I usually dont even make a cross but solve the whole side. Not very efficient though.

lets just say i got H blue on top 1. side: V orange 2. side: - 1 line: yellow red yellow - 2 line: green green red - 3 line : yellow green yellow 3. side: - green unknown red - blue unknown blue - green green orange 4. side: - orange yellow green - green unknown red - white yellow white bottom: V black
