@unclejuniorsoprano in theory...if socialized medicine goes into effect in the USA it is not too extreme to think that the govt might deny care or raise premiums on fat people, smokers, tobacco chewers, people with dangerous professions etc. After all if they are footing the bill they could argue that they have the right to require (demand) that people comply in order to keep costs down

@fasteddie847 honestly....I don't think smoking is any more dangerous than riding a motorcycle or joining the military
@MrBobsmith34 Жыл бұрын
Smoking is far more danagerous than joining the military, unless you do so during a major war. According to the CDC there are about 480000 deaths from smoking a year. in 2022 out of 1.3 million military only 844 died on active duty- from accidents, illness etc. in the worst modern year for combat deaths 2007 847 US serviceman died in combat and just 2000 overall on active duty (including accidents etc). Obviously different if you joined in 1942 or something. Overall, joining military is probably good for health- make you take exercise etc
@MrBobsmith34 Жыл бұрын
@@inkey2 Of course volume matters but last year 0.0006% of US military died in active service. Not many soldiers died in Iraqi or Afghanistan. Post Vietnam the risk involved in joining military is almost zero. Even moderate smoking will increase morality risk by more than 0.0006%. So you cannot compare the risks of the two.
@MrBobsmith34 Жыл бұрын

@inkey2 What a logical reply....NOT. It's no theory, it's proven fact. Your father's life would have been cut shorter if he'd been a smoker, and your aunt would have lived longer if she hadn't. Don't "blow smoke" in your effort to cloud the issue. Smoking kills and you're blindly supporting something everyone in their right mind knows not to do.
@inkey214 жыл бұрын
@fasteddie847 all the people I knew that were almost killed on a motorcycle was caused entirely by drivers of cars not obeying the rules of the road. The problem is.... on a bike there is zero protection, the visual footprint is small and your first accident can be your last. I knew a co-worker in the auto parts business that was seriously injured. When the police asked the driver of the car (that hit him) why she did not stop she replied "because it was only a motorcycle"

The real issue with smoking isn’t as much the smoking itself, it’s how often you do it and how much. And each individual, that amount will be slightly different depending on many factors.
@tricksterjoy9740 Жыл бұрын
@@inkey2 exactly. And there’s a massive difference between smoking a pack a day for 20 years, and smoking 3-5 cigs a day for 20 years. I’m not a doctor, but from the (admittedly limited) research I’ve done, smoking two pipes a day, not inhaling, is VERY ROUGHLY the equivalent of 1-2 cigarettes a day, but with significantly less lethal risks. (Cancers in the mouth are generally more survivable, and generally less likely then cancers in the lungs)
@unclejuniorsoprano12 жыл бұрын
The government places an outrageously high tax on cigarettes. Why not beer & wine? After all, alcohol not only destroys the heart & liver, but is also the #1 cause of deaths on the roads, as well as the #1 cause of domestic violence, divorce & child abuse. If everyone would only smoke, people wouldn't linger on for years in nursing homes at taxpayer's expense. Smoking is not only good for your health, but also, good for society.

@fasteddie847 i understand about the addictive part....I am talking about the risk factor.
