It’s subhuman behavior. You gather around all of your friends, family, and those of your spouse at a giant ceremony. At the ceremony, you swear an oath to your god, your family, your friends, and your spouse that you will not betray them. Then you throw all of that down the drain whenever the opportunity presents itself, just so that you can feel a fun tingle in your genitals. If you’re willing to betray your spouse in that fashion for that small of a reward, then you will betray *anyone* for *any* reward. Get people like this out of your life, trust me.

However, I wouldn’t lump in “staying together for the kids” as a good example. My parents had an extremely toxic relationship but stayed together for me and honestly, I wish they’d divorced. That would have messed me up less than the constant fighting. I developed an anxiety disorder because of it. i think in terms of celebrities, cheating is not something "cancellable". Yeah, it's a huge personal mistake (and Dave already has a history of it in the mid-to-late 90s as far as we know) , and yeah, his family is in a tough situation because of the huge mistake, but at the same time, as a fan, it really is just something personal among his family. I know of course he posted about it, but he likely did that just so he could before TMZ posted about it. if he just makes shitty choices in his personal life (as opposed to being racist, queerphobic, an abuser, etc.), i don't think it should really affect his career
@slyppery7923Ай бұрын
Plenty you can do. Listen to music made by decent people. A lot of musicians have done really shitty things... so we can choose to not go to their shows or listen to their music. (Dave definitely doesn''t fall into that category for something like this but that's just my personal take based on context) When you separate the art from the artist you don't have any artistic value anymore, its just a meaningless noise that happens to sound cool. It's definitely your choice how you enjoy art, but you're "consuming entertainment" as opposed to "listening to art" if you completely ignore who made it and why. There is bad art. Worst part is, some of it sounds great.
@Kenny-mccormick19Ай бұрын
@@slyppery7923 Dave Grohl isn't necessarily a bad person, but I do think it's wrong he cheated two times. At least he owned up to it. That being said, whilst it's true that some musicians and celebrities are good people, even they make mistakes and have questionable opinions. Even back in the old school days, some of the most iconic musicians of all time have some allegations against them or happen to be terrible people, yet it doesn't affect their work at all.
@slyppery7923Ай бұрын
@@Kenny-mccormick19 It did affect their work though. Artists like Elvis or Bob Dylan who get dragged for things like having questionable relationships with minors, always had some tone of perversion or guilt or lust or pride in their music and the way they carried themselves. Usually an unhealthy dose. This affects the listener and the way they interpret music forever, in various ways. And thats only one category of "shitty things artists have done" its an entire spectrum. Anywho off that note I entirely agree with what you've to say about Dave, still a great dude at heart, who's made some great music. But this very shitty (repeated) behavior definitely needs to be taken into account when viewing the way he's developed as a person, and how it applies to what he's actually been feeling, saying and writing about over time.
@Kenny-mccormick19Ай бұрын
@@volutedmetal8543 I actually can't stand cancel culture. Even though I'm not defending Dave Grohl's actions, he is human like the rest of us, meaning that he is going to make mistakes and mess things up like the rest of us. After Taylor died, others came forward saying he had called them that night reaching out for help, he even called the front desk at the hotel for help, and I wondered where was Dave? After all, they were on tour and would have been staying in the same hotel that night. And why haven't we heard from him if Taylor had reached out to him? Right then, I knew Grohl couldn't be who he portrays. I didn't know why or the extent,but I did know something was off with him. (By That I Mean most people would never reveal this kind of thing by themselves) Unlike a certain female vocalist this week that that didn’t do that.

Imagine, a rock star being unfaithful. Infidelity is in their wedding vows.

He only posted that because he knew it was gonna come out anyway. He might’ve well get in front of it, and pretend like it was his choice

What can I say, he had another confession to make, but at least he'll stick around. Love dies young anyways. He is In Bloom but not in Blum anymore, if you know what I mean.

Why would he straight up admit this on social media unprompted? Did he think the public would just forgive him for his honesty or something?

