this was a good topic. I loved all of your advice. This is only my 2nd summer NOT requiring childcare. Since my kiddo is older now, let me also share a few other ideas for low-cost summer childcare as a slightly more "seasoned" momma: 1) Look into city Parks & Rec for budget friendly options. They are often very affordable. My hubby camped out - literally camped outside of City Hall, to be sure we secured one of the 20 open slots for summer camp. He was in line at 3AM and surprised to realize he wasn't the first person waiting to enroll their kid. 2) 4H or YMCA often offer very affordable day camps and sleep away camps 3) Vacation Bible School (or something similar) from your local faith communities If your employer offers childcare reimbursement through payroll deductions, use it! Finally, ask every one of those civic organizations about scholarships or discounts. I was a stay-at-home mom for many years. Since we were a 1 income household, I really paid attention to expenses. We qualified for several that weren't promoted, but the Org had set aside money and merely by asking and explaining our financial situation, we received a bit of a discount.
