The titles aren't bad inherently, except when you turn that father/teacher/rabbi/etc into your guru or gurus, replacing Christ, His words, and his Church as your main or sole source of eternal truth. Obviously you can and will be helped towards God by holy men (iron sharpen iron and all) and the examples of the Saints, but like mentioned, test everything and everyone.

Such a powerful story! Often times we are tempted to withhold sins in the confessional. If the story of the monk teaches anything, it's to let go of all pride and recognize that it's Jesus you are talking to in the sacrament of confession. He already knows what you've done, so just apologize for all of it and try to do better moving forward. Priests have heard it all.. You're not going to surprise them. Also, useing the screened side will maintain your privacy if you're concerned about them knowing who you are. Just think of the celebration that happens in heaven when a sinner FULLY repents of their sin. That's a party worth having a moment of discomfort and embarrassment for!

The weed that the enemy spread among the wheat was darnel. This is something we miss when we hear the parable of the good sower and his enemy. Darnel looks almost exactly like wheat, but its seed is toxic. This means the weeds growing among us can look and act just like good Christians, but it is only skin deep. That is why saints, especially living saints like Padre Pio during his life receive such intense scrutiny before they are declared saints, and you must be careful of influencers and politicians who say they are Catholic. If their job depends on their appearance, they may be true, but they may be inauthentic.

POPE BENEDICT XVI: “God wants your friendship. And once you enter into friendship with God, everything in your life begins to change. As you come to know him better, you will find you want to reflect something of his infinite goodness in your own life. You become attracted to the practice of virtue. You begin to see greed and selfishness and all the other sins for what they really are, destructive and dangerous tendencies that cause deep suffering and do greater damage, and you want to avoid falling into that trap yourselves. You begin to feel compassion for people in difficulties and you are eager to do something to help them. You want to come to the aid of the poor and the hungry, you want to comfort the sorrowful, you want to be kind and generous. And once these things begin to matter to you, you are well on the way to becoming saints”

What do you think about Fr. Ripperger? Aren’t there saints who many people loved them like St. Philip Neri, St. padre Pio… etc
@catholicmenspodcast2 ай бұрын
It doesn't really matter what I think, but I only listened to one of his talks about manhood and definitely liked it. I would only add that if you give a young man role-models from our sainted history, manliness becomes much easier to attain. But yes, I liked it immensely. I don't know everything about everyone and I'm not the arbiter of who is worthy to be followed. I'm just saying be careful: a big following doesn't neccessarily mean correct Catholic teaching or that someone is holy. Usually it means exactly the opposite in this messed up world. My biggest friends are the great Doctors of the Church: St. Alphonsus Liguori, for instance. Or the amazing sermons of St. John Vianney. I'm not sure about the great St. Philip Neri, but I definitely know that there were hundreds of cases in which St. John Bosco cured people immediately in their presence, even resurrecting two boys from the dead. However he greatly disliked the attention that this caused. People flooded into his Church with requests. That's why he started giving them a novena to Our Lady Help of Christians in attempt to disconnect the miracle from him. The miracle really comes from above, anyway. However, Don Bosco also said that demonic people could appear to work miracles through the devil and this can be discovered if they show signs of being "proud, unruly or untruthful." He told one of his Salesian nuns who claimed to be having visions: God would never appear to someone as disobedient as you. She promptly left the convent in a huff. Guess the visions weren't real after all. Basically, true sanctity or devilry can be very hard to discern and we should definitely keep our eyes open. Popularity has nothing at all to do with sanctity. You can't really say Our Lord was truly popular, because He was crucified and died like an apparent criminal. If you speak the truth, expect some adherents, but there will be far more persecution for justice's sake. Job from the Old Testament was not very popular either, come to think of it. I hope this helps.

Fr Chad is a scrupulosity factory. In my opinion he's quite proud and says things that are imprudent. It also bothers me that he rubs elbows with a lot of podcasters who are arguably sedevacantists

@@Heracleetus Never got that sense from Father Ripperger at all. Scruples, imprudence, sedes, nothing. I enjoy his talks on the Rosary and the use of Latin.
@Heracleetus2 ай бұрын
@@beatlecristian there are plenty of people online (myself included) who say they fell into scrupulosity as a result of listening to Fr Chad's "conferences". As for the imprudence, I've heard other priests and other exorcists talk about how Fr Chad imprudently discusses details of exorcism cases in which he's served as exorcist, and the spirit in which he shares these unnecessary details is more in the spirit of attention seeking than edification. I'm thinking particularly of the many times he says stuff like "I was really making this demon suffer and twisting the screws on him, then he admitted *this* startling fact to me!" ... He's said things about Harry Potter, and supposed demons connected to the books, that were proven false. I also recall him saying "if you're not in a state of grace then your prayers merit NOTHING!" and "if you are praying to anyone but God, you must pray out loud because only God has access to your thoughts". I also recall (don't quote me on this) him saying that married women working, when it isn't absolutely necessary for their survival, is *gravely* disordered, as is men being stay-at-home dads.... My understanding, from speaking with other priests, is that these things are not grave matter (they are at worst only a little disordered) but the point is Fr Chad gives his opinions and false information like they are fact. I wish I could find where he said these things, to support my point. I was a big fan of him when i started my reversion, until I realized his talks were making me scrupulous and sucking all the joy out of my faith. I know I'm not unique there. As for the sede angle, Fr Chad often finds himself on the podcasts of Taylor Marshall and others who disparagingly refer to our Holy Father as "Bergoglio" and continue to push the extensively debunked Pachamama conspiracy theory, yet in contrast, Fr Chad has never, as far as I know, been on the podcasts of any "popesplainers".

I'd expect the comments section to be more worried over going to Hell for "one bad thought." I am simple enough I can't find the reference to this opinion, that I would say take this with a pinch of salt, but when I do things right by God and my conscience, this is one less worry I have to deal with when I face everyday evil: that the devil will try and use an unconfessed sin against me. I don't know why my opinion matters, but it's going to take a very long time for me to trust a man who only a few years ago said that the reason why men pick the harder jobs in society is because we all descended from lobsters. It takes quite a while for all the absurd theories to be boiled out of a person's mentality even after conversion. IF he has truly converted, a recent convert has no business lecturing anyone on the Bible, but should humbly listen and learn for at least as long as he studied in psychology. You wouldn't let a brain surgeon operate on you if he had only recently acknowledged that brains exist. Educating people on the Bible is the most sacred task there is and should be done with the same care as an experienced physician. I respect him for standing up to the woke mob, but that doesn't mean every idea he has is wonderful because he's famous. His reasons for not calling a transgender student by their preferred pronoun was NOT because it wasn't their biological sex, but because authority got involved. Not the highest reasoning, if you ask me.
