@Midtoker Marius Play House of the Dead: Remake on the Switch and you'll see why. It worked so well on the Wii because of the sensor bar, the Switch relies on just gyro aim. The result is having to hit the recalibrate button every 30 seconds and it gets frustrating really fast.

The Lost World is one of few arcade games I finished. Was on holiday in Spain and started playing in a booth with a local kid. Neither of us could speak the same language but we worked together to get the game done. Even spent my last coin to revive them at the end. Good times. Good game

I guess the Theater I went to was lucky then. I miss the arcade that was in the theater, and the theater itself really. Back then before the Internet was really a big thing that everyone had it was nice to have an arcade in the theater to kill time while I was waiting an hour and a half for the next showing of a movie.

As a young Mexican kid who emigrated to the US with his single mom, the Lost World Arcade at my local Gatti's was genuinely the coolest thing I had ever seen up until then, there was literally nothing like it for me. I spent entire days around that cabinet, even if I couldn't play it! When the booth finally got taken down around 2016, I actually managed to keep the headboard with the two sirens and cardboard background! It's the centerpiece to my Jurassic collection :)

I was the same. Although it isn’t canon, in my head-cannon, the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World franchises takes place in a multiverse with one single main one that connects the two, but retcons extended lore, a timeline specifically based on the books, one based on the original trilogy and comics, and one where each movie or film is its own fragmented timeline in order to explain soft-cannon and retcons like the video games. That’s my pov though.

I think a rail shooter inspired by Peter Jackson’s King Kong 2005 would be extremely cool. Also if a Jurassic World arcade ever got made, it would be cool if there were 4 separate missions divided by 3 sections that you can play in any order just like the 2015 JP arcade, except this time, T. Rex would be the 1st mission, Spino would be the 2nd mission, Giganotosaurus would be the 3rd mission, where you try to tranquillize all 3 of these large theropods in addition to the many species from a lot of the previous movies that would appear in these missions, some large herbivores would serve as mini bosses like Triceratops and a few medium sized theropods like Carnotaurus and a pterosaur like Quetzalcoatlus would serve as mini bosses as well. Velociraptors would still be some of the main dinosaurs you would see and they’d look different depending on the mission you’re in, but for two of the missions they’d be a related species, for example, in the T. Rex mission, you would see JP raptors and Lost World raptors and green super raptors, in the Spino mission you’d see JP3 male & female raptors and red & black super raptors, the Giga mission would have red feathered Pyroraptors and black feathered Pyroraptors & there would be black & yellow super raptors, Dilos, Compys, and Pteranodons of course make a return in each of the missions. The 4th mission, the hybrid mission, wouldn’t have raptors, but Blue would make a cameo as a background dinosaur, this time you’d be dealing with Troodons which are even faster than raptor’s and take away more health than raptor’s because they’re venomous, and some new species that haven’t appeared in a movie but have appeared in previous JP arcade games, like Deinosuchus would be a mini boss in one of the missions, and Edmontosaurus which would be a background dinosaur for peaceful scene purposes, but the 4th mission would include Indoraptor, Indominus Rex, and Ultimasaurus in that order as bosses which instead of tranquillizing, you have to straight up kill them while you’re trying to escape the region you’re in and get all the tranquilized animals to a safe location, and it would finally give Ultimasaurus some representation. How cool would all that be?

So I actually remember that Special Edition booth of Lost World at the GameWorks in Miami, FL back in the day! From what I remember it encased you in a completely dark room and changed the order of how the game started (I remember it started on the trailer). It has wind effects and rotating chairs starts out with an audio clip from the movie (something along the lines of "Look, they're hatching..." before whipping the chairs around immediately to raptors coming at you. I never remember getting that far, but it was so damn impressive. I'm glad to see in wasn't just a fever dream, just sad it's lost media at this point. Hopefully some day this and that weird motion whole-body controlled version of Tekken 3 gets uncovered.

The Lost World games scared me to death every time I was at an arcade as a kid. Big, totally enclosed booths that always stood out as set pieces, loud roars coming from inside and much older kids going in and seemingly not coming out. I peeked in once as like a 6 year old and this teen girl inside asked if I wanted to play, but I saw one of the t rex scenes and took off running to my parents. Brilliant design.

Had the pleasure of playing the JPIII arcade in my hometown theater back in the day a couple times as a kid. Never really thought of it as annoying, since the combination of a sugar rush and adrenaline coursing through my veins took over with the need to destroy everything that popped up on the screen taking priority, but seeing the gameplay all these years later, I'm simply amazed at how poorly it aged compared to The Lost World's arcade. Great review, what a nostalgia trip.

I always loooooved The Lost World arcade, back in '97 it was a technical showpiece, the Dreamcast wasn't out yet, consoles were barely using decent 3D graphics at low res and THIS thing exploded in arcades. Even years later, I still appreciated this game for running so smoothly and seemingly without loading times to speak of, I think it loaded the entire thing into RAM and it absolutely showed. That's probably one of the reasons why it stuck so long in arcades, it was a relatively low maintenance machine beyond re-calibrating the actual pistols themselves.
@backlogbuddies

It wasn't loaded into RAM. RAM at that time didn't even get into 512MB, much less gigs. They reused old cabs and just optimized it. The cabs used also had tons of generic parts that were easy to get, and official parts were insanely cheap and in production for a long time. It stayed around because it was insanely easy and cheap to fix.

