The thrift store is full of basic items-not broken, not ugly-just “okay.” In today’s video, I take 12 of those ordinary thrift store finds and upcycle them into unique and stylish home decor. These items include a 1970’s candelabra and small brass plates, a frame with an inspirational phrase, a small wicker basket, a plastic alarm clock, a faux framed tile, a wicker vase, a small gold frame, framed medallions, a brass lamp with no shade, a Big Lots decorative storage box, and outdated books.

Shut the front AND back doors! Your creativity knows no bounds. I think when you are purchasing things at a thrift store you have the freedom to do whatever you want with them! It doesn't matter if someone didn't approve of what you did, I hate when people give thrifters a hard time over these things. If they don't approve of something you did, then they can go and purchase their own thrifted items and do what THEY think is best. Don't listen to them, you are a creative genius. Every single one of these things today was so cute and quaint! I love what you did with the lamp, making a shade of a doily! What a cool idea! The little birds in the picture frames were so cute. There were so many great projects again! I really love the clock on the candelabra parts, it's so cool! I am a paper artist and a huge trend is Steam Punk. If you would have used an old gauge image for the clock face and added a little metal finial at the top and made it grungy, I would have bought it! I love anything that is old, metal and unusual! But it's fabulous just the way it is! The lamp with the doily shade really surprised me in a good way! It turned out so well! And I really love the Dragonfly pin project. I make journals for Cancer patients and it took me a while to come up with a design that could work for both men and women. Every time I made one in the early days I was always wishing I had added to or subtracted something. I learned to just love the process! I've made over 150 journals this past year and a half and it never gets old. I'm giving back. They were there for me when I was undergoing chemo for Triple Negative Breast Cancer. I found the perfect way to do it! As long as I'm still here, I will do it. God placed it on my heart.

Love the projects! My favorite is #3-the books made to look like little European row houses. I'm going to do those on Harry Potter Hardback books I thrifted for my Harry Potter obsessed daughter. Lol. The vase with the silk flowers reminds me of when we used to dip silk flowers in liquid stiffened to "porcelainize" them in the 1980's. Love the retro look!

@CanterburyCottage We used a product specifically formulated to stiffen silk flowers so when they hardened they looked like porcelain. One dipped (soaked really lol) the flowers in the product then reshaped them while wet onto whatever surface you desired to put them on. We used to put them on straw hats, baskets, vases, wreaths, etc. It was messy but fun! You could even paint the flowers, when dried, however you wanted. They did turn out slightly white-ish, not as bright as before. I was a floral designer back in those days, and I used to get a lot of orders for lilies & daises placed on baskets. I just googled porcelain flower dip, & UV Dip Resin looks interesting! :)
