The problem is the society creating scarcity for single women and shaming them. Meanwhile, i never see a single person shaming a single guy 🙄

It's bitter single guys and men in unhappy marriages/relationships shaming single women because they want them to feel as lonely as they do. Misery loves company

Statistically speaking, women are happiest when single and childless in today's times. Also, women can have friends and biological family that they share a life with. We as humans need the presence of other humans in our lives yes. But we can live alone. We don’t need romantic relationships to survive. We do need love and support, but it can be from friends and family. It does not need to be from a romantic partner. Studies also show that single women are far happier than their married peers, and that married women lose out in career earnings, career trajectory, health, and life expectancy compared to those single peers as well.

Married women live shorter lives, and report lower levels of happiness than women who never marry. Also, according to many studies, women have higher rates of depression when married. Statistics indicate that single women tend to have the highest life expectancy on average.

I’ve never been judged out loud by my mom for being single and childfree, but I get the feeling sometimes that she’s just not as interested and invested in my life as she is in the lives of my siblings. It sucks because I love her, and out of all my siblings I’m the one most likely to have the time, the will and the skills to take care of her when she’s older (I’ve worked with the elderly a lot).

Salaams Yusra! Definitely refreshing to hear this. I'm 35, still unmarried and although I'm lucky to have very understanding parents who never pressured me into marriage I get a lot of judgment from women around my age (and much younger) who are married - I'm sure you know the type. I used to be on muslim dating apps too and stopped after a couple years since I found most of the guys on there to be timewasters and just plain nasty. Now i've gotten to a good place where I am investing more time in volunteering within the community on top of personal development, forming more meaningful connections and developing a stronger support system. Still keeping myself open to romance isA but until then I am going with the flow and enjoying my life as it is :)

So many married women are such pick mes. Sorry I have no respect for them. They think that they are doing something important with their lives because they are washing some mans dirty underwear. If you ask them what they are doing to help the world or live out their life's purpose using their gifts they will look at you with a blank stare.

I've often thought of the single or settle. I'm watching a friend of mine - graduate degree, great job, well-travelled and bought a house. She's marrying this dude who still lives with his parents in his mid-thirties and is still a grocery clerk with NO education. He has no ambition whatsoever. But she's reaching 40 and wants kids so... she settled. She even planned her own wedding before the proposal... which she planned to (as in she told him how to do it, where, when, what ring). That's sad. The whole thing gives me the ick, for lack of a better word. I'd rather be single than be her. I am annoyed that people remind me of my "biological clock." I don't care. I don't want kids so it's a non-issue for me. But I would like a partner, but not a whole man-child that I need to raise. If the house work isn't split, then I'm not interested. I already live with shitty roommates where I do the majority of the cleaning. Why would I want a "partner" to continue this?

I once saw a video of someone who lied and said they are dating as had fun with all the aunties answering questions. I also saw that one person said they have several dates and that shut the aunties up 😂. Jokes aside, most of the people pressuring you, i wonder if they’re happy in their own marriages to begin with. I’m sorry you were crying about this i understand and I’m there with you, take your time, because trust me rushing into things has been the most failed tale of all the times.

I will say, it easier to be single if you are financially stable on your own, but when you are barely scrapping by having a second income in the house becomes essential to living. But also never get with a guy for money, its really important to make sure the person you are with is mentally stable and cares about you deeply. My mom died due to an abusive relationship and I often wish she had felt comfortable being single, but she felt like she needed the second income to support her children and pay the bills.

You graduate from 'where's your husband?' to 'where's your kid?' It never ends. There's no pleasing the elders. 🤣 I've been so lucky to dodge this conversation. My mother would be happy to have (more) grandchildren but she doesn't think anybody is good enough for her daughters. The two son-in-laws she has were a hard win-over for my sisters. She used to be like, 'I wish I had some little feet running around the house again.' And I would be like, 'I'm not parenting alone. I'd have to find a husband for you to get that wish,' and she would go silent. 🤣 She would keep us little forever if she had the chance. She's getting used to this growing up and letting go thing though. By the time I actually do get married (if ever) hopefully it's smooth sailing with her.

