What are your thoughts on this? I know the Nitro fans out there will refuse to accept this but its true. We dont see any good new nitro releases as RC companies know electric is way more popular these days. Its a shame as I do enjoy nitro but the ease of electric makes it so much more appealing especially to beginners! See you on the next one! 👍

I want to spend some money and I was thinking about buying a New Clodbuster because I have a desire to build a kit. Donʻt get me wrong, I do have several electric Tamiya kits to build, but there is also Nitro running through my veins. Like mentioned in this video there are less and less nitro kits available these days. With that said, I have been buying up as much RC10 GTs that I can find locally. Running nitro is what the HOBBY IS ABOUT. Tinkering and tuning is THE HOBBY and NITRO is addicting. I collected all the parts I need to build a NITRO RC10 GT drag car and that will be my next build. Thank you for posting the video, so much FUEL to feed my desire.

I left the hobby over a decade ago because I got too frustrated with nitro. I got back into it over a year ago with electric. I miss the sound and even the smell from nitro RCs, but I admit I don't miss the hassle and fuss with them. I like to tinker and mod my RCs, but electrics have enough to work on without worrying about an engine. But kudos to anyone who sticks with nitros! I love to see them whenever I attend an RC meetup.

Dude, the biggest positive issue with nitro IS the sound! It’s true about all the advancements that electric has come into. Yet the pure feeling of satisfaction when getting that tune “just right” and then either racing or just teaching your son, or daughter, how to go Nitro is an enormous satisfaction indeed!!! Of course I began with electric. And I’d bet at least 75% of us all did the same. But once you get that bug, it’s all over with…🥰🥰🥰

Electrics have come a LONG way over the last decade. I had to stop with the hobby back around 2011 or so to take care of a sick family member. At that point LiPo batteries were still relatively new, expensive, somewhat hazardous in the hands of someone who didn't know what they were doing, and the models in general sucked. I'm talking planes and helis in addition to cars. Nitro and gassers were still the power of choice. These days, even though part of me still likes nitro, electrics really are the way to go. The technology and the quality of the models/components have VASTLY improved, costs have come way down, and the one thing I don't miss about running nitro is cleaning up all the mess.

I enjoy both. There are days where the instant gratification of installing a battery and going is good. Then there are days where you want to be responsible for how your RC performs. Part of the hobby of nitro is building your mechanical skills and the satisfaction you get when you get things right. The smoke and the noise also adds to the experience.

Nitro is just a lot more exciting to me. Everytime I run the Tmaxx in campground/public place bystanders are always super interested in it and many don't even know about nitro. Would be super cool to have a comeback with nitro. Maybe when people are bored of electric they could market nitro as a "new" loud, smoky, high revving alternative. People today don't have the patience to learn nitro and see how awesome it is. If anything 1/5 scale gas will continue becuase they are a lot easier to get into. It's ironic how in full size cars the car guys trash on electric, but with rc most like electric!

I actually don't mind the need to tinker with the engine, tune it, and all the effort involved... It's worth the effort. The thing that kills nitro for me is how there's basically nowhere for me to legally drive one. At parks people will complain about the noise and smell, in the neighborhood roads people will complain about the noise. The fumes prevent the vehicle from being driven indoors or at indoor tracks, and the only 3 outdoor RC tracks within 2 hours of my location all explicitly prohibit nitros. If I bought a nitro, it would be a glorified model car, collecting dust on my shelf indefinitely. I imagine as time goes on nitros will likely be even harder to legally drive as the world moves away from gasoline-powered everything to mass-adopt electric-powered everything... I love nitros, I love the feedback you get from driving one, I love the mechanical-ness of it all, I love nitros, but they are just not worth the inconvenience of having to drive 5+ hours to the nearest place that allows nitros as someone with an actual job and obligations, especially knowing that the nearest nitros-permitted track is just a single noise ordinance law or noise complaint away from having to implement a "no nitros" rule like the rest of the RC tracks I go to.

You're on the money! I love nitro and I originally got into the hobby because of the sound and smell and because I like tinkering on engines, however the thing stopping me from taking part in the hobby nowadays is that there's nowhere nearby where I live where I can run it without people getting their bee in a bonnet about it, esp with environmental concerns these days (wish those people would get mad at the roads covered in SUVs that'll never go off-road than 1 tiny microengine). It's just not worth the hassle. I do hope however the RC industry doesn't give up on engines completely, I would like to see experimentation with efuels in RC.

My only experience was with a cheap HSP Nitro, it was a right pain in the arse to get it running smoothly consistently but for the 5 tanks of fuel you get to burn through before the 2-speed transmission stripped again or the 4th pullstart cord snapped it was a lot of fun. I just sold it recently after getting a V5 Typhon and haven't looked back. Now instead of burning fuel it burns tyres and money.

