I've heard an old phrase "you suffer because you desire." I've spent years trying to desire less. It's difficult in the beginning because it feels like you're quitting on yourself. The truth is you haven't grown spiritually enough to attract said things.

Desiring less is a desire. People often miss the point of what detachment is. It's not about desiring less it's about not allowing the desire to consume your every thought. Desire is something we will always have it's not the root of suffering. Obsessing is the root of suffering. When you stop chasing it will come to you. Because chasing after something places you in resistance it's a belief that the only way to have it is to struggle for it. Follow the path of least resistance and life will follow you.

Since my divorce 12 years ago, I have desperately craved financial security and a home of my own. The more i have fixated this, the further away it's become. I have had cancer, recently lost my job and am now facing eviction. This video has really helped me. I have heard so many say "let go" and I finally understand how to do that and just trust in life, see what the Universe puts in my path and stop over-thinking everything. Losing everything but feeling at peace.

Attachment is a holding onto, chasing, craving. Detachment is rejection, aversion, indifference True freedom is non attachment. Non attachment is allowing, acceptance, it’s I don’t mind instead of I don’t care not rejecting but also not holding on. It’s a state of surrender to what is. 🙏🏽♥️

@@brandeepalmer3514there’s a difference between love and attachment. Love is what you feel and give without expecting anything in return. Love is free. Attachment is expecting a certain outcome and/or controlling a situation or person to meet those expectations. When those expectations or outcomes are not met, we feel pain, fear, grief, etc. You can love your son without attachment. It’s more than likely that loving your son without the attachments is what he’s searching for anyways. But ultimately, people, even our children or partners, are allowed to have their own experiences. We have absolutely no control. And the more we try to control, the more we push away that which we love most❤ There is a big gap between hearing and knowing this, and actually internalizing, and embodying it, and actually letting go.

It's to understand that none of us ever get to "have" anything. You don't get to "own" anything. What you want is to perceive it and be able to perceive it forever. Which you can't do if you're carrying it on your back. And you can't move forward at your own pace if you're focused on looking at it and carrying it. So let it go and it will dance alongside you. Sometimes ahead, next to, or behind. But the one guarantee is that if you keep holding it so tight, you're going to break it.

I’m working on my last year of masters of social work and my anxiety has been spiking. Listening to this made me see how I’m so focused on the end result (getting a degree ) rather than honing my skills as a clinician to grow in my career. It was such a gentle reminder of my worth as a person regardless of my degree and the worth of those that I work with. It’s such a privilege to serve others and I think I was forgetting that.

Thank you for sharing such a profound reflection on your journey. Your insight about focusing on personal and professional growth rather than just the end goal is incredibly valuable. It's wonderful to see you reconnecting with the deeper purpose of your work - serving others. Your ability to pause and reflect like this speaks volumes about your potential as a clinician. Remember, your worth isn't defined by your degree, but by your compassion and dedication to helping others. We're honored that this video resonated with you during this challenging time. Anxiety can be tough, especially during such an important phase of your education. Please be kind to yourself as you navigate this path.

I went through extreme forms of abuse, torture. I had to rely on myself internally from getting out of this. This is what my intuition has known and relied on from my own self. You can figure this out on your is if you truly are desiring becoming a better version of yourself. Doing this is the only way of reaching the highest version of you, For many it seems harder than the end, but it’s 10x harder to do, but the outcome is 100x better and worth it than the journey of obstacles it takes to get to that point. Don’t let that stop you. I hope this helps other people see their own internal selves, and let go anything. This can include, attachments to identity. That’s one of the biggest attachments anyone can have. Being attached to your identity to the point it’s holding you back. Show yourself love. Understand you can receive your full potential. And release.

Dear Better Life, nice video and this is something I absolutely want to master because when we attach, we limit our ability to live in the present moment. I believe we need to respect and trust in the universe and detachment is a great way to do that. I'm also a big believer in the journey versus the destination. Attachment is the destination and too often we focus too much on the destination. Surrendering to the present moment is so powerful!

Thank you for your kind words and for sharing such a beautiful perspective! You’ve touched on such an important truth: the power of living in the present moment and trusting the universe. Detachment is indeed a practice that allows us to align with the flow of life rather than resisting it. The love of my life decided to leave me, I really love her so much I can’t stop thinking about her, I’ve tried my very best to get her back in my life, but to no avail, I’m frustrated, I don’t see my life with anyone else. I’ve done my best to get rid of the thoughts of her, but I can’t, I don’t know why I’m saying this here, I really miss her and just can’t stop thinking about her

i have been in such a situation. i love my woman and unfortunately we separated about two years ago, but i could not let her go, so i had to do all i could to get her back, i had to seek the help of a spiritual adviser who helped me bring her back, now we are back together, and i must say i am enjoying every moment.

