The BHR E-Race features an 80V 60AH battery, totaling a capacity of 4.8kWh
What’s most unique about the BHR is that it has a 4 speed transmission with a clutch.
According to BHR, they didn’t begin with a completely new chassis for this bike. Although they don’t explicitly state it, BHR suggests that they drew inspiration from one of the top Japanese motorcycle geometries.
Based on my observations, this chassis bears a striking resemblance to that of a Honda CRF. It’s my assumption that the same principles that apply to the Christini AWD dirt bike also apply to this BHR E-Race, in that it appears to be a Honda CRF chassis that has been adapted and modified.
At a dry weight of 273 pounds, (before adding oil to the gearbox), the BHR E-Race is in the heavyweight division of electric dirt bikes. It's reminiscent of the Surron Storm Bee, although, thanks to it's geometry, it does feel lighter than the Storm when riding.

For me. Putting gears on a bike that doesn't need them is a negative. For us guys like me who will ride anything, dig the idea of no gears. That's what makes it super different beside the power source. I'll just go back to the 2t when I want gears. As far as weight, heavy sure but if it rides well, then let's go. The suspension is the elephant in the room for us MX guys. Sure you could change it out but that's all about money. At 8500-ish I want the ride, especially on a pig in weight. Don't get me wrong I freaking love the bike and am super excited where this goes. But let's make it quick. I almost think the ultra light bee could handle more of the mx scene. Especially price wise.

Interesting bike. Cheers for the video. Do you think with the gearbox and big battery this bike would be getting close to being genuinely capable of trail riding? For example my local trail there and back would be about 40km(25 miles ish). Depending on the weather its fairly steady riding up to about 20mph with maybe 5 short harder sections. Quite often on my current bike I would follow that trail, then do another 20km on tarmac to the enduro track (which has some good longer loops) and then return the same way. In total this normally ends up being about 90 to 100km(60 miles ish) 25miles of trail, 25 miles of road and 10 miles on the enduro track Id happily tolerate extra weight if it meant I could have an almost silent low maintenance trail bike. I think the bike being quiet would help with maintaining trail access as it tends to be the noise that pisses people off. Cheers Paul

Good stuff! Disappointed that the bike is that heavy, and those transmission issues shouldn’t be happening, regardless of if it’s brand new or not. Poor excuse. I’d like to see more bikes like this, keeps the rider engaged and gives current gasser riders a place to go better than a surron. Hopefully we see some offerings from other manufacturers in this field. If that weight was closer to 200-220 it would be a winner.

@All Motors Media For sure! Agree. Definitely some room for improvement and hope that BHR works on these aspects of the bike. The weight is largely due to the 4.8kWh battery and although a lot of weight could be shed by going with a smaller battery, it would obviously impact range. Always a give and take there. I'm personally happy to see another bike in the market that is going this direction and everyone needs to start somewhere. Cheers.

@@ElectricCycleRider yes, that battery must be heavy. In my opinion (which may be contrary to popular opinion) on a bike like this I’d rather have the MFG include 2 smaller battery packs that are easily swap-able. That’s just my use case, maybe in the future we could see this being an option; big battery for long enduros with no swapping, or smaller lighter batteries for shorter more aggressive stints.

If you had only 2 gears then a mode switch change on the fly could be set up as a change of gear without the extra mechanical baggage. Probably could even do it with more maps to resemble more gears. I only have experience with electric riding on my Sur-ron but dont miss the clutch at all. It will be interesting to hear what you think after more testing. I also wonder how it effects battery life as the motor will be drawing power at time but not transferring it to the ground if riders like to slip the clutch a lot.

Great question! I think the better comparison to the BHR is the Surron Storm Bee, though. I think the chassis and suspension on BHR feels sportier than the Storm, and for that reason, the BHR rides lighter and more predictable than the Storm. I do think the powertrain on the Storm is much better than the BHR though. I've been impressed with the powertrain on the Storm. The Ultra feels so much different than both the Storm and the BHR. If you're leaning towards an Ultra, I wouldn't let the BHR sway you in a different direction. It is much heavier (by approximately 85 pounds) and overall has a much different feel. I think an Ultra Bee with some mods would be the best move if you're looking for that lightweight, in-between type of electric dirt bike. What type of riding are you doing?

