Been there done that decades ago. Got the idea from the jib cranes at work. Best improvement to my shop ever! Always handy, never in the way!

Very cool! I've got broken bracket on a retractable cord reel that I can't find a replacement for. I refuse to replace the entire unit for a dang bracket! Thanks for an idea.

So for the sliders I have used cheap key rings and zip tied on the cord

Dang, thats a good idea. I might go stop at the dollar store

I like your idea about using the wire rope, however I suggest that you use small rollers with the hook to hang the cord by just taping the cord to each roller. that way the cord will roll easy on the wire rope. But in order to do that you would have to put the rollers on the wire before clamping the end. Advantage is that you could just grab the end of the cord and just pull it towards the end to store the loops of cord. Just a suggestion lol. Mic works great.

I definetly would have used rollers if I had any on hand. Budget is minimal at this point, so maybe I can do that as an upgrade in the future

Use PVC pipe instead of the CPVC. The CPVC pipe degrades over a few years and becomes brittle. Even using a pipe cutter will make the CPVC pipe shatter. At work they ran water lines and a leak formed. Regular plastic pipe cutters just cracked pipe. A special CPVC pipe cutter is made for this. A small leak caused me to replace about 6 feet of pipe. Another option for slides is using small pulleys.
@squirrelsworkshop4 күн бұрын
@@elliottsmith3632 wow. I've never actually used cpvc for anything, I just happened to have this piece kicking around.

Just hang a couple of reels at each end of the shop 🤔
