I've been "that guy" who was sleeping with women who were not on my level just because I could and I can assure you that you do not need to lie to them at all, they will make up all sorts of deluded ideas about what level the "relationship" is at. Some of them had very good prospective men after them, guys with a good job, his own house, etc but they were "boring and I dunno, isn't clicking". A pattern I find with women that feel like they are 'settling' for you; she will always want you to be aware that she is settling and has had (or maybe still does have) so many opportunities somewhere else. A woman that feels like she is settling for you will resent you for just existing in her space, no matter what you do to try to close that gap she perceives in her value and yours. If your woman ever says or implies that she is settling for you, get out unless you are willing to put up with a lifetime of resentment and anger at you for her own failure to get that man she really wanted. A book called the Mothers describes exactly what you are saying. It even describes that the reason for marriage was to create order in a community. If all the old men are procreating with the young women. Then the young men being disenfranchised will overthrow that society and down the line repeat their forefathers mistake. By creating order, then the community could evolve into a future empire. Currently they thought marriage was an outdated construct and have dismantled it in the last few decades. I'm not saying thats a good thing but I wanted to share it as I am also living in poverty and have thought about the things you said here quite a bit. Don't get me wrong; some people are certainly materialists, but there is definitely something more going on here especially once you take into account that many of the most desired things in life cannot be bought with money directly but must be purchased with other things ie the clout and status that comes with the wealth. They do this to gain access to the upper class and then stay in the upper class which in and of itself isn't inherently bad however the nature of this system combined with a lack of foundational virtues or disciplines have caused the system to become toxic.
