An international upbringing and a family committed to social justice in various forms influenced Anisha Wilmink to study at UWC Atlantic College. What stunned her, however, was: How exactly does one uphold UWC’s ambitious mission. A dilemma it was for her and a dilemma is may be for many of us here but she soon came to the realisation that ‘changing the world’ is a team effort that required one key ingredient: finding a way to be useful. After two years of learning how to ‘save the world’ in UWC Atlantic College, Anisha found herself lost as to how to meaningfully put this into action beyond high school. She will share how her past, her family and her experience at UWC led her to the realization that that ‘saving the world’ is a team effort and also quite straightforward: One simply has to find a way to be of use, and then become really really good at being useful. Central to this is the responsibility to speak up, and to listen. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