I assume he wanted to break the news himself rather than risk the tabloids breaking it for him

As of yesterday evening, 09/10/2024 is the day DG officially had the title of The Nicest Guy In Rock revoked. Dude, when the Instagram post popped in my Facebook feed via one of the Foo Fighters groups I'm in, I was confused at first and to see if it was legitimate and I wasn't trippin', I Googled it and sure enough, the sight of the multiple articles verified it. Up until that point, I was not even aware Dave had a solo account, let alone for a book he published. So to see that was quite the not on my bingo card moment of 2024. Especially since it remained inactive for a few years up until that post...

I don't condone what he did because you're absolutely correct. Cheating is garbage especially when married with a family. I think it's at least somewhat admirable that he's owning up to what he's done and taking responsibility for this kiddo. I don't know, man. We shall see..
@davidmatheny1993Ай бұрын
I will start by saying this comment is in no way defending him. However, I will say two main things: 1. If he is genuine in wanting to change and make amends, taking responsibility for the kid and his actions is a start.He was also willing to accept the public backlash of not keeping it private. There's no telling how many famous people have tried to cover stuff like that up. 2. If we see how broken our families and society can be, then why do people seek or expect perfection from their role models? You will always find disappointment because every last person you know has done or said something they regret.

Side note: If it helps someone understand how I took the perspective of #1, my biological father left before I was born and denied I was his. Then, when the man I always knew as my father sought to adopt me, the other guy said he wouldn't sign off unless my mom never told me who he was.

People need to get over celebrity worship. This really shouldn't matter to anyone outside of the individuals involved. Like, his family will be concerned about attention from the public, but they shouldn't have to because its bizarre people care this much about a stranger's personal life. Admire his talent and creativity. But seriously, if you honestly feel really strongly about this ... you cared too much in the first place. Yes, people cheat and its fine to have an opinion on that. If it happens to you or a loved one, by all means, thats a normal thing to be affected by. But a musician's love child?... There are way more important things to worry about.

Not even a Foo Fighters fan but he seemed like a nice person… I’d be very sad if someone I listened to did this (Which is sadly likely)
@DanniDerpyАй бұрын
it sucks that he had to admit this to the entire internet because we know that if he didnt some tabloid or leaker would do it for him. this is exactly the kind of thing that should stay private between him and his family, we arent married to them! im sure the last thing his kids and wife want was to be publicly embarrassed all over the internet, damn social media age taking an awful thing and making it 10 times worse
@jordansantos7226Ай бұрын
It’s good that he admitted what he did but now I’m feeling torn on what to do. Unsure if I can listen to any of his music. Also I don’t like it when people use “problematic” and “unproblematic” to describe celebrities because at the end of the day, they still tend to do shitty things like every other human being

@cognitivedissonance8406Ай бұрын
How I feel about this is yeah it sucks that Dave cheated, but honestly it isn’t anyone’s business except between him and his loved ones. We are so quick to condemn every problematic action in this day and age, and sometimes that is absolutely warranted. Holding people responsible for their immoral behavior when abuse, especially abuse of power when accountability is unlikely, is an excellent thing communities can do, including the online community. And when someone does what Dave did, it is understandable that people who idolized him are disappointed (though I would argue it’s dangerous to idolize any human being). But the truth is countless people have done what Dave has done and have had to deal with the consequences and the fallout in their personal life. If accountability is held, that is all that should be expected of anyone who hurts others through selfish actions. But Dave is a public figure, and he knows how our culture reacts. When he posted his simple statement regarding the matter, he ended with a plea to leave the children alone. That made me truly sad, because I don’t believe this needs to be a public matter at all, it should be between Dave and his family. But knowing the internet, Dave understood he had no choice but to address this publicly and ask for simple respect and decency for himself and his loved ones which everyone deserves, even people with moral failings, unless they have committed crimes or perpetrated abuse, which as far as we know Dave has not.

This whole situation really displays how we should never treat celebrities or artists like gods, because people fuck up. I'll take solace in knowing he wasn't exposed as an abuser and plans to take care of this newborn but that's how low the bar is, because cheating is never ok, especially if you're married and with children.
