I worked two full winters on the hard doing projects 10-12 hours a day 6-7 days a week so I understand what Lou is going through at the boat. Same boat, many of the same things.I often got frustrated at how slow progress was and how much effort had to be put into getting the refit done. But looking back at it after living full time on the boat for three years I realize I have never been so productive since then. All that moving stuff around to get at things becomes a hundred times more difficult when the boat is loaded up with gear, groceries and supplies -along with all of our clothing and personal items. Doing even the most basic everyday maintenance and upkeep is a real chore now. Anything major is nearly impossible when you are living aboard. Get as much stuff done now before you leave. After three years I have still not gotten all the things I couldn't quite get to before we left checked off the ongoing to-do list.
@WildWeRoam3 жыл бұрын
Wow, 10-12 hours 6-7 days a week is a phenomenal job, you can be so proud of yourself for that!! And wow, thank you so much for writing this, it is really motivating and nice to read this--anytime we start wishing we were out on the water already, we also try to remind ourselves how valuable this time on the hard is now and to get as much done as possible. Thanks for the wise words and motivation!!! 🤗 ❤️
@svbarryduckworth6283 жыл бұрын
This winter on the hard was a really good decision in my opinion. Until you haul out someday in the future and get someplace to live off of the boat you will not have another opportunity like this to really get major projects done easily. I really like your workbench on the arch. You might be able to do something similar in a marina or even on the hook in a protected anchorage. I have done a lot of small woodworking projects in the cockpit and it makes an unholy mess there and inevitably sawdust gets dragged inside no matter how much one vacuums it up occasionally. I hope you have an inverter big enough to run a small shop vac or a battery-powered mini vac. A dustpan and brush doesn't work very well. We have a tiny Shop Vac and it really cleans up, even the hair from the boat cat and my wife's long hair. Another thing to watch out for is cutting any stainless steel. The swarth or tiny metal shavings of stainless steel will actually rust a little because it was cut with tool steel. Tiny little rust spots all over the cockpit sole and the deck and cabintop are a real pain to clean. The old gelcoat is porous and the little rust dot stains take quite a bit of scrubbing with barkeeper's friend or other oxalic acid based cleaners. I have learned to clean up any swarth as best I can after every cut or it gets away from me -not to mention getting metal slivers in bare feet or embedded in deck shoes and dragged around everywhere.

Lou, know what you mean about finding a place for things while working on projects. We just got back in the water after 12 days on the hard, replacing thru-hulls, hoses, revamping the battery system, bottom painting, changing out one of our heads and prepping our forward hanging locker to become our "laundry room". We are heading north on Friday to spend life off-grid until the end of October and then wintering up at a lovely marina until the end of Feb and then back to the peace and quiet of the bays. Good luck with Penelope! She's beautiful.

I remember back in the late 70's when my wife and I were first married and she would greet me like you greeted him when he came home. But as the years rolled on and life got ugly she didn't greet me no more if she was home when I'd drag myself home after working 12 to 16hrs trying to make ends meet. Now I'm like the old couch taking up room would like to throw it out but it has to many memories attached to it... LOL... She was just 18 when I put a ring on her finger she thought it was great marring an older man and I figured I was overly blessed to marry a younger lady... Now I've been retired for 12 years and she has 3 more years before she can retire. I tell her every time she strops b y that I love her and she sometimes lets me know that she heard me. She has to live with her mother now because her mother can't live alone no more and nether can I so my daughter moved in to be with me just in case I'd fall or forget my meds or to eat. The old brain got messed up dew to a bad motorcycle wreck 9yrs ago. And I'm sorry I do seem to ramble on sometimes...LOL... Well we've been married for 44yrs. this year, not all have been easy years some have been mighty ugly but we stood firm on God's word that HE would make ALL thing work out for our good many times it was hard and had to remind each other that God was work it all out we just had to hold each other up in prayer and pray with and for each other. God was always true to HIS word. God turned all the ugly weeds that had tried to split us apart and choke us out and kill us and turned them into thorn less roses every time. We learned that showing love to each other was just as important if not more important that just saying it. I like to way you two show that you love each other not just in word but in deed. When your apart doing your work your doing it with each other in mind knowing that what you do will please the other. These are the little things I pick up on as I watch your videos. You both are working toward one common goal and that is to be sailing together happy in love, and in the true meaning of real love as putting each other first and it shows.... Well I've rambled on long enough so much more I could say but I think I got my point across, I hope... One more thing as I was typing this my wife stop by on her way to the airport to pick up her sister. She stopped just to get a kiss and give me a hug... I'm so blessed in spite of so many ugly things going on... Much love and prayers you kids be blessed beyond your dream in Jesus name... BBE..

Yet your roles have shaken down to extremely old fashioned very traditional 1950's roles. Lou goes out every day to a manual labour job works hard. Dana stays at home cooks cleans does arts and crafts and has a meal and a drink waiting for him when he gets home. Nothing wrong with it I am not criticising or even suggesting you change your roles I just find the dichotomy interesting.

Hi Glenn! Yes absolutely, it's nice to be free to switch things up in terms of who does what 🤗! In this video, and this month, indeed, the split of our work is more old-school, but then the month before this, Lou spent hours every evening making beautiful jewellery, and when we are actually on the boat, I am the captain, etc etc. There's other videos where we've gotten odd comments about not being masculine or feminine enough, but we don't listen to that--instead, we try to take each chapter of our life as it comes, and see who of us wants to do what and who is best able to get this or that job done, and go from there, rather than feeling forced to play a particular role in life 🤗 as long as the job gets done, the love and equal respect is there, that's what matters ❤️

Is this really the first time you have come across visual content or another form of media or art that you didn’t like? Not every piece of art is made for every person-and that’s good, that would make for a boring as hell world! To answer your question-this vlog has that many subscribers because their way of life resonates with all those people. If it doesn’t resonate with you-that is totally ok, dude. There are 500 hours of video uploaded to KZbin every hour-surely something else here will tickle your fancy! Try finding that rather than spending your energy here being a bully to both fans of these creators and to these creators themselves. What are you trying to achieve, other than just to be mean? What do you get out of being mean? When instead you can save yourself the high cortisol levels and just find content that makes you smile, instead! I mean that genuinely, not sarcastically at all. I wish you happiness, good luck 🦋💜
