I have a set on my 5th gen 4Runner in size 285/70r17. The only issue I have is they develop a flat spot when parked overnight. It’s not horrible and they eventually round out as they heat up, but I’ve only experienced this in the past on vehicles that sat parked for many days.

Great review. I'm looking forward to a wet road assessment. I don't really know that anyone buys AT tires for their mud performance. We should probably just try to avoid very muddy situations with them and treat mud the way anyone would treat ice conditions using a summer tire. The use case for AT tires is 95% on-road (at least) and great trail performance. Some people will use them well for obstacles, but at that point, the vehicle capability becomes more important than tire choices. Nobody wants to get stuck in mud, so trying to find the limit is an exercise in masochism.

Thanks for posting your snow & ice videos, how big of a gap do these have with a dedicated winter tire so far for you? I'm thinking about going with a set of K03's as a year round set for my truck since I do less than 15K a year near Toronto and the winter performance seems good enough my areas milder winters
@SS454LS63 күн бұрын
I've never ran a dedicated winter tire on this truck. But from my experience with good winter tires (blizzacks and X-ice Michelins), winters are still significantly better, particularly on ice or when it's -20C or colder. With the KO2s there were plenty of times that I risked sliding through an intersection or required 4wd just to get moving from a stop light. I haven't experienced that low grip with the KO3s at all so far.

Useful video. Do you have any idea how this KO3 would compare to the Falken Wildpeak AT4W's in snow and ice and extreme cold? I assume the K)3 has the 3 peak severe winter rating, like the Wildpeak, but how do you think either would do compared to a true, dedicated snow tire? What would be the main difference with a snow, is it softness of the rubber or composition or both, and would airing a 3 peak rated AT like the KO make it as good as a dedicated snow?
@TravisN3 күн бұрын
Tfl did a comparison in Colorado using a jeep. At4w did very poor in the snow
@SS454LS63 күн бұрын
In all my research the KO3's have performed as well or better than the Wildpeaks. I've heard some people still prefer the AT3W over the AT4W. I thought that was interesting.
@mkeller81142 күн бұрын
@@SS454LS6 They went for longevity with the AT4W and made the rubber harder. This makes them not as good in snow and ice as the AT3W. I would rather give up 5000 miles of tire life and have better traction. I don’t think Falken made a wise choice there.
@freedj272 күн бұрын
I would like to find out what wet traction is like on the ko3 vs ko2. I had ko2 on a frontier and the traction was good on pretty much everything except rain. My wife refused to drive that truck in the rain when it had the ko2. I changed to mickey thompson baja boss and those had great traction on pretty much everything, but weigh a lot. I traded in that truck for a ram 2500 and will swap out tires soon from stock to something else. If wet traction is much better, i may look into the ko3. If not, i may go back to baja boss. I was very happy with the baja boss, they just weigh a lot causing a hit on mpg.
@SS454LS6Күн бұрын
I expect the KO3's to be fine in the wet for my vehicle, but I think it would be hard to switch if you've found the Baja Boss to be great for your application. If it aint broke, don't fix it.

For regular highway driving in extreme cold , I would never drive without dedicated winter tires. Braking at 110km/h with BFGoodrich KO3 will lead to a bad day.
@SS454LS63 күн бұрын
I will never discourage a dedicated winter tire for the winter. Unfortunately the trucks with bigger tires don't have the option, not to mention the cost of 2 sets of truck tires/rims. So we need the best option out of what is available.
@3000fpe2 күн бұрын
@@SS454LS6cost is more initially but in the long run you’re gaining big time. Even the best all terrains are ok in snow and mud and suck on ice and when they are lightly worn, they suck at everything. So they are a compromise in every which way when new and are junk when barely worn. Plus you’ll have to buy new ones before they are worn even 50%. So right there you’re spending a lot more on compromise tires that dedicated winter tires and a set of “rest of season” tires. Buy a set of each and you’ll get years of great performance in all conditions while not compromising performance and safety of yourself your family and everyone else on the road

I live in the Utah mountains have been running Ko2’s for years, I feel fine I haven’t had dedicated snows since I was driving a 2wd vehicle. And why the hell would you go 70mph in a snow storm? At best I’m braking from 30mph.
@3000fpe2 күн бұрын
@ yeah in snow they are ok and if you’re driving like a grandma with short commutes. But on ice they are slicks, and if you’re driving in winter conditions a lot and you need to travel a lot at highway speeds then they don’t come close to real winter tires.

I just put KO3’s on my Tacoma, these things absolutely suck in rain, even small normal puddles these things wanna hydroplane. They may be great in certain other conditions, but in my case normal driving in normal rainy conditions, I can’t stand them, my Cooper’s were 100 times better.
@jaymoar3561Күн бұрын
The reason I bought the Cooper Discoverers AT3 because of the superior traction in the rain. You can tell by looking at the tread pattern how good they are for the rain. The KO’s just look good but are highly overrated. The Jeep of tires.

@richardjohnson669511 сағат бұрын
Width to weight ratio needs to be considered when choosing tires. The Tacoma is not a heavy truck so it does not take much over width to cause floatation and the vast majority of mods do just that.

Those pressures are WAY TOO HIGH!!!!!!! On a Tacoma, 30 PSI is about right to get good traction on icy roads with KO2 tires.

He's driving a much heavier diesel truck not a toy. They call for 65 to 80 psi normally.
@useryggfdcc3 күн бұрын
@angrybeavers1175 Ok then if that is the case. Seems pretty of people inflating their tires to the pressures shown on the sidewall....then tires have blow outs.
@SS454LS63 күн бұрын
For an 8500+ pound truck my pressures are on the low side. Factory recommends 65 psi front and 80 psi rear as mentioned below. 80 psi is crazy if you aren't towing. In the summer I'll run 60-65 psi front and 55 psi rear.
@evictioncarpentry26287 сағат бұрын
