Beware Tacoma Owners - Wireless Qi Charging Pad Lifting/Bubbling!

What’s up with these Qi Charging Pads?? I noticed mine has started to bubble and have come to the realization that it’s fairly common in the 3rd Gen Tacomas.. In this video I discuss what I did to resolve this issue for me..

Awesome video, very informative on taking apart the center console, really appreciate it. I was thinking about adding LEDs to the cup holders. My Scion XD came with them and they look really nice.

2019 no issues yet and I do use that pad, or I should say used to. I just got a 15 Pro Mx with a case that does not allowed me to use that Qi wireless pad. If I can figure out a way to connect an Apple MagSafe charger to that Qi charger adapter for power, I may just buy that part you bought and adapt the Apple MagSafe charger to that piece. Very good video!!

The biggest joke on our truck. I have an Otter box cover on my apple and the charging pad doesn't work with it. I just use the usb in the council.

I took my iPhone out of the otter box and used the charger, it worked but got very hot

I’m WAAAAAAAAAY too lazy to pop my phone in and out of the case. Who doesn’t put their phone in a case?!? It’s just a little junk cubby for me. Basically a useless charger.

I agree.. they made a TSB for it, but only cover it if you’re within your 3 year warranty…. Also they just replace it with the same one.. so nothing is really getting fixed..

Agreed.. Lacks power to charge through a case making is useless to most. Like the camera another easy update Toyota should have made at this price point. BTW.. Got my blacked out OEM heritage grill. Took some “bending” of the rules but got it done without buying the lift kit 😅

Mine hasn't started bubbling yet, but as a charger it blows dog. My S22 ultra battery level usually drops while it is "charging", even though the pad lights up when I put the phone on it

Mine just started to bubble also, I have a 2016 TRD SPORT 4X4...im gonna bring it to my dealerships attention on my next service. I extended my platinum warranty so hopefully it's covered.

Thanks for posting. I am considering the Xipoo WIRELESS CHARGING TRAY 15W WIRELESS PHONE CHARGING PAD FOR TOYOTA TACOMA as a replacement. Did you take a look at that option before replacing with the OEM part?

Thanks and yes I did. Honestly I don’t ever charge my phone on the wireless charger so that’s why I opted to not installs 3rd party wireless charger. However, if you want to use that area to charge your phone then definitely do what’s best for you.🤙🏼

Thanks for the video! This happened to my 2020 Sport Taco, Traded it in for a 2023 Taco PRO :). The cleaner is safe to use on the leather as well?

Yep it’s actually not genuine leather.. it’s a vinyl blend that Toyota calls “softex”. VRP is safe to use on it 👍🏼🤙🏼

Honestly based off of everyone I’ve spoken to.. they have never really worked.. I think alot of people just use them for storage units at this point..

I don't use mine I have mine turned off all the time I also believe it's a listening device for Toyota have talked about stuff in my truck but left my phone at home but when I get home is there stuff on my phone which I had was talking about in my truck the only way for that to be possible would be if that was a listening device

I believe there are some aftermarket chargers that you can install on Amazon..

I would just cut a piece of wood, stain it black and drop it over the charging pad and disable/disconnect the wireless charging wires.

Did they just replace it with the same one or did they give you a newer version? I don’t think they have a new version or updated version. Was just curious if they actually were fixing the problem or just replacing it with the same product that will probably fail again… really hope you don’t have any more issues with it. It’s really annoying for sure.🤞🏼

I don’t think 1 person has commented so far with anything positive to say about this wireless charger😂 it’s a real shame because I feel like it wouldn’t have taken much to make it so much better and functional..
