Interesting. It seems she started with a genuine faith and a blessing on her life. At some point all the influences of celebrity took a toll on her spiritual life but eventually she found her way back, minus the youthful innocence. Fame is no insulator from pain.

Betty hit the nail on the head when she said "I was married to my career". There should be a law in Hollywood forbidding actors to have children. Marlon Brando comes to mind, among about 100,000 others.

Other than the whole religious thing, I loved her songs and we shared the same birthday, which was cool.

Unfortunately, all of her children became estranged from her. Betty and her kids had a reunion 3 years after this interview on good morning America, but they later became estranged again and they never reconciled to the point where they even didn’t go to her funeral.

Betty Hutton was the sister of "song bird", Marion Hutton, who was a vocalist with Glenn Miller & His Orchestra. Marion & Betty Hutton were of no relation to sisters, Ina Ray & June Hutton.

Was there anybody Mike Douglas didn't have on his shows? This is great. She never mentions her sister Marion who struggled growing up with her,and performed with her .

How I wish I could have met Betty Hutton. I love her testimony! She went thru hell but came out of it into Heaven. So when she died, Jesus took her home! I want to sing with her in Heaven. Bob.

As much as I loved her in all her movies, it's quite obvious watching this vid, she was just at the point of turning psycho, from which she never fully recovered until the day she died. God rest her soul, at least she's happy now, I HOPE!

I think she was always manic/unstable. Today she could probably be treated for whatever the actual mental disorder was. Huge talent, but one who could not cope with her life off screen. Like you, I hope she has found peace now.

Here she is in the Hollywood Hills. The following year she was humiliating herself at a Jai Lai arena on Donahue. What the hell happened?

I saw her on Donahue. What do you mean humiliated herself?

Isn't it strange how so many main stream media outfits touted (with glee) that she "lost her voice" in 1970. In seconds during this interview, you can see how wrong they were.

What the hell does "Despite her age" mean? 56 is far from old...good lord what are you a 12 year old?

What I don't understand Betty was on the Mike Douglass show in 1977.then in 1978 she was on the Phil donuhue show.in less than one year she didn't look like herself at all to me.i guess she didn't age well .when she was in her prime she really was a cute girl.

Why was she hurting so bad? We all have terrible things in our lives. I think coping is an art and some people are not good at it. Some pretend to cope, some actually do. But when you start drinking, taking pills, etc., your coping mechanism is shot. Strength is inherited..I believe that. Some are strong and some are weak. You can't learn that. It has to be there at birth.
@tuvynaw85566 жыл бұрын
disagree ...we all have our strengths and weaknesses...u would have to be a performer to understand even a little of what she'd gone through. Try it.
@dahliafully6 жыл бұрын
Yes tuvy naw, there is no one is who always strong and always weak. that is a mythology and an allusion perpetuated to sell stuff claiming to alleviate our insecurities only to make them worse. we only have each other and should support each other's weaknesses as well as strengths in whatever manner we can. coping is rarely if ever a solitary affair. it's when we realize that we are not alone that we can find our internal strength and let that flow to others as well. we do all have terrible things in our lives and coping is an art and some people are not good at it until they get the support they need. often it's all about what we value as "strength" and to honor vulnerability and apply empathy. when people can do that towards themselves and to others then we get a powerful sense of the love of life.

For all of her talent, Betty was really insecure. In many interviews she would belittle her singing and acting, for example. She also had a real problem with the studios as the years went on. The final straw was her trying to push one of her husbands on the studio as a director.
