Regarding CUISINART COFFEE BURR MILL (DBM8): As luck would have it, I'd read up a little on this unit while shopping for grain milling options recently. Although a very good coffee grinder, the DBM8 apparently has a minor design flaw affecting some (but not all) units wherein small amounts of grounds tend to leak into the interior of the grinder housing over time due to inconsistent integrity of the internal seals, and that after a number of years of use (depending on how often and how fine you grind stuff) the buildup can eventually interfere with the operation of the motor in affected units. The good news is that you can apparently unscrew the housing and clean out the buildup, if you're DIY inclined. I dont own one, so I cant test this, but I'd theorize one way to check if your unit has a bad internal seal is to empty it out, pick it up, tilt it, and give it a gentle shake and listen for grounds swishing around inside the chassis (not sure if this test will work if you've been grinding flour). If you hear nothing, all is probably well. Cheers. BTW, although lentils and rice are probably fine, I'd be cautious about trying to grind chickpeas in that unit ... they're a unique challenge to many types of grinders and are surprisingly VERY hard. I have a grain mill attachment for my 350W Cuisinart pro stand mixer, and it routinely struggles with chickpeas fed any faster than just 3 or 4 at a time, due to insufficient torque. I'd speculate that any burr-type mill with less than 500w powering it is apt to have similar trouble. Since the DBM8 is under 200w and is gravity fed, I wouldn't risk it on chickpeas. For chickpeas, from least to most expensive, I'd probably use either a wet/dry grinder with extra wattage (ex: Revel CCM201 400w "super chopper"), a heavy duty hand-cranked grain grinder powered by a sturdy arm, a good countertop electric grain mill (ex: KoMo), or a superblender (BlendTec 1500w).
