As far as I can find, you are not correct unless Waymo is Tesla. From July 2021 to May 2022, Waymo reported the most crashes. Tesla reported only ONE. So whoever is saying Tesla is self reporting and therefore the only one giving crash info, you are incorrect.. many companies are supplying their crash reports, Tesla vehicle crashes have obviously just gotten worse.

And they, you know: investigate an accident to see what happened. Including if any automation was in use OR played a role in the crash. Every state has a state level highway transportation safety organization, whatever it's called, and they keep track of this data and so too does the NTSB. It's also worth noting: Tesla has played games with this reporting. Often, immediately before a crash, the automatics recognize a crash is imminent and disconnect and hand the problem to the human driver. And then Tesla reports truthfully but misleadingly: "the self driving mode was not active at the time of the crash." Doesn't change the FACT that self driving CAUSED the crash. And it's not surprising, it's the only self driving system I know of that only uses visual sensors. They removed the radar and ultrasonics and now depend exclusively on visual spectrum cameras. And there's no standard for what's required, and the consequences will mostly be borne by random bystanders. Rachel's analysis here was spot on and the motivations musk has are obvious.

This is simply not possible. No such thing as a Tesla that will drive on a road with no driver in them. The car is monitoring for an alert driver supervising the driving constantly and won’t go for more than 8 seconds roughly with you not watching the road before alerting you to take over. Your friend probably saw Waymo cars that are true driverless taxis

The cars of other companies also get involved in incidents but because they lack the systems to capture the associated data they have no data to report. Hence, from a naive data analysis perspective it appears Teslas are responsible for most incidents, when in truth this is because Tesla is providing data and the others are not. Not because they don't have incidents, but because they are too primitive to be aware they caused an incident. This is why Tesla want this requirement for data reporting to end, at least until the others are able to also report data in the same way, which currently they cannot. The current requirement appears designed to knowingly put Tesla in a bad light. I wonder if Rachel is aware of this?

Full autonomous driving isn't allowed yet in my country, but phantom braking still happens here. I've seen it happen a few times when a Tesla overtakes a truck and when they enter or exit a tunnel or when the sun is low on the horizon. I always keep some extra distance from Teslas.

I live in Phoenix, Arizona and I have almost been hit by Waymo vehicle three times myself and it is a running sarcastic joke that if you’re having to drive anywhere in downtown Phoenix or near ASU campus that it’s a game of Frogger with the Waymo self driving cars. Waymo also has daily crashes with our light rail thanks to the car stopping on the tracks in front of the light rail.

I had to Uber for a few month due to an injury and rode in several Tesla's on Uber and Lyft rides. I found them to be comfortable and felt no nausea. The seating was comfortable and easy to get in/out of.
