Exactly. People were mad at HoTD for a forced action moment. And the season is in the can. Not like this is snl and they can whip up an episode to piggyback on the momentum of a standalone episode
@KyleOfTheBeard2 жыл бұрын
Grace, I definitely think they needed to kill the guy who Ellie shot; he tried to kill Joel and also could’ve given the Kansas City group specifics on them both. With him dead, Joel and Ellie still have the upper hand with the element of surprise and the fact that no one knows who they are, what they look like, and how equipped they are (other than what they found in the truck).
@system0fadowner2512 жыл бұрын
Exactly. There's no way they could trust him, and it was way too big a risk. This was a great ep for developing Joel and Ellies kinship, and I really enjoyed the humor, but I agree with Grace that they should've spent a little more time introducing these new characters and given us a bit more to maintain hype. It felt like the entire ep was just set up for what im sure will be insanity next week. Hunters, Henry, Sam, and a bloater all about to collide.
@KyleOfTheBeard2 жыл бұрын
@@system0fadowner251 it felt very much like a part one of a two-part section of the story. Honestly was surprised how short it was though. Felt a bit rushed for sure.

@KyleOfTheBeard yeah and like Grace pointed out, this would've been perfectly fine if we were binging the show. With a week to week wait tho, it can kinda stall the momentum imo. As a fan of the game, I was still enthralled, but I wonder how ppl unfamiliar with Sam and Henry feel about it.

I don’t think they have to give a “water cooler moment” every single episode. Walking dead did that and it’s such a turn off.
@system0fadowner2512 жыл бұрын
@Sky Toro I would disagree that Walking Dead did that every episode, outside maybe the first 2 to 3 seasons (the peak of the quality imo). That show had much bigger issues tho once walkers became basically a smelly nuisance rather than a terror to be feared. So far tlou is excelling in making its infected feel extremely dangerous and scary, even when there's only 1 or 2. It makes moments like the clickers or the coming Bloater feel much more terrifying. I definitely liked this ep, I just kinda felt like it was missing something after the density of the last 3.

I think what you're not taking into consideration is that while we love Bill and Frank and Sam and Henry, what we're really watching for is Joel and Ellie. The story between those characters is what makes the game so special. Yes, the gameplay is great and we all love a "zombie" story done right, but the connection between those two characters is so phenomenally done that you can watch just the cut scenes and still have a great time.

As far as the chemistry between Joel and Tess compared to Bill and Frank…Joel wasn’t in love with Tess like Bill was with Frank. That was palpable difference. As far as groups, I grew up being excluded from groups. One, being a 5 year old girl with ADHD when girls weren’t supposed to have ADHD and two, I observed a lot about groups growing up. People who pack together in traumatic situations don’t always make great decisions. I have always been careful of what groups I associate with and the leaders who I follow. I know that is a bit personal. But this show delves into what happens when our societal social contract breaks down. I would love hear other people’s feedback on that.

Maybe it helps that I'm sure there are plenty more emotional moments coming after Bill and Frank, but I also really love the quieter stretches where we get to see Joel and Ellie bond. I was super nervous about how they'd be able to match the charm and charisma of Ashley Johnson's Ellie, but Bella is doing an incredible job. I also really love Kathleen as a character (especially a certain speech she has, but I think it's in the next episode). I love how they cast Melanie Lynskey for the role so unexpectedly (well, maybe not as unexpected for anyone who's seen Yellowjackets), but I love the contrast of her sweet, gentle face and voice against the sharp, stony edges of what she's determined to do.