While I don't buy and cannot reconcile the idea that you can just selectively detach from outcomes and otherwise still feel a deep sense of caring and connection with things in life, I do think it's vital that we avoid attachments anyway... to as many things, people, etc. as we can. Detaching is worth losing any of the positives associated with feeling attached to this world, to your ambitions, desires, wants, etc. It's inevitable that you'll be attached to things like family, if you grew up with parents around for example. You didn't know any better growing up. But attachment is never worth it, because it's inevitable that the majority of the time, the outcomes you desire will not come to pass. Do not add to the few inevitable attachments in life by bringing in other attachments that are not necessary. I am currently learning to let go of certain lifelong attachments that are not resulting in the outcomes I desperately desired and efforted towards. I value myself too much to be a beggar to that which is not completely in my own control. One sign that you are successfully detaching is that you are no longer praying/hoping/wishing for things. You realize that if you have to do such things, they are typically unlikely to happen. You realize it is best to focus on what you can control, and do so without caring enough to be attached.

We’d like to invite you to a deeper consideration of the perspective you’ve shared. A few questions - 1. You mention avoiding attachments to as many things as possible. But doesn't this risk missing out on the richness of life experiences? How might we engage deeply with life while still maintaining inner peace? 2. You suggest detachment is worth losing positive feelings associated with attachment. But what if there's a way to experience those positives without the suffering of attachment? How might we cultivate joy and connection without clinging? 3. You state that attachment is never worth it because desired outcomes often don't materialize. But isn't personal growth often born from how we handle disappointment? How could we reframe our relationship with outcomes to focus on the journey rather than the destination? 4. You mention no longer praying/hoping/wishing for things as a sign of detachment. But couldn't these activities, when done without expectation, be forms of positive intention setting? How might we maintain aspirations without becoming attached to specific outcomes? 5. You suggest focusing only on what you can control. While this is wise, couldn't we also find value in how we respond to things outside our control? How might we cultivate resilience and adaptability in the face of uncertainty?

Everything is temporary in this life, it is fleeting and will come and go, jobs, family, friends and worldly possessions. You can still love people, and careers and activities and things, and yet still be detached. It is a pure form of love, there is no ownership and it is aligned with the inevitable loss of said people and things. Living in the moment fully and appreciating these gifts that we get for a moment. When they are gone you will already have known the nature of all things was temporary to begin with and there was nothing to be done. When it is your time to pass you can also be detached from this physical world and effortlessly without anxiety pass to the end of this existence. This is freedom from desire of outcome, you can still do your daily tasks and work towards goals, but what will happen will happen. You simply are, it’s a stoic way of existing and it is hard to do, because we are wired and conditioned by our emotions to stay attached and react to undesired outcomes. When you can really get outside of this default state and mindset, you really become at peace with it all. You lost your job? Your girlfriend left you? Your friend passed away? You loved all of those the same before they were gone, and you can love them the same afterwards, and not be affected to such a negative degree, because you loved but were not attached. This doesn’t mean you didn’t care, or are a sociopath or something like that, you simply understand the true nature of life and are at peace and at one with it. Life is chaos and all things will change, nothing stays the same, so you just ride the wave and go with it, being the best you that you can be.

Well that was interesting...I just watched a video before this one on synchronicity and have recently been getting back into Ram Dass lectures as well as out of "nowhere" studying the Bhagavad Gita. This video has been sitting in my watch later for who knows how long and I just happened to watch it now while also immersing myself in a flow state while making art which is something I have been struggling to reconnect with and trust in giving my time to. I had been thinking about making art as a ritual act and offering and here you mention it. Ah the timing. And in addition I have to admit that even though I have read a lot about these concepts I have always been a bit skeptical and unwilling to put any effort into it while all the while I have definitely complained and not gotten anywhere. What does it all mean? I don't know yet and that's OKAY. But clearly I am getting a message, maybe now is the time to listen to it FINALLY. Namaste.

