Comfort is a highly individual thing. Chairs are like shoes. What is perfect for one person's feet can be a nightmare for another person's feet. And while you can be lucky and find the perfect fit on first try-on, usually it takes a while sitting in a chair to work out whether it works for your body. That's why a good return policy is critical.

To avoid the leg fatigue under my thighs I use the forward tilt function along with a foot riser to reduce the pressure. I’m seated usually 6-9 hrs a day. Also the Atlas headrest was a great investment. Reclining to meditate in this chair is amazing!

I have the same pain which makes it unusable for me. Which foot riser did you buy? The foam ones or adjustable ones?
@kylelangley8818
@kylelangley8818 11 ай бұрын
@@Mete897 Yes I purchased a foam foot riser. Goal here is elevating the height of the knees. The lower your thighs rest the more your thighs may bury into the plastic edge of the seat, causing the leg fatigue sensation. Height of the foam is dependent on your preference. So I can’t suggest a brand. You can try stacking books 📚 under your feet to gauge how high you want your foot foam cushion to be. Hope this helps.

I have old and new Aerons side by side and one issue for me with the new one is that the mesh is noticeable more stretchy I can feel the plastic edges more on the seat and on the top of the back (even my older aerons are about 8 years old). I was not sure if it was expected, checked local store and indeed, it was firmer. I requested a replacement for these parts and it became better (maybe my first one had some defective part), but still not as firm as the old one. 2nd issue, seat on the C size has sharper edge under the legs, smaller models have smoother edge. I though it was some kind of defect, but found the same thing in the local store.

Despite what people say I absolutely love my Aeron. I am lucky in the sense that I am a good size for my size chair, meaning I don’t experience a lot of the issues people bring up with the plastic frame against my legs etc. As for the chair deciding how you sit, it’s like being on a diet. A diet doesn’t say eat healthy when you feel like it and eat a bunch of junk when you feel like it. This chair forces you to sit in a way that will repair your posture and lead to better comfort/less need to reposition yourself over time. That being said if you are not the right “shape” for this chair and are experiencing pains and annoyances then you should definitely just get a different chair. If you are thinking about trying it don’t let bad experiences seem like the norm. This is not the chair for everyone but if it IS the chair for you then you will love it. Try it for yourself and take advantage of that return period!
@btodtv
@btodtv 2 жыл бұрын
I think a lot of people would agree with you and also love the Aeron. I like the way you look at the diet and your chair. The only problem is that is exactly how people diet :) But sitting in good posture is the best way to go long term. Also getting out of the chair when you can to move around or just stand is also a great way to have a better sitting experience. Just sit less! -GK

When you have to sit in 1 position for 8hours that is not healthy. Which is why he said he can't use it since he can't cross their legs or whatever. I'm a bit smaller at 5'9 then the host so I can still cross but it is hard. Eitherway the human body isnt meant to be kept in a static position and the host is 100% spot on for many this isn't a good chair. I can already hear people saying 'well stand for a few minutes' but don't understand a temporary movement to 'work around' the problem is not a solution. I did get a H.Miller chair (or something very similar) like this at an old office and seemed it was like the XL Aeron where because it was larger crossing legs was easy for someone my size.
@frogturtle
@frogturtle 2 жыл бұрын
@@JohnAdams-qc2ju well, you aren’t really stuck in one static position per say. The chair is more of a teacher than a straight jacket. There’s a general position “encouraged” by the chair but I still rock back and forth, fold one leg over the other, tuck one leg in, move my shoulders and arms…there’s plenty of movement and positions in the Aeron. It’s true that sitting criss-cross feels terrible but personally I have never wanted to sit that way in any chair. Sitting in any chair for 8 hours is probably unhealthy and you should stand up periodically no matter what. And I would say standing is better for circulation than sitting criss-cross but I’m no doctor. Just my personal opinion though, like you and BTOD I’m just speaking from my own experience. If someone is uncomfortable in the Aeron or if it’s just not for them then by all means explore the many other great chairs out there!