The reason I learned that it is okay to be single, as a fellow desi, is that my dad literally told me when i was still in my teens that anybody can marry. any fool, criminal, scientist, rich, poor, beautiful, ugly person can get married. it's not a big deal. focus on the everything else of life cuz as a girl/woman that's gonna be way more important than getting a husband. it takes no effort or talent to GET MARRIED. And this is such an important thing to be told by a parent to a young desi girl. I never even as a kid imagined myself grown up an married. And as a woman too, i am not suited for marriage. the reason no one can hound me for marriage is cuz my parents themselves aren't engaging in that conversation. i wish desi parents let kids decide the whether or not of wanting to get married. it's such a relief seeing as other female and even male friends around my age are being bombarded with wedding talk. and it stresses them tf out. girls even feel like the parents can get rid of them soon enough though we know that's not really the motive. the single life needs to be offered as an option for desi children to ponder about. that you are in your rights to be single and unmarried and we still love you for who you are.

I legit can't even picture being with someone bc my independence was so hard fought and won 😂 I'm sure it'll eventually be a case of two whole people coming together. But that period of time between 25 and 30 in the Asian female community was too much. I was single before that too but after that age it became a ""problem"" to be pitied 🤦🏻‍♀️

The point of there doesn't always have to be princes is true. We're taught from a young age about these things. Though a lot of Disney men are really cute; I think having a princess like Merida and Moana and a queen like Elsa is great. I'm glad we're not teaching kids that being single is awful.

you are so beautiful!! Thank you for this video. I am in a similar situation to the one you describe at the start of the video and my parents have been trying (unsuccessfully) to set me up for the past 5-ish years. I swear some of the guys they come up with…my faith in humanity died a bit with every encounter. Anyway, yesterday I had a disastrous conversation with someone I thought might have potential. And that was the last straw for me. Your video is giving me courage and confidence that I shouldn’t settle or “adjust” because some mummy’s boy wants to make his mum happy by getting married to anyone who will take him.

Again, I love this channel and yes I am binge-watching :0 . I came to this reality last year when I was 28. I realized that I did not want just anything. I wanted something real and authentic. Even though I did not come from a family that pressures us to be married, I run into so many women or communities that reinforce the ideology that women are inadequate if they are single. I also see so many women cry as if being single is the worst thing in the world. Now, I don't want to come off ass judgy because I once was the crying single girl, but now IDC! lol. I This is the most freeing feeling ever... to not be bound by society. I am very happy that you have this channel. I am not a brown person, but chilleeee I think a lot of Black/ Brown people come from very identical cultures.

At first it was external pressure, then it became internal ..like stop please. Now I try to focus on the great things of my life, stop comparing, stop worring that I'm left behind. and stop the mean voices from my head. Romantic status is personal, not a subject of gossip, even with the good intentions. So cheer every day that you love yourself and do make yourself happy :)

Girl I am lucky I am not that attractive because if I was I would be so evil to men, I just hate the idea that romantic love is based on looks, if someone ends up liking me I straight up know it's about my looks and I feel this need to punish them, it doesn't help that they are men. So it's pretty easy for me to be single. By the way, this was the darkest part of my psychee, don't assume I am a bad person, I am not, I am just too self aware to pretend I actually respect men.

Seeing your story has given me hope that I can be happy regardless of the outcome. Thankfully I have been spared “the talk” from my family. If anything, they’ve been encouraging me to take my time, which is reassuring. Btw my mom is the exact same way - she’s been married to my dad for almost 40 years but she sees herself as a single woman. I think that’s where I get my independence from! 😊

Yusra, I can't tell you how much I related to the story you told at the beginning of the video, but then again lots of women have already told you that. And I stand 100% by the advice you gave and that is honestly how I have been trying to live my life for the past 10 years. But, now, in my mid-thirties, I am confronted with the realization that I want biological kids and my clock is ticking. Don't get me wrong. I don't regret that fact that I chose not to settle. I will never regret that. But I am, however, finding that I am not able to live my best life when I know that I desperately want to be a mom and the choices before me right now are either to settle or to go into debt and despair (trying to get pregnant without a partner and be a single mom, not to mention how to deal with the backlash to those choices from a brown Muslim society). I've made my peace with the fact that I might never have companionship. And maybe it will happen unexpectedly for me at age 50. Well, great. But now I'm struggling with the reality that I might never be a mother and I don't know how to deal with that.

