I remember reading Combat & Survival magazine in early 90s ( always a month late in the states) and seeing the Crusader on offer and lusting after that and other British kit. The magazine ran a special offer: if you subscribed, you got a Magmor (looked like a knockoff of the Crusader) for 75US, which I believe was about 1/2 price of that bag at the time. I got the sub and the bag, but never heard any more about the brand or its demise The Magmor was the same size w/webbing to turn the zip-off pockets into a light patrol pack. The pack isn't super heavy, 1000d Cordura and carries well but I don't have a Crusader to compare it to. Cheers.

Hey Bex. Enjoyed the comparison. Just managed to pick up a Long Back in DPM. Sad to say that the shipping was almost the same as the Bag. All the best, from Cold, St Louis MO

the early plce bergens were made by .... drum roll ... Berghaus, they were olive green, slightly smaller than the later plce bergens, some have upside down side zips ... which causes a bit of a headache, the pro's for the plce bergen ... it is one of the most robust packs out there, even compared to other military's packs, ... zero thought was given to comfort, and it works best with webbing, the shelf of the webbing pouches helps spread the load to the webbing straps, (i took the frame out of a plce bergen with light and moderate loads it was far more comfy) the 2nd big pro ... its cheap and plentiful, ive got a berghaus ROC among my packs at the moment as a patrol bag type set up, for swamp diving and taking it places i'd be afraid to take a more expensive bag. like most vintage berghaus packs its awesome ... perfect balance between comfort and load bearing capacity. I had a modern berghaus crusader2 bought brand new a few years ago and it was SHITE ... made in china, poor quality ... i used it a couple of times and sold it as i lost confidence in it holding up to serious use. I'd recommend vintage berghaus over new every time.

I am in full agreement that the PLCE SC95 is best used with a webbing order, but you want to see the shit I get when doing webbing videos. Commenters say webbing is scary, or will be noticed, and it weighs too much. There is ZERO understanding in civvy street to the benefits or webbing and CS95 marriage. There is an upcoming video stating this fact that the CS95 was designed to use with webbing, and give an alternative (Non webbing) option too, (On standby for the comment wokes on a soap box)...lol I have since mounted one of my CS95 Bergen's to an external alloy frame & Recon 2 harness system, and is a 100% improvement for recreational use, that allows the contents of the webbing order to sit inside the CS95 without compromise to overall comfort and load balance. I have just bought a second Crusader Cyclops with rockets, one for Bugout and the other packed for weekend camping, with synthetic sleeping bags. I also camp with a vintage 55 litre cobmaster external frame for lightweight tarp/tent camping, off camera. I think the CS95 unmodified is way too much overkill for recreational camping/fishing/prospecting/astronomy (Type hobbies) At my age I take comfort over durability just to carry a tent and sleeping bag into a woodland. For that simple task the Berghaus fits the bill for me, with good durability.

@@bexbugoutsurvivor i mounted a plce bergen on a GS bergen frame ... it works but needs tweaking, as it doesnt work as well as i hoped, cant quite put my finger on what's wrong. Currently am putting together two back up kits, just basic kit ... military surplus, bergens will be stored at other family members houses, sort of bug out bag set up. (figured i had 90% of the kit needed, so why not) You are right thou ... as a camping pack the plce bergens are total over kill for most people. Modern packs are far better in design and comfort, its worth remembering the plce bergen is 30+ years old at this point, technology rolls on. I still turn to them partly because their tough but also partly out of senti-Mental reasons, lol .... ive got a eberlestock battleship and USMC filbe ... to be honest i'd turn to one of those first if i ever needed too bug out. I have a collection of vintage swiss rucks, i love them but they wouldnt be my first choice either. As you pointed out previously, its down to the user to pick a ruck suited to their activity. One pack wont do it all. Currently i'm looking for an Alice frame to put on my filbe ... really now keen on the poly-plastic frame it uses.

Personally you have the best one the crusader, wish I still had one but own a Vulcan and the back system just isn’t as comfortable although it looks as if it would be, it isn’t. The Vulcan also has a separate nylon compartment near the bottom, which since we both pack the sleeping bag and bivi the same way the nylon skirt always gets in the way of packing.

Just bought a second Cyclops. One for Bugout & one for camping with bulkier synthetic kit. I have tested a lot of Bergen's & the cyclops #crusader is going to be hard to be bettered....

Outstanding video brother!!! As an American I enjoy watching videos about British kit. I'm a huge fan of the British belt kit! I grew up on WW2/M1956 bits and pieces, then along came ALICE, then MOLLE gear! I must say as far as the older kit goes it's heavier but built better (AMERICAN KIT)! The Berghaus is impossible to find here in the states, the shipping alone WOW as much if not more than the items purchased. I am lucky though my local surplus store from time to time will get British surplus and I do snatch up pieces. Good kit I must add!! Thanks for sharing, I will keep watching! Long time viewer!👍👍👍👍👍From Mid-Michigan USA!