This is a really good video! Got a lot of nostalgia for the Jurassic Park 2 and 3 arcade games. JP3 was one of those films I vividly remember seeing in a cinema as a kid so even though I know it's pretty mediocre overall, there are memories connected to it that make me a bit more lenient on it. Plus I kinda consider the Spinosaurus my favourite dinosaur because of that film, even if the T.Rex is still definitely joint-favorite really. Funny thing about the first Jurassic Park game and its ridiculous difficulty; people haven't been able to avoid damage during the intro T.Rex section even when doing a tool-assisted speedrun. It's basically coded into the game for you to take damage, it's pretty sneaky. I really hope we see Jurassic Park 3 playable via emulators eventually too, even if just for having it be future-proofed once all the cabinets are gone or so rare they're basically gone. If you're a fan of light gun games, you should check out the House of the Dead series! They're zombie games but they get really weird and wacky as they go on and pretty much all of them are available on PC. Also look into Teknoparrot, it's an emulator for modern arcade games and I believe they're working on getting the most recent Jurassic Park shooter running. I also gotta mention the Aimtrak and Sinden light guns if you haven't heard of them or don't already own one, they're really great light guns for PC and modern screens!

I'm glad you liked the 2nd and 3rd games! I was a kid around the time of the 3rd movie, so I completely understand the nostalgia surrounding it. I had a lot of friends growing up and even now who love Spinosaurus both in general and in connection to the movie. The first Jurassic Park game is closer to an interactive movie thanks to the technical limitations of the time, so I find it 100% believable that there are moments of literally unavoidable damage. That game definitely doesn't care about hiding its unfairness. lol As for emulation and other light gun games, I have looked into various rail shooters over the years. House of the Dead as a franchise has been on both my "To Play" and "To Review" lists for quite a while now, and it is simply a rabbit hole I haven't jumped down yet. I have tried Teknoparrot once, some odd years ago, but my computer flagged it as a virus and I decided to leave it for later once I've covered the games I already have access to. I haven't really considered getting a proper light gun set up for my home systems. I play such a wide variety of games that using only the mouse (or sometimes even keys) seemed like more than enough. I'll give it some thought, though. If I'm ever rich and famous, getting a legit arcade cabinet emulator with proper light guns is on my bucket list, but for now I use a single laptop for everything. I'm sure you would be happy to know that I plan to cover the other arcades I have on this channel; including Ocean Hunter, Carnevil, and a few more I won't name. In fact, the script for Ocean Hunter is currently being written. I'll definitely look into covering more games considering how well this video did. Thank you for checking it out and I'll definitely be using your comment as feedback on what to cover on the channel.

I never made it past the Dilophosaurus in the first game myself, but I remember watching two guys beat the game and freaking out that there were two T-Rexes. I’ve seen a few places with Lost World nowadays and two or three-credited the 2015 game, but I really want to find the original somewhere so I can actually try and beat it.
@BexxReviews
@BexxReviews Жыл бұрын
The Dilophosaurus was almost always where I died when I played casually as a kid, and I would normally stop there. Some time after beating Lost World, probably when I was between 8 and 13, I decided that JP1 would be the next game I beat. One birthday party worth of tokens later (this was the era where arcades were all variations of Chuck-E-Cheese) and I pushed through the full game. As I mentioned in the review, the game is far from fair, and it ate way more money than Lost World by the end. As for finding a JP1 in the current day, try one of those "retro nostalgia" arcades. The kind that serve beer and have a one time entrance fee. It being pixel art means it is more likely to be there than in the back of a restaurant. Also keep in mind it doesn't have guns but rather joysticks, so some places might categorize it away from any dedicated FPS sections. My favorite arcade as a teen (a now long dead Gatti Town) had Lost World in a FPS focused section but JP1 in the young kids section. The old bright colors made it blend in there up until you heard some toddler cry about the scary dinosaurs. Good luck in your hunt!

@@BexxReviews thanks for the tip. I love these games (mostly- I’ve seen the JP3 one but I never bothered playing it cause it looked lame compared to JP1 and 2) and it’s nice to see someone give them some well-deserved attention.

There’s still a JP3 machine in the Tomorrowland arcade at Disney World. Been there for almost 20 years, so one of the two guns breaks a lot. It’s a fun enough game, but super easy. I can beat it with only continuing ONCE. Ive found it recently in a town south of Kansas City as well, but i doubt that one will affect too many readers. Feel free to ask if you wanna know! But this camcorder footage is weird because i never see the “DODGE!” Warning with the big red-blue arrows pointing offscreen. Pretty important element since, in a noisy arcade? You cant hear almost any dialogue…

Great job with the video, JP3 was always such a disappointment both the movie and arcade game. Wish they would make another arcade game since the first 4 movies all had a companion game made around the time of the movie, so many new dinos and locations to add.

As for the fourth one, it's a fine rail shooter and l can enjoy it for what it is. The first one will forever be my favorite for it's faster pace gameplay and better music which isn't boring and adds to the gameplay

Your approach, excellent balance of being informative and entertaining, the humorous commentary, and everything else was superb. I will definitely be checking out other reviews that you may do in the future. I would love to request reviews of king Kong: the official movie of the game for the Peter Jackson film, and the 2008 version of Turok; these are both amazing dinosaur related video games I absolutely adore and would love to hear more people talking about them.

I plan to cover the King Kong franchise with a video per era. I will definitely be talking about the game (multiple ports are planned as I have a lot to say about the DS version surprisingly) around that time. As for Turok, I am a little hesitant to cover it as there is already a few good reviews over the franchise, but multiple people have requested now so I'll give it another consideration.