As a south asian woman I am actually very happy being single. I love working on my business and focusing on myself without having to worry about taking care of a man or kids. I enjoy my having my own space and peace. My issue isn't with being single, my issue is with how much it has destroyed my relationship with my mother. She is very toxic and controlling. She is obsessed with me getting married because she is worried about status and looking good in front of other brown people. It has nothing to do with my happiness.

Count on you first then work on you. I lost a mom and aunt at 25… different struggles I would give a lot to have family back 😭😭

Also,I don't think there are only two options you guys. In a healthy relationship, you can have a great career. You don't have to pick one of these two. The money or the status, it's more than that ❤

Very observant. Some villains are cooler, in most stories it is the villain that drives the narrative. The hero/heroine is limited they actually need the bad person pushes them to win.

I truly like your story. You seem like a strong person! I am single both by choice and by career. I have accepted who and what I am. I will not deny there are always feelings of loneliness, but this is the path I've chosen. Best to you.

These “expired” comments are so triggering. I didn’t catch your age. But I know you’re young. The average woman has kids at 32 these days and married at 28. 32 is still young to me 🤷🏽‍♀️ May I ask your age? No way you’re like in your 40s! Just don’t get why’d they’d say that.

I'm so glad my family is so unorthodox. The only person out of the 100s of them who have been weird about me not desiring partnership or my own family is my mother 😂😂😂

Same thing happened to me so i told rhem this aunty who was in her 30's to get that man mobile no. ans i will message him first before our parents meet( arranged marriage) and she told me... oh i can't do that, they( boy's family) gonna think I'm too frank that how can a girl. Ask for a boy phone no. And i was like wtf!? Because before that she was telling my mother how awesome that boy/ man is ans his family is so progressive. Like i really tried and actually i was not feeling happy inside i felt so suffocated. These kind of men here needs a woman who is educated and is ok with doing the job but they don't want a woman who use her brain and is confident. Need to find by myself not by these aunties who only lies and actually you can't even speak freely with these men in arranged marriage/ date setup because you know they gonna tell all the things to their parents when they go back.

The dating market really, really is a dumpster fire. I love showing my male coworkers what straight girl tinder is like, cause they really don't know how bad it is out there.

I made a conciosus choice to save myself and not to wait for a man to give me the things I want. It's like I've been programed to belive these gender norms that I shouldn't act certain ways because they're not feminine. Fck that. Those qualities are conveniently exactly what will allow me to get the life I want. I decided to stop putting labels on actions and character traits like feminine or masculine. I mean why would a random man come to your rescue. For being what patriarchy wants you to be. Even in that case it's unlikely. It's just been inbeted in us to wait for a man to save you. But spoiler no one actually comes. You'll grow old waiting for a man to save you. In real life Fiona would have remained stuck in that tower, snowwhite would be dead, Cinderella still in her step mom's house and Aurora still would be asleep. I feared being too rich, too independent, having a house too nice. But why should i not get the things I want for a potential men.

Typically we reject our own race because we are dating outside our race and too scared to tell our families. We make our rounds of different guys then settle with our own race just to please our parents.

So absolutely nothing wrong with singledom but I personally believe entering into any marriage you have to settle to varying degrees due to the need to compromise…

Varying degrees absolutely, but if you marry right the level of compromise is minimal to low, which is how I feel it should be

Also, can we stop using the terms "woman" and "female"? It's obsolete and sexist. woman = wife/slave of man. I would think someone who appreciates being single would understand and want to distance themselves from that label.

This makes no sense?? What are we supposed to call them?? I’m a female and refer to others as women… nothing wrong with that. Girl=prepubescent. Woman=grown adult.

@@7Brielle7 that's not for me to say that's up to those who are/associate with your sex/gender. "woman" and "female" are oppressive sexist terms not very inclusive.

If you really think woman means slave of a man, you have your own issues. Most women would like to be identified as a woman because that's what we are.
