The problem described in this video is caused by wrong life’s target selection by each individuals who faced it. Many persons affected by social culture and influenced by the society itself. Another strategy I've heard and that has helped me before, is to tell yourself you're going to do less than you really want to do. So like, if you want to go to the gym, instead of telling yourself you're going to go to the gym, which requires a lot of activation energy, you tell yourself you're just going to put your shoes on. And then once you put your shoes on, you tell yourself you're just going to grab your keys. And so on and so forth, until, next thing you know, you're working out at the gym.

There’s only one way to do things: DO NOT THINK. You wanna do something? Get up and start doing it, do not consider doing it later or how much time would it take. Just start doing it. If you try thinking about details, if you end up thinking about the amount of effort it’s gonna take, you’re not gonna do it. The moment you start to worry and in your head “ifs” and “buts” appear, you’re done.

Summary: - Starting any activity requires an initial effort to start doing it. - Increase the effort (for 20 seconds) to start that activity you want to avoid, for example put the control of the TV in another room to avoid watching it. - Decrease the effort to start that activities that benefit you, like going to gym, you could sleep with the gym clothes on, then when you get up in the morning you are ready to go.

I think all of us naturally struggle with laziness and procrastination. What works best for me is to force myself to get up and do something. It could be as simple as brushing my teeth or taking out the trash. Whenever I complete a bunch of small tasks, I find that building up positive momentum can make a huge difference with overcoming laziness.
@BetterThanYesterday4 жыл бұрын
Indeed. Never underestimate the power of momentum!
@justsayin50484 жыл бұрын
Yes! Momentum is how I get things done. For example, if I clean my room, I take the initiative to also clean the bathroom, then the kitchen, and next thing you know the whole house is clean. Taking small steps will still get you to your destination. Now cleaning my house is something I consider a small step to ending my laziness, even though before it used to take lots of willpower and motivation.

I have another 20s rule that works against laziness : counting 20 secondes to let yourself fully enjoy the unproductive but comfortable activity you're doing knowing that at 20, you must stop, get up and start doing the thing you need to do. That way you don't feel like you really stopped doing the comfortable thing because your brain knew that it was gonna end in exactly 20 seconds so it enjoyed it even more, but you're also able to move on to the productive activity.

This works for me. I actually wanted to read 30 mins per day. But then, I was already tired of reading and the time hadn't finished. It was no fun anymore. So, I changed my duration of reading to become 20 mins. And I finish my reading before I get tired and it becomes rewarding. In addition, if I feel like to continue, I will add a good ten mins. So I get 30 mins reading each day. To limit restriction or 5o make it easy, I apply it to my workout. I don't want to exercise outside as I have to put more clothes (I am a Moslem where I have to be fully covered if seen in public). And I hate the idea of having more laundry after that. So, I choose working at my own room and wear my comfortable workout clothes. I have a set of KZbin vids for my workout. When I am lazy doing exercise, I will get up and do just determine to get done only the warm up part. But then, I always find myself doing at least 2-3 vids on my hard unmotivated days 😂😂😂

Related to the phone, I found that charging my phone next to my bed is a convenient distraction. I moved it across the room away from my bed or you can charge it in another room. You're less likely to stay in bed on your phone, which was a bad habit of mine. If you need it next to you some reason, make sure to move it at times you don't. It's an extra step that pays off. I also moved my playstore app to a place less convenient to access. I found that even after deleting the apps I still would just redownload it when checking my social media. I only do this once week now thanks to moving it off my home screen.

This is a really helpful video. I used something similar to this strategy to introduce new things to my birds, but never used it for myself. It is very true that almost every single time, it's the 1-3 small, short things I have to do before an activity that deter me. When I want my birds to do something new (ex. go inside a new carrier), I make it as easy as humanly possible for them to do it. I use boxes to line the opening up directly with the cage top. All they have to do is take one step and they're in. I place treats right on the cusp of the opening, with a few more right inside, so all they have to do is take one step to get the treat. I use familiar items in and around the carrier so they see things they recognize. Even asking them to jump over a short gap to the opening is a barrier against use. Asking them to step down into the carrier is a barrier. Placing treats too far in is a barrier. Placing the carrier anywhere but their favourite spot to hang out is a barrier. Looks like I should be using some of my bird training methods on myself!

