We really saw Ellie’s frustration when Riley told her she was leaving. Ellie in the game sounded more disappointed than upset but show Ellie really expressed how angry she was. I like that change.

@@HeelPower200 I agree with you, I prefer game Ellie. Her likeability and innocence in the game makes the moments of Joel accepting her, teaching her how to survive and protect herself, and her growth/survival in the next bit of the story feel earned. She's shaped by what she experiences along the way whereas show Ellie never feels like she really has that innocence in the first place, she's always got an underlying hint of violence about her.

@@HeelPower200 I've been trying to give this Ellie a chance but seven episodes in and she's just not doing it for me and I think you summed up the reasons why here. Angry, obnoxious, charmless makes her just plain unlikeable for me. And this might sound silly but even the F bombs: game Ellie's F bombs were cute and kinda funny but show Ellie's F bombs seem forced, harsh, and angry. Overall I am enjoying the show though.

I don’t think it’s any coincidence that the 2 best video game adaptations ever (TLOU and Arcane) heavily feature the original creators (Druckman serving as co-showrunner on TLOU, Arcane just straight up being made by the game studio)
@KevinAccetta
@KevinAccetta Жыл бұрын
Can we really call Arcane an adaptation tho..? People keep naming it an adaptation, giving game adaptations a win, but it's not, it's an original story based on the game, since LoL doesn't really have a story. It was great, but it's not adapting moreso creating something new. Same thing win the Castlevania show. This is truly the first real game adaptation imo, one that follows the story of the game as faithfully as possible.

Also another thing to take note of for season 2: Take on Me by a-ha. It was played while Ellie and Riley were on the escalator. It's there by design. That song is very much a part of The Last of Us Part II. Personally, I think Ashley Johnson's interpretation of the song as Ellie is one of the best covers of a classic song that I have ever heard. It's wonderful and it's available on Spotify.

Riley was getting into a lot of of fights it was suggested at the beginning of the episode, so maybe because of her behavior they didn’t see her for a leadership role. Loved how this episode captures the joy and innocence of childhood. It was 100 believable night for two teenagers post apocalypse.

Absolutely agree. That's why Riley was telling Ellie that she can't always fight everyone all the time. As a way to say "hey, learn from my mistakes." As a cautionary tale. I love how that even in a post-apocalyptic world that doesn't mean you don't feel crushes, first love, first kiss, and the innocence of youth. Totally brilliant.

As far as Ellie and Joel comparisons go, she's the one who read Bill's letter and the part about being there to protect people, which I feel she also understands herself. She saved Riley, survived the infection and was told she could help save people and create a vaccine. She's continuing to go on because that's just what she's supposed to do, to protect and save others

they never explored this in the games but I always wondered how did Riley turning play out. We know Ellie doesn't turn because she's immune, but surely she waited with Riley until she turned. She'd have to watch her friend turn into a monster and maybe even have to kill her to save herself, only to then never turn herself and have to live with the guilt and trauma of the whole experience. That would have been so traumatic and that is reflected in the line Ellie says right at the end of the game (I won't spoil as she probably will say in ep 9 of the show too). Such a heartbreaking end and I kinda wanted to see how that would play out. I don't think I expected the show to explore that, but it would have been cool. Overall, a very good episode, not as good as ep 5 and 6 in my opinion but definately a very good episode nonetheless.

Small correction: In the game Ellie and Riley's first kiss and when they got bitten were two separate scenes split between a gameplay sequence where the player ran away from the infected. The kiss scene in the game is in a department store similar to the show's Halloween store. Essentially the show decided to make the Halloween store, their first kiss, and when they were bitten all happen in the same place whereas in the game they were all separate locations.

So Product Placement that isn’t paid advertising is called “Prop” Product Placement. In most countries both “prop” and “advertising based product placement” will both have the same legal requirements but production companies have a poor understanding of it. So for example you have the PP symbol at the start of a program - you need that even if it’s unpaid

I think its interesting that last night after watching the episode I told my GF that episodes 2 and 7 were possibly my least favorite and to find out they were the ones written by Druckmann. So much of this episode was good, but when it ended my GF and I both were shocked that it was over already. I personally really missed seeing/experiencing the end of their story. I would have really liked to see ellie realizing something is different when she doesn't turn/the fire flies discovering her or something. This episode just felt unfinished to us.

I think the Sonic movie may have contributed to the more hands on approach to video game adaptations. Because if folk from SEGA and the Sonic team were involved with that film from the beginning, it wouldn’t have needed to be bullied back into production. That seemed to be a warning shot to those who have ownership of video game IP’s which were in the process of becoming a show / film. And from what I’ve read, Nintendo is also pretty involved in the Super Mario Bros. movie too. And going off how good the trailers have been, it’s paying off. So, I definitely think that creative forces behind the video games are going to be more involved in adaptations generally. As for The Last of Us Part II, season 1 has been laying all of the ground work for it, in a way the game didn’t. Because I genuinely don’t think Part I was made with the intention of there being a Part II. (I don't think there shoulda been a Part II. But, HENNYWAY!). For instance, the commune that Joel and Ellie are taken to in episode 6, which Tommy and his wife run, we don’t see that until Part II in the games. In Part I, it’s basically just a Fedra looking base.

Awe Grace, Me and the rest of the BTT community, adore and have so much appreciation for you. I wish I could become a member but currently financially it is untenable for me. I hope that sometime I will be one of the lucky ones to be gifted a membership but more importantly that I will be able to be a member on my own time dime. I have been a subscriber from the beginning. No less than 12 years I believe, maybe longer? I have been with you from the beginning of your channel and I appreciate you so much! I now even have my partner addicted to your channel! That's saying something! Keep up the fantastic work and thank you so much for all you do and the amazing BTT community you created!!!! 💖💖💖

grace u talk about diversity all the time, take a huge guess as to why riley was giving a crap job. she's black, she might be a light skinned black girl but she is still black. same with how they used to treat black solders in all those old wars back in the day. sure the asian dude has that good job but non black races, put black folks down. its just how it is.

As per creators being involved in adaptations, Cory Barlog is involved in amazon's god of war though we don't know how much, considering he directed the game that series will be based on hopefully as closely as druckmann ideally [as that is probably the next "easiest" adaptation because it is coming from material you can recreate 1:1 from the game and still hold up].

I found it undercut Ellie's dialog in episode 6. Ellie had a home in FEDRA on the officer track.

I've been disappointed in the casting of Ellie and Joel all along. But I have to concede this week that Bella Ramsey is a good actress. She might not look like Ellie, but she captured the essence of Ellie pretty damn well. She and Storm Reid both did a great job. I don't think this episode was as good as Episode 5, because it lacked the epic action, but I liked it. It did enough.
