I grew up in Michigan, and Bewitched has always been my favorite show. I found out that Dick York lived in rockford Michigan, so I was a stupid young man and went to visit him. He and his wife were very kind. A different time, for sure. I never thought that i was intruding, especially since he was so ill, but I was thrilled. I'll always have that memory. Now i'm so sorry for bothering him, but he treated me like an old friend. One of the greatest days of my life.

I often think of celebrities like him who apparently suffer mostly in isolation - what if fans/admirers like us could respectfully support them? I heard none of the cast visited him. It must have been awful to gradually get worse to the point that he had to leave the show. Great that you showed you appreciated him although I can see how nowadays it might feel like intruding, some fans & paparazzi can be awful. I remember who they treated Amy Winehouse when I lived nearby in Camden/London. Like fruit flies, absolutely disgusting ❤🩹

It was well-known, that the other cast, especially Agnes, absolutely loved Dick York.

Absolutely wonderful ❤️ I truly enjoyed watching this special. The magic is still alive and keeps on giving in 2023. You showed the show at its best, but also the strains and demands made on the artists. The long hours, being away from one's children, the two Darrins, and broken relationships. It was cool to watch a special "Made for Canada" ad by Elizabeth Montgomery; she definitely had a knack for ads. I recognised the voice over in the ad who was a well known announcer on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) for the lengedary Canadian comedy duo "Johnny Wayne & Frank Shuster" in "Wayne & Shuster." Frank Shuster's cousin is the one who created the superhero Superman while in Toronto before he left for the USA. Frank Shuster's daughter wrote comedy and married fellow Canadian Lorne Michaels, creator of Saturday Night Live.. Everything connects. We are all connected. Well done. Love your work. Love the video of the commercial collection that the BEWITCHED actors appeared in. Here's a little tidbit. On a recent REELZ BEWITCHED special, it was mentioned that Dick Sargent called Dick York and discussed the role with him. I just read an article about Elizabeth Montgomery during the production of BEWITCHED and the interviewer asked her what she did during their three month break in production. She said "Nothing." Well, it turns out Liz would play multiple sets of tennis daily but, not against women, against guys. She felt women didn't play hard enough. She and Bill Asher were sports fans. I think Steve Lawrance's version is the best known. I love the one called "Samantha'.

Also, I was curious, have you seen the uncut working print of the pilot at the Television museum in LA? Apparently it runs about 35 minutes and has many of the missing scenes we see in these promos for the pilot.

Alice Ghostley also originally appeared in a much earlier episode of 'Bewitched' as another character as well. It was either the 1st or 2nd season, and she played a character named 'Naomi', a mortal housekeeper for the Stephens in one episode. The producers liked her so much that they brought her back as 'Esmeralda' in the later seasons. She acted as kind of a replacement for Marion Lorne's 'Aunt Clara' with her dysfunctional witch powers screwing things up.

Paul Lynde was very good as uncle Arthur but he didn’t have to have romantic chemistry with the female lead. I liked Dick Sergeant but his delivery of lines to Liz came off as Darrin being an ass to Sam. There was no romantic chemistry and Dick Sergeant wasn’t the best choice as Darrin. As for Robert Reed Florence Henderson has said she had to help him along. Robert Reed was very believable as a father and a husband. Dick Sergeant wasn’t believable to me. Liz went five seasons with someone she had chemistry with then someone who was her friend but had no romantic chemistry with. By the way one of my very best friends was a gay man and when we watched bewitched he pointed out the second Darrin had no chemistry with Samantha because he was gay! I didn’t even know he was gay until my friend told me. He also told me Maurice Sams dad and Uncle Arthur was gay. Regardless if they liked each other or not Dick York and Liz had chemistry. That’s why it worked so well for five seasons.

@@katluann Paul Lynde wasn't supposed to have a romantic chemistry with Elizabeth Montgomery. 🤔 Did you know that Dick Sargent was originally cast as Darren Stevens along with Tammy Grimes as Samantha? The cover versions of bewitched only work when done by a male singer because it’s like a love song or tribute to “Samantha” the main character. Don’t like the Peggy Lee or other versions. The Frankie Randall one isn’t bad as a Frank Sinatra/Frankie Avalon knock-off-style, but… Having said that, I’m glad they went with an instrumental. It makes the show more timeless. The vocal versions would’ve dated badly because a singer’s singing styoe becomes linked to a “decade” (eg; very 60s) and then the show is forever linked with that decade. Instead somehow, Bewitched has remained timeless in all our minds.

hmmm jonathan - could you please send me links to the dick york fan interview.. i tried so hard to find a better copy; or the stand in samples, and actually i'd actually pay for a good version of the lux commercial. Just let me know, you sound like a great expert who knows these things!!!

@bpintar Hi. Unfortunately the ones I saw on KZbin are not good quality either. I certainly wouldn't call myself an expert, just a big fan of the show and Liz Montgomery!

I'm not watching any of your videos, we were brought up watching this wonderful show. I don't give a damn what went on behind the scenes. You just want many likes, stop spreading rumors on a great show.

not enjoying this guy inserting himself into a story he has no role in - just shut up and introduce the segments