I fell into the category of disliking the Aeron. I've been using a Gesture at work for 5 yrs and love it in the sense that I have zero aches or pains. It's just a chair that I can sit for 8-10hrs and not even think about it. Working more from home I decided to splurge on a chair and wanted to try something new so I tested out the Aeron and Embody 'in-store' for about 30mins each...and liked the Aeron more. However after buying and using it for 5 days, I just couldn't take it. At 5'10'' 145lbs sz B, I guess the mesh padding didn't 'mesh' well with my sit bones or something. I could not find a comfortable position. So just booked another Gesture. It's so subjective that you really just have to try it out for a few days to see if it is the right fit.

@jeffreytaipei7907
@jeffreytaipei7907 2 жыл бұрын
@@nikita2560 At home and the office there is A/C for temp regulation so I never felt 'hot spots' or felt the Gesture made my body temp rise. Of course if I didn't have A/C during hotter months, I'm sure I would get hot on any chair since I do tend to get sweaty quickly. But it should be noted the perceived 'heat' is so varied that it would be hard to compare person to person. I really think that testing any chair out is the only way to go especially at these price points.

I've had my Aeron Remastered for about 8 weeks. I sit on it around 10+ hours per day. I'm 5'6 and 140lbs and have the size B. It is the perfect fit for me. I love the recline which I use occasionally, because to keep my back happy I need to sit with the backrest locked in straight and both legs on the floor. The arm rest adjustability is fantastic. I have the left much lower than the right because my desk is slightly higher than it should be so my right arm can be level with the desk as I use the mouse. I shift my weight and body to the left when I read stuff off a screen to my left and that's when the lower arm rest adjustment comes into play. The soft padding of the arm rests is also perfect since my arms or elbows do rest on them a lot. I agree that the inflexible seat frame is a bit of downer for those of us who like to sit with one or both legs on top at times. I can still do that, but it's not that comfortable because the hard plastic frame is , well, a bit too hard for comfort. The back support also works well for me. Sometimes I need it more firmly adjusted and at other times more loose. Easily achieved. On the whole, this chair will be with me for a very long time, so it was a good investment though at first a bit expensive. My health and productivity deserves the best support and this chair delivers. It also looks cool. 9/10. Would have been a 10/10 if it had softer seat frame :)

While I love my Remastered Aeron, I felt this was a well-crafted critique. I'm 5'6", 148 lbs, and I've had no issues with the frame digging into either my knees or my shoulders, but I do think that it can be rigid, and can make you uncomfortable if you don't sit with good ergonomic form, which can be annoying when I'm in the mood to cross my legs. Such rigidity made me pick up a HÅG Capisco just so I could experience a chair that has the complete opposite ergonomic philosophy. After using the Capisco for about two weeks I went back to the Aeron as my daily driver - it's just way more comfortable to sit in for longer sessions - but during periods when I want to be more creative, or I happen to be more fidgety that day,l I'll often switch out the Aeron for the more dynamic Capisco.

I recently bought a replacement office chair. Tried several in a day. It only took me a minute sitting in an Aeron to make me realize its not for me. I couldn't stand the sides of the seat pan curving up. Very uncomfortable for me. Many times I like to lean back and cross my legs and that's almost impossible on this chair. I also tried the Leap V2 and Amia and ended up going with the Amia. Best chair I've ever owned.

Interesting analysis, exactly what i found. I tried the aeron and tried its recline function and instantly felt like it wasn't special, the recline wasn't that comfortable and the hard plastic sides are death if you have big thighs. I then tried the Humanscale liberty and omg, the recline function was superb, the way it hugs your back is amazing (IMO), I bought both the Steelcase Amia and Humanscale Freedom eventually and love them both. Amia has a lumbar adjuster which doesnt always stay put and the freedom, well, for a chair that was developed in the late 90s, its image and comfort levels have held up though im not too fond of its arms (will need to try 4d arms next time)

I personally love the Aeron but I can understand the love/hate relationship people have with it. Transitioning to WFH with the pandemic my lower back was hurting constantly due to my cheap chair. Standing more wasn't fixing it so I decided to invest in a higher end chair. I tried the steelcase leap, herman miller embody, ergochair 2, and the aeron in that order. Ultimately I went with the aeron as even after one day of sitting my back pain was gone! The leap was my second favorite but it just didn't sit upright enough. I'm shorter at 5.5 and 150 so the Aeron fit me just fine. I am able to sit cross legged in it and feel like i can move my legs around decently, but I agree other chairs will be more forgiving. That said I may pick up another chair here shortly as well, I think most people would do well with having multiple chairs to go between, because none are perfect.

