This is way better than pizza: cheese and vegetables stuffed bread very special because it is very forgiving, it's simple and fun to make, you can use practically any vegetable or vegan cheese of your preference and it's ready in no time at all! So amazingly original, I promise you are going to get addicted to it!

BETTER THAN PIZZA: CHEESE AND VEGETABLES STUFFED BREAD
INGREDIENTS:
FOR THE DOUGH:
1 tablespoon of sugar
1 teaspoon of yeast (5.5 grams)
1 cup of warm unsweetened plant based milk (200 ml) - I have used soy milk
1/4 cup of olive oil (25 ml)
3 cups of all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon of salt
FOR THE FILLING:
150 grams of vegan mozzarella cheese (approx. 1 cup)
150 grams of vegan feta cheese (approx.1 cup)
Chopped red bell pepper
Chopped onions
Fresh parsley
FOR THE TOPPING:
1 tablespoon of ketchup
1 tablespoon of vegan mayo
1 tablespoon of water
METHOD:
In a bowl, add the warm milk, the sugar and oil, stir to combine, add the remainder of the ingredients for the dough, mix to combine; cover it and let it proof it in a warm place for about 30 minutes or until it has doubled in size.
Meanwhile, mix all the ingredients for the filling in a separate bowl, separate a little bit of this mixture to put it on top of the dough, reserve.
After the dough has risen, remove it from the bowl, place it in a dry and floured surface, and stretch it into a circle. Make a ball with the filling and place it in the center of the stretched dough, close the dough by joining the ends, close it tight, press the top of the dough until it forms a disc, place it in a baking sheet, with the seam facing down, brush it with the ketchup/mayo/water mixture and add the remainder of the filling on top of the dough.
Put in a preheated oven for 25 to 35 minutes at 180C (356F).
Remove from the oven, wait 5 minutes before cutting and serve it!

GuiltFreeFood: It's exactly what I was thinking. I made this (improperly alas), but the topping was so delicious I could have eaten it right out the bowl. Of course I added more than what's in this video which is probably why it didn't turn out like Jana's. 🙄

I just made this for the second time, and it came out phenomenal both times. The flavor is incredible. I roasted my peppers before adding them and also used a vegan ricotta as part of the filling. This is such an amazing recipe!

In my home country we call it vatrushka and most of the time it’s pastry with sweet dough and filling that contains quark and raisins. You can make it savoury with unsweetened dough and add green onion to the filling.

This turned out and tasted as good as it looked. Thank you for the recipe. I have been wanting to make it since I first saw it. I used mushrooms chopped up small and red cabbage and red pepper. Everything else as you did. Will definitely make it again 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

How are you so charming, Jana?! This a a veganized version of the Georgian cheese bread. I know this recipe and it works and tastes delicious. Just a tip, don't press the cheese ball too tight, you won't be able to form the round shape without the filling spilling out.

QUESTION: Can I also use water instead of milk? Does it change the consistency of the bread? (I know your grandmother used milk to boil potatoes in). Also, I'm not crazy about crunchy veggies. Do these cook well when inside the bread? Does the crust of the bread get crispy or does it stay bread-like? Thanks Janna.🌹

Oh, Linda, yes! :) you can definitely sauté the veggies before adding to the dough (wait until they are completely cool before adding to the dough) or just use the veggies you like the most! Do you like mushrooms and sweet corn? Could be nice with some fresh thyme... :) And yes, the veggies I have used remain a bit crunchy after cooked actually, cooked but still crunchy...

@@ChefJana Oh Jana, I'm ashamed to say I made this immediately after watching your video and though it tasted good, I must have done something wrong with the dough. I possibly used OLD yeast, dunno, but it was gooey and raw floury tasting even after pre-cooking the dough in the oven AND on the stove top. I'll try this again though because I want to get it right. Thanks for the tips.💞
