For me it was from expensive-ish headphones to super cheap headphones from a local grocery store As absurd that may sound but these headphones that were like 10 bucks had a significantly more pleasant tuning without any sibilance as a result and because of their cheap materials they weigh absolutely nothing and additionally come with three years of warranty. That's a all in package and honestly I could buy twenty of these headphones and still have some leftover for other things. They have this fabric which makes them more pleasant to hold than the other headphones I have which is nearly all metal and allegedly some fancy material that I do not care about in the slightest. Yes, it's the Philips Fidelio X2HR. They're covered in premium material but do not hold the candle to those cheap headphones (to be fair that brand is similar to Philips since they also make other products like toasters and egg coolers, it's a technology based brand.) Either way, it's a testament that quality has come a long way compared to other ten years ago what you would find in stores. The standard is higher now. In terms of sound I think these are better too as surprising it may seem, it's a open back against a closed back and the thing is, imagining sounds way more cohesive around you than the Philips that sound vast but hard to distinguish footsteps. I can hear further with the X2HR but I can't pinpoint footsteps and directions clearly because of how overwhelming it sounds. Meanwhile these cheap things have a small soundstage but a more like globe-like imagining which makes you hear directions way way more easy no matter where it is from. Of course explosions may sound closer than they are because of the shorter soundstage but it does in a way where it's still distinguishable. In a nutshell I prefer a small soundstage which doesn't overwhelm. What headphones do you have? And what do you find the strengths of it are?

Amazons sound, detailed, deep and controlled bass, big sound, treble and higher frequencys are great. Love them!

Im in a crux. Since these are just dropping. What do ya'll think? My recording headers died recently after a decade of service. I'm stuck between these DT 770 PRO X Century Edition Vs their DT 700 Pro X Closed-back Thoughts? are the 700 pro still higher quality? Anyone know which will deliver a more "True" sound?

770 are the better tuning. The 700 pro have a bigger 4k dip that viels the sound more like a Sennheiser.

Out of the box DT700 is more neutral, and the build quality is even better, but for me that’s about it. I do like the sound of the DT770 much better. They are not neutral tuned like the DT700, but with the Oratory EQ settings the DT770 is perfect for studio use. The thing with the DT700 is, it’s soundstage is much smaller, and the sound is a bit muffled and lacking some detail. For me it’s definitely not an upgrade. So new doesn’t always mean better, and this goes for the upcoming ‘special edition’ as well. I hope they are great, we’ll have to see.

@@slush1618I've preordered them so if I remember I'll comment what they sound like. The only real change is the driver, the tuning is the same so hopefully they remain a classic with better build quality.

I’m having the same dilemma. These new 770s have the same STELLAR.45 driver as the 700s at 48 ohms; as well as the same detachable xlr. It’s a bit cheaper than the 700 but comfort may still play a factor. Probably can’t go wrong with either 🤷‍♂️

Hopefully the Limited Edition run would just be the 100 year anniversary branding on the headband. But who knows besides the folks at Beyerdynamic. Perhaps they have to see how well these sell to keep the 770 Pro X as a regular production model. In any case, I like what I see here. Bought one for my Nephew as a graduation gift, then bought one for myself.

700 series are the unlimited edition and cost more.

I took a pass on the 700 pro x, while it is the closed-back headphone that has the elusive detachable cable, and a handsome, slick new modern design you might expect from an audiophile headphone, the headband turned me off, reminded me of the custom street. I preferred the traditional wrap around button cushion. Also was somewhat concerned about the tuning being a bit flatter as I enjoy the extra bit of bass. I had thought about getting it from time to time but ultimately never did. When this 770 pro X was released, it only took me a few weeks to decide to order one. Hope this one goes into regular production and doesn't fade away quickly like the 80 ohm Custom Studio, which I use every day.

I was wondering how close to neutral the sound is? As the 80 ohm has been really great for VoiceOver because it has been great for accuracy for the hearing how my voice actually sounds verses too much boost? Thanks!

Less neutral, more lows and highs, but much more defined, and the mids are not recessed anymore so speech are loud now
