I had a previous gen MMX300 with a velcrod headband and it lasted 2 years, the buttoned design is probably much more durable

Thanks for this review! The Sennheiser HD 490 PRO is also 330. Which would you think would be the better option? Btw not worried about the lack of mic on the 490 I’d get a mod mic or something.

How do the soundstage, directional imaging, sound-separation, and clarity/resolution of the 330 compare to the PC38X with both of their stock tunings?

The MMX 330 Pro has a wider soundstage, but it's not drastic. Sound separation is also a win for the MMX 330, especially with busy mixes. I have to EQ the PC38X to get the most out of it for FPS games. Clarity is definitely better on the MMX 330 - mostly in the upper midrange and treble, but below that, the PC38X holds its own. The main trade off is that the PC38X has stronger bass and significantly moreso with the velour pads.

And the MMX build quality is way better. I can tell you that from owning their headphones in the past and owning 2 or 3 different PC38X. Those things are made out of the cheapest, creakiest plastic ever. I don’t think they break easily or anything but they feel very cheap. Beyer feels premium. Like you get what you pay for and you can replace all of the parts. And I’m not just saying all of this to talk myself into buying them 😂.

How open back are the 330Pro since they only have small slits on the top? Normally open backs have the whole side open, does that make a significant difference?

Yeah, there's a very wide range of how much of an opening open-back headphones have since there's no true standard. In a direct comparison to the PC38X which has way more venting, the MMX 330 Pro still has a wider soundstage to me.

@ Okay thank you very much! One last thing, since the side isn’t as open/vented, does it isolate background noises like cars, people talking and so on better than one that is more open/has more venting? And how much of the surrounding can you hear with the 330Pro?

@@jamesstevens968 I think they're great for story games, I use them in Horizon Forbidden West a lot. The bass is deep, but not that strong out the box. However, with EQ the bass can get a lot more powerful.

I have the Penrose which is basically the Orbit S and Mobius without the head tracking. I prefer the MMX 330 Pro, because of the wider soundstage and deeper sub-bass. However, the Penrose has just as good detail in the midrange and treble. I find the Penrose too harsh in the highs even with EQ, but if that's the sound you're looking for you might prefer the Penrose instead.

I tried both and kept MMX 330. For FPS gaming (I play warzone) in my opinion it is better in just about every aspect plus it has Microphne that is pretty good