It's nice just being able to charge a battery in 20-30 minutes and go. It doesn't matter if its hot or cold. When you hear stories of hobby store employees dissuading customers from buying nitro, or when you have companies that make zero attempt to build new nitro, or when r/c sites/mags like rccaraction refuse to talk about nitro, and when you get lazy hobbyists you get a dying breed. It's even hard to find kits these days, that's how lazy so many in this hobby have gotten. Electric has been around forever, this is nothing new. Nitro, even if it's getting less support, offers more fun than electric ever could. Yes electric is easier and potentially faster, but nitro has always been more fun for me. You can run nitro solo and it feels like the car is alive, you run electric and you don't anywhere near the same sensation. I currently own a HPI Nitro RS4 2, Nitro RS4 3, Savage SS all of which are fully modified, Xray T4, Xray XT2, and I have an Arrma Felony roller coming any day now simply because BittyDesign released a Viper body (body is called VPR). I would've never bought an Arrma if it wasn't for my favorite car body being available. I would love for HPI to release or re-release a Super Nitro RS4 or a 4WD gas buggy/stadium truck. There is a new company called Sparko Racing that is going to introduce new nitro vehicles, but it also takes customers to support it. I've been eyeing Xray NT1s, but I need to get my money right because that is definitely going to be expensive. It also doesn't help when a few of the existing top engine manufacturers like OS want to charge a ridiculous $500+ an engine. Electric is not cheap by any means, but there's no reason for a quality engine to be above $200 but it seems like they're trying to match market prices between the two (motor, esc, batteries, charger vs engine).
@parker1ray
@parker1ray Жыл бұрын
I started my RC career with a Savage 21 and do agree and that is why I own 6 mostly Arrma to include Felony, Kratan, granite, and Typhon all 6S except the Granite. I will say however, that the old nitro cars were a blast when tuned and running good!

@Griso12008V
@Griso12008V 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah the clutch shoes, springs and clutch bearings do wear out. You can tune how much delay and the harshness of engagement of the clutch with different spring rates and shoe weight. The lighter the spring or heavier the shoe the lower the RPM needed to engage. This makes for a smoother engagement for low traction but can bog the engine. On the other end light shoes and or heavy spring can engage at a higher rpm but it’s going to come on with a hard punch not so great in low traction conditions.

I think the biggest draw back on nitro these days is noise, people dont like to here these things wipping around. With electric people are more forgiving, a lot of the time they dont even realise your their running an rc car as they dont tend to hear the electric cars much at all. Besides the obvious where you need to be pretty experieced with nitro engine running /tuning, electric is so easy & more reliable in comparison where you only have to plug a battery in & go.

When i got in, electric wasn't ready for prime time. Battery packs were nicd just moving into nimh, they wore down fast and you had to have new ones for big races.. so to go run for an hour nitro was the only way. But nitro was fussy, messy, loud (for neighborhoods), and required lots of tinkering and support equipment (starter boxes, glowplug igniters, temp guns, etc.). My electric car even back then.. slap in the battery and go.. slows down, battery swap, start charging, keep going. Today I can run 40-50 minutes without swapping batts. And they're faster. Also no local hobby shops to buy nitro fuel...

Electric is way easier to maintain and work on. Nitro takes some skills and knowledge to tune, repair and maintain. Today most people don't want to learn or can't learn to use nitro. I started off with electric RC and l do love them. I bought my first Nitro, Traxxas Revo 3.3, about 2 years ago and love it. I am an old gear head and built and raced cars from teen to now. As an old man I love sitting in my garage at my work bench and just modding the hell out mine. That first Revo I bought now has locking diffs from the Traxxas Summit. After that you have the next evolution of electric or nitro racing. Everything is so disposable these days. You should go back to building kits and nitro. Your not wrong. Nitro definitely isn’t the first choice for most of the hobby. More maintenance, more preparation, price of fuel, more knowledge needed, and of course the noise. Most people don’t have a place to run a nitro in the neighborhood. Oddly people don’t complain about the noise of all the lawn equipment, but break out the nitro and some is going to whine about it. Electric is easy, less work, no break in, quiet, and far more capable in a small package. I just got back into the hobby about 2 years ago. I used to run nitro way back because they were way better and could run longer, with faster speed. Yet in the last 20 years electric motors and lipo batteries have advanced way beyond small 2 strokes. Still love the song of a well tuned pipe and the smell of petrol burning in the morning 😂

It would make a comeback of they come up with a EFI version with lots of aftermarket parts backing it up. They should redesign it so it can take boost. Superchargers, turbos, and nitrous, then somebody needs to make a no prep drag version of a nitro car and with power adders in place. Let's let her rip.