I used an Aeron remastered for about two years and it was always comfortable for a couple hours, but the lower back support was just too strict to use all day. If I dialed out the posture fit the mesh stayed firm on the sides and dug into my love handles. I was so eager to get out of the chair after 6 hours and it was hard to complete a work day. 5'9" and 180lbs in a size B, so the fit seemed right. I had maybe a dozen other office chairs but my back was getting progressively worse. Earlier this week, I had to sit on another chair for just one evening while I exchanged the piston on my Aeron, and I was in so much pain that I was wincing. I mean, spending $1,500 is tough in general, but it's tougher when I don't know if I'll actually end up liking the product after some time. The rep I talked to at the store said that I can return it for any reason after 14 days, so that's at least something. Hi Ryan. I’m deciding whether to get a Size B or C. The official size chart shows I’m a size B - 170cm/62kg. The Size B seat fits me just nice with not much extra space but B’s backrest seems to be “too fitting” to my back, as I can somehow feel both sides of the frame at the narrowest part of the backrest (somewhere near armrests area), although the salesperson assured me that my body is still within the mesh by appearance and not touching the frame. Size C is of course wider overall, but the lumbar support is less ‘intense’ compared to B. Which size suits me more?

And all I've used is a wooden dining chair or I just sit on the floor I've never purchased any chair that costs so much. But I don't mind about the money I just want it to be worth it. I'm the type of person that moves alot in my chair when im working or focusing on something or even when im gaming whenever I have the time for it. I don't know why but I really switch in multiple positions in the span of an hour I might've went through cross leg, straight 90, hunch back, flat out and hugging my legs etc So I do know that these chairs are to force you into a very healthy position but is there a chair that feels comfortable even if you're in any other position? I also think a chair that has a good recline and rocking motion would really suit me because of my hyper movement so that could be a factor to upon for me. A headrest is optional but I tend to think that stress will be added onto my next if there isn't a head rest. I was thinking of getting the Aeron but when i learned that seat isn't the type where it can move I was cautious, the leap v2 looks really nice but I don't know if it'll suit me Because of the rocking and recline test seems to be minimal. The gesture seems to fit the most flexible and economical category but how's the recline and rocking? I've also had my eye on a more cheaper option like the Neue chair or is it called the Triiger? I would also love to know more about this chair because not many have talked about it and you guys have the best reviews! Thank you if you do see this!

Why are you sitting on it with your heels off the floor? It's interesting that you don't find the lumbar support pronounced. I am the same height (although less weight) and I can dial it in so hard that I will fell like its pushing me out of the chair. I am thinking of downgrading back to sayl from Aeron because sittiing in Aeron feels like a workout either for legs/thighs or spine however I adjust it :(

You are one of the most honest and transparent channels I've come across in youtube and, believe me, I consume a lot of content on this platform. You could just say how amazingly perfect the Aeron is and sell tons of them, but instead you provide us with all of this useful information so we can truly find the chair that truly suit us best. You even go as far as putting your own chair in the lower ranks of the tier list that you make (which only honors you even more). It was because of you that I bought the steelcase Leap V2 (I live in Europe so I couldn't get it from you, unfortunatly) and I've never looked back. Love my Leap and I'm so grateful you help me find it! Even thought I don't need to purchase any more chairs I still enjoy watching your great content! Keep it up and don't ever lose the honesty and passion with which you review chairs. You truly are making the world a better place (and our backs will be eternally grateful to you).

I absolutely loved my Aeron... for half hour at a time. I would get butt pain (on the sides) after half hour and it would only increase until I basically had to get out of it. Doing a 2/3 hour sitting session was extremely painful. I endured it for close to 2 weeks to see if perhaps it was my body adjusting.. it wasnt. Returned it for an Embody. Embody was even worse.. but in a different spot, the sacrial, I couldnt even endure half hour on it, also returned it. Sadly my old chair is falling apart and I still need an alternative :/

Thanks for the helpful vid. I am curious - what size chair is that? From afar, it looks a bit on the smaller side for you. Did you try the next size up? Maybe I am wrong, but that could change the way you are able to move in the chair. Do let me know, if you can, as I am really interested in getting this chair for me. By the way, I currently have the very affordable Modway Articulate Mesh Office Chair, which was $152 when I bought it in Feb., 2021, but it is very limited in many ways; and I have actually tried the Aeron in the HM store and found it quite comfortable and impressive with all of its features, especially the recline tension which you accurately describe as similar to a rocking chair.

