@meleepinata4 жыл бұрын
3-6 came up in a time when you had to stay hungry, work tirelessly, and care about your craft. They paid their dues. The south wasn't even getting respect for hip hop at the time but they kept grinding. I've got mad respect for these guys. You won't hear new artists telling these kinds of stories. The games changed.
@andrewilliams21394 жыл бұрын
It didnt matter when you can sell 200 thousand out of your trunk you dont need Sony. I was surprised when they signed that deal because their albums and tapes were in our stores like regular signed artist in the south near Memphis. Even Unsigned artist from Memphis like playa fly had full card board cut outs of them and the albums release dates at the music stores around here and he had left 3-6 mafia and that album sold like 200 thousand underground.

Paul is the man, always been curious about hearin him speak on evil pimp. Listnin to ya'll talk about people bringin memphis style music around and keepin it alive these days immediately made me think of him...i think he stays more true to that sound than anyone these days. Just imo.
@KoolGNasBlackThought8 жыл бұрын
didnt they have beef? evil pimp is dope but he steals a lotta music from 90s memphis artists, you can call it paying homage or whatever but im sure the creators of the music dont appreciate it cuz i doubt pimp is paying them royalties. paul did the same shit with squeeky and zirk tho so idk
@jameson2916 Жыл бұрын
Evil Pimp just straight up steals Memphis artists style like K-Rock, Lord Infamous, and and Project Pat. It's one thing to use the Memphis sound but you can't just straight up take peoples whole style, annunciation, cadence, and delivery.

Paul and Juice are the real Kings of Memphis. Ball&G are the OGs... the pioneersm... they made Memphis a staple in Southern music, but 3-6 took Memphis outside of the South in a major way. They don't get the credit they deserve... they really don't. They help create Crunk/Buck music. I still like listening to the old M-town rap artists promotional tapes. There is something I love about the sound of those raw beats and lyrics mixing with the rawness of the lower quality (when comparing clarity to that of newer formats such as CD and MP3 etc) sound that the promotional tapes provided (made even lower quality because we constantly played the hell out of them and you know how well used tapes got to sounding like DJ Screw done got a hold of them already). Still blasting Mystic Stylez, Prophet Posse, the original solo stuff by anyone on those classics like Skinny Pimp, Playa Fly, Crunchy Black, Indo G, La Chat, Koopsta, Pat, Gangsta Blac, etc., as well as the old DJ Squeaky, Tommy Wright III, Eightball and/or MJG, stuff and everyone else that I didn't mention before deciding this is a list that would go for days if I were to list them all.
