One of my favorites of off my favorite album by them. Sidewinder, MIA, Betrayed, Blinded by Chains. I remember the day I got this album on the day it came out and I must have listened all the way through it 10 times that day!!!

Yeah the chorus the first couple times I thought was cheesy. But the more I’ve heard this song over the years, I wouldn’t change it one bit. You feel his emotion he’s conveying. One of their better songs

Really it needs to become a fixture in their live sets. With the crowd singing the strength of the world/ice in my veins parts and shadows and seeing back with the is on my shoulders, is in my side etc.

matt's voice has changed over the years this song is 15years old, this is why you notice a difference to his voice. I recommend you to react to "higher" it is a song from their latest album and you will notice a big difference too

I love and hate that song vocally. The live versions are incredible, but the studio version is super duper mega nasal in the 2nd verse. Worth it. Totally worth it. No one will ever sound like M. Shadows, and that's a good thing.

@@thomasrokidis8847 He definitely goes more chesty live. 2006 and 2017 touring were definitely improvements from City of Evil and The Stage studio tracks. I wish sometimes that he brought that to those albums like he brought to Avenged Sevenfold and Nightmare and Hail to the King. The songs sounded like the records live.

@@thomasrokidis8847 Yeah, it's part of why he changed things after the short 2015 tour. It's a great thing to hear sporadically, as much as I think City of Evil songs sound better with the extra push. Higher and Sunny Disposition worked so well on tour.

I don't know if anyone has requested Sunny Disposition from The Stage album. Check that out when you can it has saxophone solos in it that really makes it one of their more compelling songs.

According to my husband, I've definitely heard that one. It apparently played on the radio where we worked alongside of Nightmare. So I'm not sure if I should do a reaction for it. I don't remember it, but once the song starts I might.

I'm glad you picked up on the 3rd chorus being more annoying. Matt really loves Mike Patton, the guy from Faith No More and Mr. Bungle and like 5 other bands, and Mike does a lot of that hypernasal compression intentionally. The point is to be extremely polarizing and shove that uniqueness to the forefront, I suppose. The chorus was my least favorite on the album during my first listen, but the instrumentation was incredible. Looking back the last few years to when it was fresh to me in 2006 that first time I heard it, I do like that the chorus has a punk rock counterpoint to that avant-garde, Broadway on drugs vocal style. Some songs take longer to grow on people, but I think this one grows stronger than the rest when it finally connects. I think it's one of the most adventurous A7X songs, and I especially love how Syn played that electrified Spanish guitar solo in the middle. So tasteful. When that second solo hits, it's like a cinematic punch in the face. That's definitely one of my favorite solos. The song is about a vaquero whose family was murdered by bandidos. He hunts them down and kills them, but revenge isn't enough for him and he lives the rest of his life feeling hollow. It's a great lesson and a great story and this song is beautiful. I'm looking forward to the Blinded in Chains and Bat Country reactions. City of Evil really is an album of constant energy and transitions, and it's great getting extremes in them. I'm glad they're getting really fun for you. 😄

One issue I had with the City of Evil (2005) album was the whiny vocals. Great songs but I really prefer Matt's vocals from 2007-2013 (Self titled, Nightmare and Hail to the King). I'd say try listening to *Coming Home* or *Requiem*, they're really fast paced tracks from Hail to The King (2013). Or if you want something slower and more country based, try Dear God from their Self Titles album (2007)

Those are on the list! Hail to the King and Nightmare style are definitely closer to my preference, but all of their stuff is amazing in different ways. God Hates Us is next. :D
