The 885 ist almost the same as the 785. Still no USB-C ports, same specs plus cosmetic changes. However the 785 is already a great device, so there was not much to improve except the USB ports which they left with stone age A and B ports.

I was wandering the same. Doesn’t seem like an upgrade in the same way the 785 was from its 600 series predecessor 🤔

Yes, I was looking at the specs, wondering what was different. Only things I noticed were: 885 is 6 pounds heavier, has 1 extra reverb mode, different amplifier specs (50 W + 50 W + 50 W) x 2 for the 785 and (45 W + 30 W + 40 W) × 2 for the 885, and 2 additional demo songs on the 885. I'm mildly relieved, as I just bought my 785 a few months ago. I got tired of waiting for the new models to be announced, and also found a good deal on a lightly used 785.

@@andicus1 you won’t be disappointed I would d left. Had mine 3 years and it’s a great instrument. Sound/speaker wise doubt it’s noticeable. If it was a true upgrade then the action would be comparable to the difference between the 685 and 785 was. It’s a great action as it is on 785. I believe the 885 has upgraded sensors and chip, but this would be expected 3 years on

@@andrewdolphin344 Yes, I am loving my 785. I expect that when the 885 price is released, it will be approaching double what I paid for my 785, when considering taxes.

I've noticed other changes in the USB panel... There are no longer MIDI In/Out/Thru jacks (which may disappoint some people), and the headphone jacks are now on that panel. The AUX out jacks are moved. I'm not sure where they were moved to, but I suspect the previous location of the headphone jacks.

From the Yamaha website, the upgrade from 785 includes new speakers and physical sound design, one more reverb, usb updates, a few more samples/voices, and new physical design, but all the rest seems the be the same: *is it the same ?* (785 had already 3 sensors per key, etc)

not the same bcs, new Soundchip, new Platine, new Processor,new soundsystem, new Pedal sensors, new Keys Sensors

Nice review! Decent upgrade! But now days many companies are providing Bechstien & Steinway sounds. Yamaha should give important to these sounds.

The 785 was a brilliant piano. How I wanted one! I fear that the 885 pushes the price yet further from my reach, and without any significant improvements.

Sound from the speakers is probably where most of the the effort went. From past experience it's worth paying extra for this.

901 has soundboard technology and way better interface, design and powerful sound. Never mind the action is way faster and more responsive.

What do you think about Casio gp 510/310 action?

@@Pablo.Albino I have the Casio GP-400. Bought it on release almost 10 years ago. The action including the pedals was the best out of all the Yamaha, Kawai, Roland models at the time. It was a new action at the time and It has been refined since then. The 510 would be very good, and up there with the rest of them. I have had no issues with mine at all and its had students pounding away at it too. I do recommend getting the higher model as the speakers are much better. It is important. Save up for the higher model if you cannot afford it at the moment.
