I recently purchased a Canon 90D and stumbled across your video. Your explanations are really well thought through. My only thing I would like to add for the 'Image Review' part is that by keeping it 'off' you save more battery life, probably not a lot but every bit helps. This also allows you to take the photo's quicker and continuously as you don't have to exit the preview mode every time. So if you took a few photos you can just tap the little play button right next to the delete button, and it will show the photo you recently took. Thanks for sharing your thoughts though, really enjoyed it. Greetings from Switzerland.

Sorry, but you are wrong by stating - " This also allows you to take the photo's quicker and continuously as you don't have to exit the preview mode every time." Nothing will stop you taking a picture. Even if you are in the menu, pressing the shutter will take a picture immediately. Try it and see for yourself, I have. A camera is of no use if other functions stop you taking pictures. Hope this is of use. Regards M

My experience with the R7 is that when I take a photo with the electronic shutter, a picture is taken directly on the sensor. This prevents motion blur due to the mechanism of the shutter. This gives you a pinsharp picture. Now a question about the Canon 90D. If I take a shot in "live view" with the Canon 90D, is that comparable to the shot with the electronic shutter of the R7? Doesn't the 90D also see the image via the sensor? does this also produce a pinsharp picture? Is this different than with the R7?

You will need to stop taking video, switch the Camera to Photo mode, Take some stills and then go back to video mode to film again. Here are two work-arounds. Have a second camera. Often when I am filming in the field, I will have my camera filming on a tripod to get wide establishing shots, while I am also taking stills on a second camera. The other solution is to take frame grabs from your 4K Video. They will need some touch-up work in photoshop but will be perfectly fine for use online, or even small size print use.

Did you do a deeper-dive followup with Picture Styles? Lots of folks get frustrated with bland colors and weak contrast, which are often "pre-pumped" on camera phones.

Best thing to do is shoot raw, and edit the final image according to taste in a program like Lightroom.

Yes, the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 Mark II is a better pairing for the 90D. The 27-32 megapixels are great but the 90D doesn’t like some lenses. There is a list of the best lenses for it. The EF-S are good lenses for it as the center glass is decent to excellent. The newest (L) series glass is next level on the 90D.

I like your style, you explain things nicely and it's easy to follow, if I select RAW as you suggest but I don't have Photoshop or Lightroom, how can I process the photos on my computer (windows 10) ? what would you recommend software wise, or do I have to go purchase some photo processing software ?

I have recently been looking into Adobe alternatives. I have purchased a license for Luminar AI as a replacement to Lightroom and Affinity as a replacement to Photoshop. I am also learning Davinci Resolve which so far is a solid replacement for Adobe Audition, After Effects and Premier Pro all in one program. I have already broken free from my $70/month Adobe Suite license and hope to one day break free from the Photoshop/Lightroom license. (Although that fee is easier to deal with. As to your specific question, i would check out Luminar AI. It has some amazing features that even Lightroom does not. The AI stands for "Artificial Intelligence" and it's ability to dramatically change lighting and sky backgrounds without the tedious selection work that you would have to do in Photoshop .

You could check to see if you have the latest firmware update. Some menu options will change based on what mode you are in as well as whether you are in stills or video mode.

Thanks for your question. I have done a little research and confirmed that there is no menu setting that will cause the flash to raise automatically. If I had to venture a guess as to why Canon did this on the 90D it was probably to encourage users to learn other ways to get a correct exposure in low light conditions, if at all possible. We all know that almost all shots taken with the on board flash are virtually unusable in any professional way. Canon is probably nudging photographers to rather than rely on a pop up flash, to consider learning how to use the manual settings of the camera, learn how to change the ISO, shutter speed and F Stop. Learn how to swap out to a faster lens, learn how to work with external flash unit where that head of the flash can be tilted to bounce off walls, ceilings or reflectors. A remote flash with an assistant can be very helpful! All of these solutions will give you a lot better photo than you would ever get using the pop up. Think of it this way, as you move up the ladder in cameras, Canon want's you to become better at the craft. My Canon 5D Mark IV has no built in flash. If I absolutely need a flash I am forced to go into my bag and pull out my external flash. If I have no walls or ceiling to bounce the light off, I pull out a reflector from my bag and recruit a volunteer to hold it for me to bounce off of. I will have to do a lesson on that one of these days. The results can be very good!

Stupid question maybe, I have just bought the camera, but only find the basic menu with 4 main options, cannot seem to find the menu you have and is in the canon manual.. Help?!

Make sure you put the camera into a mode other than Auto. Try P Mode, for example, and then go into the menu settings, you'll see a lot more there. Some options also only show up if the camera is set to Live View or Movie/Video mode as well.

Hie.. i got a 90D as well and i use the 250 mm kit lens .. when i zoom to the max i dont get sharp images.. idk what's wrong ..is the lens the problem or my camera settings ..m confused ..i dont get sharp images some times . Pls make a video why it happens

You can set it to (2, 4, or 8) seconds. You can also set it to "Hold" and the image will simply stay on the screen, or just set it to "Off" and you can take shot after shot without the 2 second delay if it annoys you so much.

@@SeanSeebran Sorry but you are still wrong. You dont have to turn it off to keep on taking pictures. It can be set to any setting, and you can still take pictures immediately. Again, try it and see for yourself. I have and it works just fine. All my Canon EOS cameras work this way. It is done so that you dont miss a picture of a life time. Regards M
