These blood warriors were some work! Beyond the time constraints, they were really really messed up. I went through the stripping process several times and tried to get them to a good place to at least be presentable. Unfortunately I pretty much binned half of them because, and I’m pretty sure, the last owner used some kind of acetone on them, melting away s good portion of the details. Hard to see under all the layers of paint, even on the good ones you can see evidence. But I picked the 5 best ones and made them look as nice as I could in order to get them ready for the army sale. All in all I’m pretty happy with the way they turned out. They are most definitely playable models!!
This week I almost didn’t get a video out. I’ve been in a lockdown because of exposure to Covid, and while that seems like I would have extra time, well it doesn’t, being a dad means that I have other responsibilities, so I’ve been home with my son for the week. I scraped together time to get this far and I still plan on having a full video out tomorrow, but at least the footage for this video has been shot!!

As the original seller, a bit of a back story. I have been buying and selling Warhammer for 15 years. I also do professional painting jobs and commission for fun. About four years ago, a fellow wargamer gave me his 9-year-old son Khorne army after he passed away for free. It was his first army and was using it to learn how to paint. I placed them in simple green but ironically moved to Reno NV shortly after for work. When I returned back home to PA beginning of last year, I discovered them and put them up for sale (I was downsizing at the time). Ironically, If I had them with me in NV, I could have walk a mile to the house and said: Free army, here you go. Please remember, we all start somewhere.

This certainly marks the first time that a seller has come forward after a video that I’ve made. Thank you for sharing, I really appreciate it. It’s very unfortunate and sad that your friends son passed away. Hopefully I can do a little justice to the army by fixing it back up. Being from Reno as well, crazy coincidence. Such a small world man.

This is all BS; same comment has been posted in multiple videos with the same response. This is scumbag behavior and it deserves to be called out. I am saving these comments as evidence Edit: looks like these videos are of the same collection of models, but the same comment being copypasted multiple times with the same copypasted response is sus AF. I'm not convinced.

I like this idea a lot! Imagine, not an army of chaos undivided, but an outcast band of mutated, broken, cast-offs exiled by each of the four dark gods, allowed to roam real-space in exile, hating each other and squabbling constantly, banding together strictly for survival, pariahs even in the eyes of their fellow chaos worshippers, they lurch through battles in the vain hope of redeeming themselves in the eyes of their Dark lords.

Hey Casey, love the show. I love showcasing how a hand firmly in the hobby side of things can repair almost anything that can happen to a mini. I have some experience with these "beyond repair" models as I play Bretonnia and have pieced my army together used from eBay for the last 15 years or longer. There are NO Bretonnian models that are beyond repair. They can't be. period. I once bought an auction of "primed black" knights a year or so ago. Primed back was code for melted with aerosol over large surfaces. the plastic literally bubbled and foamed where it was melted. Lances twisted, helmets rendered featureless, and Banners unrecognizable. Most of the damage was on the Flat surfaces where it met the edges making the Cloth look unrecognizable but leaving the horses more or less non-mangled. I rescued a single model to start with a razor blade and sanding sticks over the course of about 15 hours to a surface that was paintable if not recognizable as a 6th edition Bret. As I had DOZENS of these models all needing rescue to the same degree, I totally changed the aesthetics for my Knights Errant and utilized the refurbishing process to differentiate the Knights Errant from the other knights on the table. The refurbished knights are now the best looking unit on the table-top. Their stark contrast from the other parts of the army makes them jump out. Not to mention how much I learned about hiding the crimes of damage with a good paint job, making replacement banners with packaging plastic, and utilizing bitz I would not normally use to repair or draw attention from surfaces. The miniature does not have to look like the box to be great. Damaged and repaired models are some of my favorite things to paint now as the restriction of the repair forces you to adapt. I still have about 20 knights to refurb, let me know if you want to take a crack at one ;) Cheers.

The upside is that your ruined warriors will make great casualty figures for objectives or just scenic adjuncts to the battlefield. I did the same thing with a CSM. Used a bunch of plastic sprue to represent bent piled girders, lay the marine recumbent in the pile and actually twisted part of his leg to make it look like his injuries included a dislocated hip. On a separate base I had a broken CSM bike. Have fun with it

Talk about your paint removal troubles, I can relate; the ultrasonic cleaner I procured on eBay doesn't appear to be doing anything resembling removing anything from any miniatures I put in it as of yet. I filled it with Simple Green, dropped the minis in (they're pretty well caked, though, to be clear), pushed the button, and....nada. It's a TruePower brand cleaner and I'm not finding any reviews on it as of yet, which I suppose is what I get for not researching first. I'm eyeballing a Maganasonic cleaner which is getting actual and good reviews online, so I may just bite the bullet and grab one of those and see what happens.

I may have missed it somewhere in an earlier video, is there a reason you like an oil wash vs something like nuln oil? Love your videos, keep the rescues coming!
@eBayMiniatureRescues
@eBayMiniatureRescues 3 жыл бұрын
I like oils because you have so much control over the final result. Nuln oil is great, but it really stains and darkens all of your colors, so you are forced to go back and do more highlights. With oils you can do all your highlights and edge highlighting before the wash, if the oil covers anything you don’t want it to, you can remove it with some mineral spirits. If I’m purposefully trying to darken a color and stain it, then nuln oil is my go to, for everything else, oils. Hope that helps :)

Good idea combining parts from the ten warriors to make five good warriors worth painting. Not sure what your bitz situation is, but could you convert the other five warriors to complete the unit? Hey Casey, a question for you. From my perspective, Australia, I have never seen cheap models from Warhammer or Battle Front on E-Bay. Even the second hand ones. I worked it out once and I found models selling for up to 10% more than the GW price. Add on to this the cost of postage, expensive from the US to Aus. So is there a particular search query you use in E-Bay for your projects and do the prices you quote for E-Bay purchases include the postage?

Reminds me of the 30 Eiserkern troopers I got from ebay for my Doomslayer Army, but instead of caked paint it was an intense amount of superglue that was used for assembly...for some reason. It was so bad that soaking them in LA's Totally awesome for 4 months did jack shit to the glue it was that thick. Then I busted out 91% Iso alcohol and mixed it with the LA stuff and that weakened the blobs immensly. They're still soaking so the glue can flake off when I get to them.

We don't get LA totally awesome here. I once stripped a mini for a friend and it took me like 1 day of constant "put in isopropyl alcohol, let it soak for 1-2 hours, scrub off with toothbrush, repeat, put in cleaning fluid, tootbrush, repeat all over" and there were still spots of color, but at least not enough to not prime over it. "Pewter" Pewter has some issues though. Paint has a much harder time sticking to pewter than plastic. From what I understand you can get better definition and more dynamic poses from plastic than pewter. And (as personal experience has taught me), when you drop a model, there is a MUCH higher chance of something nasty happening to it if its pewter than plastic... I liked my old pewter models. I still have some. But I recognize that it has issues and that the process of making plastic models has progressed to a point where you can make better plastic than pewter models.

Hey, I've got some questions about your lighting setup for filming, I've been contracting for about two years and my trusty lamp is way to bulky to work around with a camera up there too, where did you get your ring light?

Great video and result! Though I gotta criticize the lack of gloves and the resulting dryness of your hands! (Assuming you have to use aggressive detergent) Also the music on the first half did absolutely not fit into the video. That said I really like how you paint, the timelapse was fun to watch!

Could it be possible to make the melted ones look like they're fighting on after being blasted by some type of drake fire attack? Maybe a little greenstuff and some scorched paint effects?

I can accept the pros of contrast paints, but then I look at my too big amount of regular colors and decide that I won't go down that rabbit hole
