newer models might have more detail, but the older models have more personality and character and just look more fun. i can't tell you how much i love your channel, whether you are saving a model or just hanging out with your buddy i can never get enough of what you do. Would you ever rescue some classic chaos dwarves??? they are my favorite old models and i would love to see what you would do with them.
@kieran22217 ай бұрын
It's the context and the emotional background for your minis which I really, really like. It's the secret sauce for your channel, you connect with the minis and their paintjob in a completely different way to most.
@eBayMiniatureRescues7 ай бұрын
That really means a lot, thank you :)

Hell yeah the 3rd edition Chris Fitzpatrick Fire Dragons! I always liked how they were modelled after the 2nd edition Fuegan, scale loincloths and all. Painted a squad of them up last year, great work on yours!
@Telmach7 ай бұрын
The new paintjob looks cool, but I think you had a great motif in the old paint scheme as well. Black, silver, gold, and red looked very striking. Even the unintentional green was really interesting. It might be fun to make a call back squad with those colors done a bit more intentionally. Heck if you don't do it, I might just steal it for myself.
@eBayMiniatureRescues7 ай бұрын
I did like the colors that were there and I re-based the rest on the new bases and am going to keep them as is. I might try and do a 50/50 split with the old and new colors on the models coming in the mail, that would be fun.
@csdn44837 ай бұрын
For those wanting to strip metal minis like Casey, do not do what Casey did. Remove the base from the model before dropping it in the acetone. You might be able to save the base for use.
@max346717 ай бұрын
Yeah, I was wondering why the flip he didn't remove the bases beforehand? Also, why didn't he keep the tab on their feet and put a slot in the base toppers?
@eBayMiniatureRescues7 ай бұрын
lol, yeah I kind of forgot about the bases, and they ended up melted, not great, and they were perfectly savable, I planned on using them for the toppers until I realized they went in with the models!

Love it. I switched to Eldar from Ork with the release of the Codex that essentially stole the character of the Orks and made it impossible for them to win. Never regretted it and a lot of the models were still metals. Still have them and have never regretted the paint job or colour selection.

@Wijkert2 ай бұрын
3:23 even with acrylic paint I have noticed that the older the paint job, the harder it is to strip. I wonder what process causes that. It's not the paint. If I strip a model that has 20 year old paint on it, but has been painted recently, it comes right off.

It's funny you made this video because I'm building up a Cryx (Warmachine) collection again as of recently and while I'm mostly adhering to the studio paint scheme, I'm giving solos and warcasters a different armor color to make them stand out more and it's turning out nicely so far. Hoping to find people who like to play Oldmachine (MK 2 rules set, preferably), and I really enjoyed this video as usual.

The new colors are nice and vibrant, but I do agree with another user here that the Black/Silver/Gold/Red scheme wasn't horrible either. Just a thought, but with the other unit that was ordered, what if it was updated to something like an NMM style as an homage to the previous colors used? Certainly not necessary, but an idea.

Yeah, I never disliked the colors and I might paint a few of the ones I just got that way to see them updated, it would be nice to split them up with the different colors since I will have 2 full squads now. And I put my originals on the new bases and they look pretty nice!

In the mean time Aeldari remain my main army since the switch from Orks in the mid naughties. Being a little different my army is painted in metallics with flat acrylics to accent the colour. For the Fire Dragons I took inspiration from the late 19th early 20th century fire brigades where they wore brass helmets. So the armour is brass with red helmets accented in orange and red guns except for the fire pike which is pure snowy white. I have never had the urge to correct the colour schemes I employed and they did get a run out in Armies on Parade pre vid.

@eBayMiniatureRescues7 ай бұрын
This is the Redgrass lamp. It’s pretty good, the lights don’t split they just rotate so you can angle them a little better towards the mini. They are pretty long though so I don’t feel like I need two of them, which is nice. The only downside is that they are pretty expensive. Definitely a nice light, but you can get similar ones for quite a lot less.

I keep a couple old Valhallan ice warriors, some of my first painted minis, bought around... 2002 or so? Something like that. They're painted very badly, classic thin-your-paints and "what's a spray primer" situation. I will never re-do them. They are sacred to me. The final proof of how far ive come, how i get better every little model. I love those ugly mutant freaks. They're a reflection of a silly kid with big dreams and a paintbrush looking back at me through time.

I am thinking about doing that with some of the ones that are coming in the mail, get a 50/50 split with the new and old colors. I re-based the rest of the older ones and they look pretty nice on the blue bases with the silver reflecting a lot of that color!
@TheMichaellathrop7 ай бұрын
So I know you've gone out of your way with a lot of paint schemes to do a version that's a glow up of the original even if you had to strip that mini back to bare plastic/metal, why not do that for at least one model from your original fire dragon color scheme with a sort of black and steel "tacticool" look with some bright gold bling? Also if they were rangers it might have been worth it to try and save the guy half covered in half a bottle of green paint by turning that into an Eldar camo(phase?) cloak maybe with the bright blue electricity edge highlights you sometimes see for the half painted Tau units done over clear resin.

@ZedLeppelin19897 ай бұрын
Not printing the base toppers flat without supports is such a waste of resin
@eBayMiniatureRescues7 ай бұрын
probably, but they are much easier to get off the plate and clean up. I printed about 100 bases for my ork army straight on the plate and I broke a bunch trying to get them off the plate, so it felt like a wash in terms of resin usage. who knows though.

very nice video! at some point you saiud to aquire an airbrush, i would say, first people should understand how color work and be sure they want to comit in this hobby before buying one, as a cheap airbrush is not that great for painting mini, and they are close to a second hobby / skillset by themselve. definitly a good tool, but not for beginer
@eBayMiniatureRescues7 ай бұрын
That makes sense, but I kinda disagree, partially. When I came back into the hobby I got an airbrush almost right away, and because of that, even with a cheap one, I feel like I can now use the airbrush pretty well, if I hadn't gotten one with basically zero experience in miniature painting, I don't know that I would have felt better about it knowing more later, if that makes sense. When I started using it I primed models and did base coats, but it didn't take long to get comfortable with it to try new things. I would say if it's something you can afford to get, you should, because it's a great tool to have even if you are only priming or base coating 1 color. Getting a cheap one might not be the best route, but I started with a $15 Masters brush and it worked out well enough for me to want to get a better brush. I switched to Badger after a year of the cheap one and then worked my way up to H&S. The more expensive ones are definitely nicer, and less of a hassle, and if you've been painting for a little bit and want to get into it then going mid-range is the best place to start for sure.
@leforestierdamien8777 ай бұрын
@@eBayMiniatureRescues you are right i didn't though to progress with basecoat and priming, i think we agree that at first, a beginner should not have too hiigh expectation with an airbrush. and yes i forgot that it enable to prime model indoor
