The difference between you and ppl who do believe in these TESTIMONIALS (not "just a story" as you put it) is you have a mere human conviction while believers have a supernatural faith. You don't sound like a trad Catholic because you're oblivious to the power of prayer and sacramentals. You sound like a pathetic Protestant who doesn't know the Catholic faith or scripture. There are doubting Thomas' in every group and you're probably ignorant of the three types of faith. As a trad Catholic, you should know them. Do you? Prove me wrong.

You're basically calling Fr. Peter Pernin and an entire community of people in Champion, Wisconsin "pious liars." Also the Bishop who approved devotion to Our Lady of Good Hope is a liar, according to you, even though he examined all of the testimonies. There's no basis for not believing in miracles if you're Catholic, or even Christian. Do you believe in the miracles of Jesus? You're no better than the pharisees angrily citing scripture to Our Lord as he cured the sick. I believe in miracles which were thoroughly investigated by legitimate authorities. I'm not about to start listening to some cracker barrel theologian lecturing me about what he thinks are lies. Sometimes God allows good people to suffer and sometimes he works miracles. It's a mystery of life reflected in many stories throughout the Bible. I highly recommend it. If miracles have happened since the dawn of time biblically, if miracles could happen in 19th century Wisconsin, then they can still happen today. All that's required to believe it is a thorough investigation. If this has been done, then back off and let people believe it.

The statue of Our Lady Of Guadalupe that survived belonged to the Halpin family, who went viral the last few days for singing the Regina Caeli after their home burned down but the statue, and a statue of St Joseph, survived. Of course it’s prudent to take precautions, but why would you take the time to poo poo on a positive story?

@@catholicmenspodcast Well yes, they actually are liars, and this story is significantly exaggerated. The Shrine was not the only place to have survived the fire, more than a dozen other properties within a few miles from the Shrine also didn't burn. The Presbyterian Church in Champion (just down the road from the Shrine) also didn't burn. Not many people realize this, but a couple years after Bishop gave his formal approval of the apparitions, the diocese started to find-out lots of the history was inaccurate. The three mariologists didn't investigate all of the history and they were ONLY looking at doctored version presented by the Shrine before all the history started falling apart. Fr. Pernin is well known for exaggerating parts of his story and his bishop even forbade him from talking about the fire which is why Fr. Pernin wrote and published his book in Canada and toured outside of his diocese to spread his talks on the fire miracles. The Shrine surviving the fire does not fall into what the Catholic Church would consider a "miracle" because there was no evidence of supernatural intervention, but rather natural causes and natural explanations for is surviving. The Shrine should not be sharing some of the things they say, and the diocese it too weak to correct them because it would reveal Bishop Ricken's failure in overlooking so many basic facts of the history.