The chair in the video is a size B. I have used the size C. We have a few here. The problem for me with the size C is that it is quite a bit deeper in the seat compared to the B, so it is a bit too big for me there. I do like the extra width in the seat and the larger backrest on the C though. I think I am probably in between sizes for the perfect fit with the seat depth. -RB

Yes. Lack of seat depth adjustment is a HUGE miss. Like WTF. Even sub $400 chairs have seat depth adjustment. Makes no sense to me. Herman Miller will say this is why they have B and C seat size options. But come on. There are many people who otherwise fit fine in a B sized chair but must go with a size C seat that is oversized in all other areas.

What is odd about this product and this channel is most of the hosts rave about the HM Aeron and have it at or near the top of their lists but then a video like this gets posted saying “I cannot use this chair for 8hours a day” wait what??? All the other reviews from this channel have the HM Aeron as a top premium product that you cannot go wrong with. I’m just baffled and I’m not baffled easily. In my humble opinion, It makes me think that the only reason the negative aspects are pointed out is because the host on this channel get to use so many products that small things that may not stick out to other users with limited exposure to high end chairs, stick out to them.

Bought a full featured one with all the options. $1900 dollars. I received it today. I also wanted to love it too but I hate it and am returning it. I bought a C size chair and since the seat will not slide forward or back you need to fit the chair. I don't fit the chair and the seat frame digs into my thighs. I love all of the adjustments and the recline motion is a dream. I wish they added an adjustment of the seat depth because then it would probably fix the issue of the frame digging into my thighs. Sitting in it was painful and I tried every possible sitting position but it was just awful. The hard outside edge make it impossible to get comfortable. It's like being tortured. The Aeron is an iconic but ultimately frustrating chair. It is too rigid, particularly in the seat. There are many chairs that allow more freedom of movement in the legs while still providing very firm support in different positions. I do like that the arms of the Aeron are cantilevered from the back. However, given that you can’t sit sideways in the chair even briefly given the side bolsters, the design of the arms isn’t that useful. Lastly, didn’t they reduce the adjustability of the tilt limiter with the remastered Aeron? My impression is that it used to be infinitely adjustable, and now it only has 3 adjustments. That’s very disappointing. Meanwhile, the only padded chair that I know of to incorporate its more sophisticated paddle “tilt-limiter” adjustments (which I agree are better than tilt-locking mechanisms) are found on the ludicrously expensive Taper Chair from Herman Miller (by way of Geiger). As someone who is probably slightly outside the 5th to 95th percentile range that Herman Miller is aiming to accommodate, I’m quite dismayed by the offerings of some of the bigger design manufacturers in North America. I would advise anyone in a similar situation to look at companies that still offer padded seats (e.g. Nightingale, ergoCentric, Soma Ergonomics, Sitomatic, Neutral Posture, and, in Europe, constituents of the Flokk group such as RH and Hag). The arms and frame of a chair should not impede changes in position, as this is bad for circulation. This is my opinion as a layperson in the ergonomics field. If anyone has similar issues with the seemingly regressive mesh seats so in vogue today, please advise. In general, much as it chagrins me to say this, there is more innovation in the ergonomic seating space occurring in Europe and Japan than in the US. It is a shame, and I hope that these foreign companies can make inroads in the North American market. In any case, this was a good review and I completely agree with your observations on the Aeron.

I absolutely hate my herman miller aeron. Biggest waste of money. The single biggest problem is it is a massive dust trap. Something reviewers seem to ignore. Because the seat is like a cheese grader. It has zero neck support unless you want to pay an additional $160 for some third party. No way to lock the wheels, very limited lumbar support. Reviewer nails it here @2:45, has destroyed my legs. The warranty is useless. The chances of you ever breaking a chair are slim to none.