In the plane and heli world, nitro wins on run time, but with RC cars you can have the same performance or better with nearly double the run time on electrics.

I am a nitro guy, but I have many electric also. Less work and instant gratification is why electric is more popular in the newer generation. I tend to fiddle more with carburetors, than with nonsense on my phone. Its very sad to me that the newcomers to the hobby arent interested in nitro. Most shops near me dont even have any nitros on display anymore. When I bring my nitro to the park, people have no idea what I'm doing and ask many questions.

I'm new to the hobby, and getting a nitro hasn't even crossed my mind. Previous commentors are right, people out enjoying a walk don't want to hear it, I speak from experience. I live in a national park, and legally, you cannot run any internal combustion engine within the park. Electric are fine.

Its a common issue a lot of us face. Having actual places where these sorts of cars and 1/5 petrol's are actually welcomed. Certainly not in almost all parks in the UK. Electric causes no issues to anyone and walkers/Dog walkers are not usually offended.

I had my carnage ftx out today after a year! Lol no brake's, constantly needs tuning, but WHEN I run it I always enjoy it, AHH the heat melting the body and the sickly smell gets up the nose and can smell nitro fuel for hours after, the neighbours giving me dirty looks because of the noise and the glow ignition battery going flat because I couldn't keep the b......d running!!! You gotta love em thanks for your upload mate 👍🙏🐱

The absolute biggest advantage of Electric over Nitro is noise. You can you literally take your Electric RC where ever you want whereas with Nitro you often get people complaining about the noise.

For me is exactly the opposite, I don't like electrics because there's no noise, well... there is the gear grinding noise, which is terrible.

I recently got into this hobby and I went straight with the top of the line. I got the Losi 5t 2.0 gas as my first rc and it’s amazing! I really want to try nitro. I’ve tried my friends arrma infraction and it was actually fun to drive. I think I will get both electric and nitro to enjoy the best of all worlds.

Nitro is experiencing a bit of a comeback in the US. Yes, we still see a lot of electrics. But a lot of people are picking up a nitro car coming from electrics because it's a more visceral r/c experience.

my very first, hobby grade, RC was nitro back around 1995. nitro is awesome because its nitro and it takes more skill and knowledge. it really gives you a sense of accomplishment. electric is awesome because they are fucking nuts and you can just grab it and go, even if its been sitting for 5 years. now that im a full blown adult and own many other things with engines i dont feel the need to have another in my RC hobby. i already spend enough time fucking with engines and i need a hobby where i dont need to. luckily i feel like the benefits of electric outweigh the benefits of electric when it comes to RC

I agree with you. I just got to the hobby 3 months ago. I own two electric cars and I have no interest and nitro whatsoever. It's too much tuning and tinkering. I've already started modifying my electric cars so there's plenty for me to do. And I don't have to buy gas. All I have to do is plug it into the wall wait 45 minutes and go. That's why I bring two or three batteries out with me when I go bashing.

I seen comments on here and one that stood out was about a fuel injected motor. That would most def bring nitro back. These days people want things with minimal work. I get it and i do own nitro as well as electrics. Electrics are for when u have a busy day but you have the itch to rc. Nitros are more HOBBY based. Electric is awesome dont get me wrong but the gearheads prefer nitro due to constant wrenching. I enjoy wrenching/fixing them as much as i do running them. The satisfaction is the same on instant torque (electric) and dialing an engine (nitro) for me. Love both but i hope nitro makes a come back even tho its sad to say it probably wont.

the reason I went for electric is the enormous cost of the fuel. Where I live, 1l of 15% nitromethan fuel is about 18 bucks, and thats just too much, considering how cheap you can charge a battery.

The sad thing is, here in Northeastern Ohio We only have a few RC shops nearby. So I called a couple to see if they have any parts for nitros. I was looking for a pull start and perhaps a short course truck body... 1/8 scale Bodies are becoming a pain to find. Anyways, each store I contacted I was treated as if I was lesser significant and/or like I was crazy.. one sales rep almost seemed like he didn't know what the hell I was talking about. Like he never heard of Nitro powered RC's.. Another told me "get with the times man.." 😶😠 One thing is for certain, you can't beat that sound and aesthetics. When I went to the park, I brought two of my now "vintage" Redcat Legacy models, The Terramoto V2 1/8 and the Aftershock 3.5 Nitro. When I started driving my Terramoto, a few kids were like wow look at that big RC.. But it really didn't start getting crazy until I got my Aftershock Nitro out, Then I got a lot of bystanders watching and asking questions. A few of them were even looking at it like it was some kind of museum piece but weren't saying a word. 😅
