I blame her MOM most‼️ She fed colorism & texturize into that girl from the start‼️ But then again as an ADULT she should know better ‼️

Know better, you say? All these swirlers are delusional and can never know better. What do you think make them to swirl in the first place? They’re all self haters and have inferiority complex, and that makes them swirl in the first place.

I actually unfollowed that influencer on Instagram. As a black woman with “African American hair” and 4c type hair, I was definitely offended. I’ve had people in real life try to shame me because I have type 4C hair. And the fact that she said “don’t take this the wrong way” while continuing to degrade her moms hair texture is really wild.

@LivingThe VeganLife while that may be true, she’s the one with a large platform spreading this type of negativity surrounding kinky curly hair textures. I honestly feel like it’s both their faults for this way of thinking. Just because someone teaches you something doesn’t mean you can’t grow out of that way of thinking. A lot of blame falls on the mom but on her as well. As an adult people need to unlearn behaviors and ideals that hinder their growth as individuals in all capacities, even if they were repeatedly taught from young ages. It maybe easier said than done, but I feel like everyone would be better off if we dealt with these types of negative ways of thinking (or having discussions about it like this one) rather than allowing people to think this is acceptable.

Yep, it's a shame isn't it? We all need to think about the language we use to and about each other. We all have "blessings" but there's no need to diminish anyone else. "4c" always seems to be under attack. I love the versatility of my hair. I love changing my hair styles. We can all love everything about us and it doesn't need to be at the expense of anyone.

ALL what's on TV, they only show products, featuring the majority of white and also biracial black women. I've only seen all the amazing and varieties of products for our hair on BET and we have more products for our hair of all KINDS vs. a white person's shelf. That I don't understand. Tv influences, parents, magazines, posters. Not just hair, clothing, body care, when your scrolling through online stores, why are white women and Kardashian ethnic women being advertised, paid to wear clothes?? I'm soooo sick and tired of the lack of diversity everywhere it's NOT REALISTIC, its disturbing! I want to see me, like anyone else that show cases any product. OUR society is poison, Generations are being poisoned clearly. Who needs Adolph Hitler? It's sooo simple. Conditioning. More love and power to you! And respects. I feel the same but not biracial-well I have some white in my family and Cherokee - but I'm not in an all-direct line of it. I love having different race in my blood because I can represent beautiful cultures. My mom took care of my hair-but back than the resources of today are different from the 80s and I had problems with my hair and my mom complained and made me feel it was my fault but at the same time never taught me how to take care of it, how to braid, etc. Dad-man stereotypical-didn't pay attention or care (there are a lot of men that care for their hair and enjoy it-he wasn't) So, it took me a Loong time to want to use my MIND and WILL to look into esp after I went through cancer twice. It's very enlightening and enriching to RESEARCH, RESEARCH about ANYTHING and everything-not just hair plus I'm not a barbie or barbie lover, or pixie want to look pretty 7 days a week-lol, I see the obsession of beauty on women's side. I'm a tomboy and never really wanted anything to do with hair and beauty regiments >< I'm more into art, crafting, animals, nature, etc hippie geek. But wanting to finally care for my hair and my feelings, a lot of love and respect, I decided to research, experiment and understand nature within us as to our unique, amazing, and complexity of our hair. I do love that there is nothing you cannot do with it. I've come across a lot of videos of black women esp in Africa who grown their hair as long as Repunzal! I'm natural and staying it that way. I never knew that there were a lot of biracial black people whom have issues-not just hair but I certainly understand where it comes from-went to school and I had a psychology class. Nature Vs. Nurture opens up you the neurons in your brain to understand the ugly evil side of people. Well, either that or watch maybe Dr. Phil-he almost NEVER has non ethnic white guest...-.- and he's a red state guy. But I'm grateful for really good information out there! My hair is growing beautifully now, it's a whole lot better than when I was a kid and then some, lol. Plus, out of my laziness and careless its better lol. I'll always be a tomboy than a girly girl or others barbie. Also, I realized we have more products for our hair than shelves for Caucasian people, lot of options and experimenting >< lol. It's interesting journey.

The root of not liking our natural hair is too complicated. When we live in a world where Western beauty standards are prevalent, other people won’t like our hair even if we do. Wear your hair how you like it & live your life without seeking external validation. I personally won’t down someone who struggles with loving their natural hair because I understand the history involved. We’re all at different stages of the self love journey and not everyone has reached full self acceptance.

I am so sick of the unmanageable and I have no idea what to do with my natural hair. Especially from 4c girl’s. It’s not hard when you except that your hair doesn’t hang, that sometimes the texture isn’t going to always be perfectly defined. That this is just how your beautiful head of hair is. The easier it is to work WITH it. Stop trying to make your natural hair do things it isn’t naturally supposed to do. It’s the acceptance that makes it hard

I don't agree with your comment at all as a woman that has 4c hair I don't try to make it do things it naturally never would. I have 4c hair and for me it is hard to manage. It is what it is. Everyone can not braid or twist or cornrow no matter how many youtube videos we watch. It doesn't work like that. We are well aware of what our hair can and can not do. We don't need anyone telling us how to feel about the hair that grows out of our head.