OK, so for the sort of riding you are doing in the vid, the gears and a clutch are worthless. How about some technical trails with steep climbs, rock faces and logs/ruts where the value of a clutch is priceless? Traction is king in those areas and torque delivery has to be controlled. A comparison between a clutch version and direct drive in tight, technical trails would be the real test.

@@GroovyVideo2 It would be great to have Showa or KYB but from a manufacturers perspective, it's not as easy as just slapping those components on and putting it into production. KYB or Showa needs to decide that it's in their best interest as a company to supply BHR with these components for mass production. Even if they hypothetically did decide to do that, I'm sure those premium suspension products would be reflected in the price. Simply putting KYB or Showa on a 1 off prototype or project bike is definitely feasible, but everything gets much more complex when the bike actually goes into production. The frame has nothing to do with the Honda CRF frame, it's not even inspired by if you look at it. CRFs have extruded and cast aluminum frame, while this has a much simpler and cheap welded steel frame that has nothing to do with the Honda one. Geometry may be similar but overall construction is completely different. The plastics have the same mounting point, it's just that. The fact that people keep repeating their shameful marketing pitch is really saddening to me. A serious reviewer and cool guy like you know better! Anyway, I tried a similar thing too last year in Milan, with a different name/brand, but almost the same size and same motor. I hit some false neutral too... and realized that, to me, you must change the final transmission ratio to make the 4 gears gearbox make sense, so that you can use the first gear as super low crawling gear on the trails and the 4th on the road. Overall, the bike I tried seemed too cheap and costed half what BHR asks now (and you can't register it here in Italy). No, thanks... For 4/5K with all the docs to be registered as L3e in Europe it will make much more sense.

Seems this has struck a cord, so happy to dive into it some more. I have not heard the "shameful marketing pitch" that you're referring to. If you care to expand on what you mean there, I'll listen to your viewpoint about that. I had not heard one person directly compare this chassis to that of a CRF (including BHR) before releasing this video, which is where I'm getting confused by your claim that people are repeating it. I personally had the realization when looking at the frame geometry and design, along with physically riding the BHR, that I could draw some very direct comparisons to the mid 2000's Honda CRF's that I've personally owned over the years. You're absolutely right, Honda CRF's are aluminum. The BHR is steel. My assumption that this is a replica of a CRF frame came from analyzing the two frames and knowing that these style frames have absolutely been replicated by other manufacturers overseas. Yes, materials are different, as you mentioned, and that does have a large impact on the flex characteristics of the chassis. But using close to identical geometry would make me beg to differ on your statement that they have "nothing to do" with each other. The bike feels like a Honda CRF 450X with an electric powerplant. Ask me how I know... Very possible that the bike you rode had a similar, or identical, motor gearbox to this bike. Your thoughts are plausible on that part of the bike. I just don't necessarily subscribe to your arguments about the chassis. Always open to hear your ideas and thanks for bringing it up. Cheers.

@@ElectricCycleRider I agree they look similar and have similar geometry of course it's a knock off though and knock off are never as good as the original so it being steel and not lightweight aluminum makes sense. @@ElectricCycleRider I wrote a detailed response but I can't see the message anymore. What happened? Who is that struck a cord here? Uhm... not expecting something like this from you. You are completely wrong about the frame, it has noting to do with Honda at all. I am not asking to subscribe to my argument, there is none, it's a fact. There is no resemblance to mid 2000 honda frame at all, go compare it side by side and it will be absolutely clear. Not mentioning the fact that honda has a complex cast+extrude aluminum construction...while this is cheap steel with arguable welds. I am a bit disappointed in you, repeating the marketing bs that many vendors said on facebook (and got slammed for it). You should know better.
