Why are all these "worst albums of all time" rated at like a 5 or 4 out of 10? They're not even hugely bad scores
@supertenor27675 жыл бұрын
5/10 = 50 = F Lol
@Sound_Judgement5 жыл бұрын
It’s because they are aggregate scores, so some would give incredibly low scores and some would give higher, though not too high, scores which averages out to something higher than one would expect. The average music score on there is probably in the low to mid 70’s, which shows how kind critics as a whole generally are to music. So for something to average below 50 is a pretty damning comment on that music not being able to appeal at all to quite a few different people. It’s actually interesting to note how different reviews look on different mediums on Metacritic. Several movies have 1 out of 100, but the lowest album is 15 and I believe the lowest T.V. and Video Games are in the 20’s or 30’s. Video games enter the Yellow category of Mixed Reviews at a much, much higher threshold (I think it’s 75, if I remember correctly, as opposed to 59 for everything else), which is its own cause for debate. And television often only has scores for first seasons of shows unless the show is getting a lot of hype (like Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad), so something like Supernatural has only one score for its first season, despite being a cult hit for over a decade now, because not enough critics reviewed those latter seasons of shows like this for it to get a score.

There's actully quite a few albums on this list that I like: If Not Now When (Incubus): Yes, it's very slow paced, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Most of the melodies on the album are incredible, it has some of the strongest and most emotional ballads they've ever written. The atmosphere is also quite meloncholic. Sure, the production is a bit too clean perhaps, but it works fine for the album. I Love You (The Neighborhood): Like John said, it has great atmosphere. It's just the right amount of eerie. I love the beachy, washed out guitars as well. Some of the choruses aren't the strongest, but it has plenty of other postive qualities. All the Right Reasons (Nickelback): Not a terrible album by any means. It's just a generic rock album at its core. But I have a soft spot for Nickelback, mostly for nostalgic reasons. Evolve (Imagine Dragons): It's got those huge, anthemic choruses that Imagine Dragons is known for, just with more electronics than the first two albums. A lot of people rag on them for it, but I really think they have a knack for conveying that grand and epic feel. Sure, they use this motif a lot, but that's just their style. They make arena rock. Hating Imagine Dragons for this is like hating a punk band for every song sounding "too punky." The album also has plenty of variety. I do have some issue, like the overly polished production. But overall it's a good album if you like Imagine Dragons. Results May Vary (Limp Bizkit): Call me crazy, but I actully quite like this album as well as Limp Bizkit. They're one of those bands that aren't meant to be taken super seriously. And according to most criticisms I've heard, people only seem to take issue with Fred Durst rather than the band as a whole. Yes, he's obnoxious and his lyrics are juvenile. But it's so over-the-top and kinda tongue-in-cheek. They have charm. It's a dumb and kinda goofy charm, but still charm none the less. Anyway, Results May Very is the closest they've come to writting a serious album. Just listen to Let Me Down, Lonely World, Build a Bridge, and you'll see what I mean.

Liz Phair's album has some very high reviews as well as some very low ones. Why Can't I is a great song
@clubfaist4 жыл бұрын
I agree, that album is certainly not her best album. But Extraordinary, Red Light Fever, Little Digger, HWC, and Why Can't I are really good songs that borderline save the record. Honestly that album gets a bit too much hate imo.

One More Light is a great album. But if your looking at it with a closed-minded outlook then it isn't a good Linkin Park album. But if you look at it as artists musically experimenting and being lyrically transparent about their lives, then it is a great chapter in LP's story.

It's almost like the entire industry and fanbase forgot that Linkin Park was always changing their sound since their junior album. I admit it wasn't good but Jesus Christ Angelic to the Core, St Anger and Chinese Democracy weren't even on the list.

I'm literally the only person on earth who doesn't hate Evolve by Imagine Dragons. While i will say it is their worst album, even worse than origins, but i like some of the songs. Walking the Wire, Whatever it Takes, Mouth of the River, and even Believer are songs that i like. But, i do see why it's here. To me, the song Yesterday automatically tanks the album by like 20%.

convinced Ashlee Simpson’s I Am Me was only included bc of the misogynistic hatred towards her at the time. critics took their dislike towards her out on her music, which was always top quality. would love to see you revisit it today.

I Love You by The Neighbourhood is in my Top-30 favourite albums of all time, sometimes I have no fucking clue what critics are smoking. It may not be someone's cup of tea, but the fact that general critical reception of this album was the same as Total Xanarchy's reception is just fucking insane

I was definitely caught off guard by Jagged Little Pill Acoustic being on the list. I can remember critics being rather “meh” about it, but I didn’t think it had gotten enough outright hate to give it THAT low of an average score. UNPOPULAR OPINION ALERT: I actually find JLP Acoustic to be more listenable than the original JLP. I know a lot of the rage and shock value is gone in the mellower acoustic versions, and that’s probably what originally drew a lot of people to Alanis. But I think the newer versions of songs like “Perfect” and “Forgiven” that were dark horse picks on the original are downright exquisite; I could barely stand the rough vocal takes on the originals. She was in a healthier place in 2005 and was looking back at the songs that launched her to super stardom with more introspection, and I guess folks were only interested in hearing her heartbroken and pissed off. I also thought the moment in “Ironic” where she subverts the expected rhyme with “knife” by changing the lyric to “meeting his beautiful husband” was hilarious.

I Love You by the Neighbourhood doesn't deserve this kind of slander- it's my #1 favorite album of all time and I even have the album art as a tattoo it was THAT much of a masterpiece. People afraid of the truth i guess
