Not sure I agree. I've seen some really bad movies, some of them westerns, its no different really to any other genera, each genera has things about them which make them unique. Il Mio West, The Villain, The Quick and The Dead, the Ridiculous Six, A Million Ways to Die in the West, are really bad. This makes them worse in a way to me that they're letting down and insulting such a great genera.

Certainly a classic. Found the relationship between Duval And Costner strong & believable. Costner created a reality and depth that brought the scenes together in a coherent (not always known these days) story line that wastes nothing. A great western.

I go back to this movie time and again. I'm a fan of westerns from the thirties through John Wayne. More modern takes never seemed to me to be more than cheap imitations of the classics until Open Range. This movie ticks every single box to provide a unique feeling I though was lost to the past. I just can't find a flaw.