Yes! It’s perfectly OKAY to not have all the answers - that acceptance is actually part of the journey! The fact that you're seeing these connections now suggests you're entering a powerful phase of spiritual expansion. Keep flowing with your art and letting it become your meditation. Watching your consciousness unfold is truly beautiful. Namaste ✨

You make an interesting point about success and desire. It reminds me of a garden - sometimes the flowers we carefully plan and tend grow beautifully, while other times the most stunning blooms appear unexpectedly in places we never planted them. I'm curious what experiences have shaped your perspective on this? And have you found that different types of success feel different to you when you look back on them?

If one can be selfish, detachment is not a problem. In attachment, one at least thinks about his family. In detachment, he thinks about none but himself and his detachment from the cycle of life. Have you ever seen a detached person free other people along with him from the cycle of life? Any person who starts is path towards Spirituality, detaches himself from the material world. For who's good? It is for his personal needs to detach from the cycle of life. It is for his personal need to be part of the celestial beings. Moksha is singular. If teachings can lead the pathway to moksha, why help people with disabilities and ailments? Why help the poor? Why help anyone? Just give them instructions on what has to be done and leave their helplessness to themselves. Attachment in detachment is the key.

I realize a daily struggle I encounter is the "romantic" situation. I see myself constantly thinking about talking to girls though I just seem to lack the confidence. When in a group or with other friends, I have confidence and am capable of talking and joking around very well. Though when alone and want to approach a woman on the street or outside, I can't seem to be able to do it. Mainly because I feel like I am being too pushy, or I don't have a logical reason to annoy that person; so by not doing anything, I kind of "protect" myself from such situations. But I always seem to feel bad and feel void for not doing anything. This made me more "attached" to my previous relationship, mainly because it was a relationship, nothing more, but u still want to fill that void

One of Western civilisation’s most significant events is the Age of Enlightenment in the 18thcentury, a period which undermined the values that society had hitherto relied on, namely, on the religious view. This engenders the most profound cultural, sociological and psychological repercussions, leaving many facing a crisis in discerning a meaning or purpose for their existence and struggling to tackle the problems in living that this gives rise to. While we previously had ready answers to the problem of how life ought to be lived and what its overall meaning and purpose was (since faith in the existence of God gave us the reassurance that we are partaking in a divine project) we are now slowly experiencing the consequences of what Nietzsche proclaimed as the death of God, whose full consequences would elude many people as he made clear: “This tremendous event is still on its way, still wandering; it has not yet reached the ears of men… This deed is still more distant from them than the most distant stars - and yet they have done it themselves.”

career decisions are often made by others. I spent so long trying to meet others' expectations, struggling to thrive in a field I knew little about. I kept complaining all this time but eventually realized that complaining wouldn't change anything and from now on, whether I succeed in this new field or just cry about my lost potential in some other field depends entirely on me. this isn’t just about career choice, many of us let others make decisions for us and complain when they turn out to be bad. Learning to accept things as they are and moving forward is a life skill everyone must develop
@betterliffe
@betterliffe 27 күн бұрын
@martinsantiago7900 Your journey touches on something so profound - the shift from external validation to inner authority. What's especially powerful is how you've recognized that complaining was actually keeping you tied to those old patterns. This is real spiritual alchemy - transforming frustration into wisdom and victimhood into personal power. When you say "Learning to accept things as they are and moving forward is a life skill everyone must develop" - this resonates deeply with ancient spiritual teachings about acceptance and non-resistance. It's not about passive resignation, but about finding the power that comes when we stop fighting what was and start creating what could be. The way you've connected your personal career experience to a universal truth about how we all sometimes give away our power - that's the kind of insight that can help others wake up to their own patterns of external dependence. Have you noticed other areas of your life where this newfound wisdom about acceptance and personal responsibility has started creating positive changes? Sometimes when we have these breakthrough realizations in one area, the ripples of transformation spread far wider than we initially expect. 🌟

When we let go of our own ego-driven desires or expectations for how we think someone should be, we open ourselves to loving them more fully as they are. This "detachment" you mention could be seen as a form of spiritual freedom - freedom from the need to control outcomes or change others. In the journey of personal and spiritual growth, learning to balance compassion with healthy boundaries is key. It allows us to care deeply while also respecting each person's individual path. Thank you for prompting this reflection. Your insight aligns beautifully with the idea that letting go - of expectations, of the need to fix or change others - can paradoxically bring us closer to our deepest desires for connection and understanding. Has this been your experience in your own relationships?

I failed miserably in my past never understanding the importance detachment is to one’s overall wellbeing. I attached myself to everyone and everything and failed consistently all because of NEED from childhood. Only now “ at 69” am I grasping its full meaning.