As a person with adult-diagnosed ADHD, this is the perfect description of something I've learned over the years. My coffee in the morning is one thing that will make or break my day. If I have too many things in my way that I need to overcome in order to drink my coffee right when I get up, it's very difficult to come back from that bad start. But when I put everything necessary to make the coffee in the same spot next to the coffee pot, it naturally improves my success rate and my day starts much better.

you procrastinate in order to supress yourself of negative emotions upcoming from the tasks, so next time just face the negative emotion with you and still do things away. feeling bad for procrastinating is still worse than feeling stressed while doing the task, in the beginning negative emotions are only supposed to be supresses not dwelled in with, you can actually still do tasks even when your mood is foul, like ur mad but ur moving ur arms, ur stressed but you're walking your feet. the big reason behind procrastination is hassle and bad feelings, but procrastination itself gives you more longing bad feeling more. plus you can finsih stuff wether your happy or sad or mad, realising this cured my bad habit totally. i am pretty productive today and idc if i don't feel good about doing things right away as long as im moving - - i mean in the beginning, currently doing things to finish them makes me feel better right away. imagine if i still procrastinated i mightve been still stressed if that's the case, unlike when i already start doing the stuff, i would only feel the stress when starting it but enjoy during and after the task PLEASE i hope that made sense and i hope that's an eye openee, do not worry about your eneegy levels because they can be replenished (don't push below 10% tho) and another thing is that energy levels are like muscles, the more you work them out and make use of them then replenish them the more your energy levels expands, making you less and even more less to go back to habit of procrastination

Set all your applications that you usually use to automatically load up when you turn on your computer, that way all you need to do is turn your computer on and do something else for 30 minutes that you were going to do anyway like have a shower/get dressed or eat breakfast etc. If that's done right, by the time you sit at your computer it will be all set up with everything you need just a click away.

Open task manager, go to "startup". Sort by startup impact and disable the stuff that you don't use often or don't always need. It reduces load times. Also, upgrading to an SSD makes a HUGE difference, I don't see how you can survive without one.

Yeah exactly, that's the big problem, I feel like I have a fear to start studying, and I'm trying to fight this fear but it's hard😢
@Christina.N.4 жыл бұрын
@@bekind9046 likely you have a fear of failure. But the irony is you will guarantee fail your exams if you don't study. Yes you will hit walls when you are trying to learn something. I genuinely recommend meditation to be able to focus on studying and having more strength to not get distracted. At the end of the day you don't want to waste this short life you have, just being lazy. You still need balance though, you are supposed to be happy!

I do this with my alarm clock. To fix the "hitting snooze until I oversleep" issue, I bought an actual alarm clock and set it up on my highest shelf across the room. Now, whenever I need to get up early, I'm forced to actually get up and reach up to turn off the alarm or else an irritating sound will play. Works every time to get me up
@PyroTigerStripe2 жыл бұрын
I did this similarly, but my phone was still my alarm clock. I had to put it a couple steps away from the bed because I have a bad habit of sleep-snoozing. Now I just sleep through it for a few minutes because I'm a heavy sleeper 🥲

This is a good trick! I do similar things: Drink a few glasses of water before going to bed (just the right amount that I don't have to go pee at night but when I wake up I really have to go on the toilet. After that, my energy is just enough to go into kitchen and drink coffee :D Another tip I can share: on the way to your alarm cock (which is on the other side of the room so you have to leave your bed), turn on the lights but REALLY bright (or stand right in front of the light source with your face). There are cells in our eyes that are are responsable to control our sleep rhythm. With light, they make us go from sleep mode do waking up mode. I hope these tipps help someone! :)

Everyone I know, including me, crawls back into bed, no matter where the alarm clock is. It helps me a little more to set my home’s clocks to appear a few minutes later, therefore I have more time to work with in reality.

This is great! I want to learn a new language, so what I did is I already logged into my language program and had the lesson loaded and ready to go, whereas my games were turned off and logged out. So I'd have to turn them on, and also log in with a username/password which takes time.

Back when I was in high school a lecturer came to talk to us. I don’t remember much except for the fact that his exam invigilator had an asthma attack and died in front of the class, and that most importantly: “If you’re truly lazy you’d just get it over with so that you could do what you want afterwards”. It really stuck with me. I’m in uni now and I still apply it. Do it and get it done so that I won’t have to sleep with a growing to-do list

I use laziness and stinginess to cut myself off from time- and money-consuming activities, both “good” and “bad”. I don’t send Christmas card (or even electronic ones), though will send emails around the holidays - and, in fact, expanded the number of people I send such greetings to. I’ve stopped putting Christmas ornaments outside of the house. I do not wrap gifts, preferring gift bags. Unfortunately, Dad’s been using Amazon to send gifts to his friends, and that’s been a headache that reminds me that I don’t want gifts from others and don’t want my friends doing the same for me. Thanks for the video!

This is one of the concepts of Tiny Habits. Tiny Habits is a bit more theoretical where this video is chock full of relatable examples. The guitar example is exactly what I did. I knew putting a guitar in a case would be a barrier so I got a stand. It made all the difference.