I was 57 YEARS OLD before I finally learned what my own hair texture is. 57. A lifetime of straightening combs, dye and lye. In 2020, I did the big chop down to the scalp and my ONLY regret is that I didn’t wake up and do it twenty years ago. I spent a LIFETIME chasing the curls that have been growing from my scalp my entire life. My God… My hair is 4C and all white. I embrace every SINGLE strand. I learned how to care for it by watching KZbin videos of people who look like me. Buying what they buy. Trying what they try. Every Saturday is the day I get to wash and style my hair. I look forward to it all week. My pamper time. Yes the gray ages me. But in ditching the dye, the LYE and society’s LIE about my hair, I finally feel like my authentic self. I don’t WANT to look like them. Our crown defies gravity, honey, I do my twist outs every week, sit under that dryer and rock my crown proudly. I can’t love it ENOUGH. I feel sorry for those who can’t accept their natural hair. They really ARE denying a beautiful part of their own majestically created selves. As for that ignorant, un-enlightened, brainwashed ALLEGED “influencer,” well…as Maya Angelou always said: When people show you who they REALLY are… BELIEVE THEM.

Exactly!!!! I hate that word. One of my coworkers called our hair nappy and I wish I had your wording. To me, nappy means matted. Most naturals take very good care of their hair and have pride in it and will never let it get anywhere near nappy!!! Our hair is spiraled. And spiral hair just sticks together. I can easily pull my type 4 coils apart even when dry (very gently of course 😁). So, not nappy!

@@Fearless-wi4ng I really don’t mind the word nappy. I purchased a personalized tag for my car years ago in Virginia. It simply says HNAPPY-the best I could find for “happy I’m nappy”. It is a VA tag, but I still have it in the front of my car in Michigan with my Michigan tag on the back. I am proud of my hair texture. Sometimes I just let it stand on my head however it wants, and it will mat up, but that’s fine. I think about it often , but I don’t want to remove my tag. IDK. Can someone give me more valid reasons to not use this word, as I don’t use it against myself like the KZbinr used it against her mom. I use it in favor of myself and what God put upon my head. IDk. I’d like to know. Long story but my mom and dad both had silky hair. My mom used to let me go as is because she didn’t know how to control my hair. My dad used to say I could go to functions if I “could do something with my hair”. My something became to embrace my hair and not be ashamed. Like the OG KZbinr, Naptural85 has embraced the word.

I saw a natural hair page on IG post this girl's video and someone commented saying "yall know what she talking about, type 4 hair is unmanageable". And also im so tired of seeing people with type 4 hair call their hair unmanageable. FUNNY STORY, a friend of mine who has type 3 hair i saw she posted that was she texturizing her hair because her hair was unmanageable and i was like wow. Look at someone with a "desirable" hair type saying that her hair is unmanageable. I realized then that manageability is a MINDSET. If you tell yourself your hair is unmanageable then its unmanageable. On the flip side, if you tell yourself your hair is manageable and actually LEARN how to take care of YOUR hair, your hair would be manageable. ,p.s. alot of people who have type 4 hair especially 4c say their hair is unmanageable because its not doing what looser textures do. I used to be one of those people but i have broke free from the shackles of that mindset
@cam632
@cam632 3 жыл бұрын
I feel like whether or not you think your hair is manageable is a mindset. For most of my life, I assumed my 4c hair was hard to manage because that's all anyone had ever told me and I believed it. But once I decided to love my hair and realize that God made all hair textures beautiful and unique and found out how to actually care for it, that unmanageable mindset went out the window. And it's funny because I've had friends with more "desirable" hair textures literally say they can't manage their hair. So can we just stop trying to shame women with 4c hair and realize that whatever your hair texture is , it's beautiful. Also, I feel sorry for that girl and her mom. Her mom should have told her everyone was blessed with whatever hair texture they have and her momma should have told her too. Okay, rant over.
@JennJackson
@JennJackson 3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! The idea that our hair is unmanageable is a learned concept and many of us never take the TIME to actually learn and manage our hair. We also define “manageability” with other textures in mind. We except our hair to look a certain way and when that doesn’t happen, suddenly, sometime is wrong with it.

I am a black Mom raising a beautiful black young woman. My daughter is 16 and in two months she will be 17. I have not used relaxers on her hair and she has a crown of healthy 4C goodness. It is my job to teach her to love and embrace who she is as she is enough. If she decides to use extensions I know it will be because she wants to experiment rather than hide who she is. My daughter knows how to take care and style her own hair and this delights me. She is comfortable in her own skin. Sister's please...let's raise secure and self aware young women not women who will grow in other people's shadows not content about who they are. Thanks Jenn for yet another awesome and informative video. Lots of love from South Africa ❤️

I've been natural for just one year of my 36 years of life. Once you find the right products that work for you, type 4 hair really is not that hard, honestly. At least not mine. It's only "hard" when your trying to make it do what it isn't meant to do. So let's redefine hard as that; a lack of acceptance. Once you find the right products and accept what it is, you'll see it is easy.

I do think people with silky hair are lucky but not because it's better lol..it's because they don't have to overcome texturism for example.. It's a luxury, just like being thin, having an hourglass shape ( now at least). I was a model and the comments about my hair were so painful and really got me feeling angry. Society gives you less stuff to be insecure about.. But that's it..I struggle with my hair because of depression and the lack of hairstylists that can deal with my texture..THEY make me feel embarrassed.. But I love type 4 hair and I know if I had the energy to take care of myself I wouldn't be feeling this way aka I would be better equipped to deal with societies opinion of me as a regular darkskinned kinky haired woman

I heard this a lot growing up from my mom. Eventhough we are not mixed raced, my sisters had finer looser texture than I. I was always told I had horrible unmanageable hair, and she wished my hair was like my sisters. That's why when I went to college (I'm 36 now so this was a long time ago) I relaxed it because I was too afraid of doing it myself. Big mistake. Had I known what I know today I would have never relaxed it. I'm back natural now, but only a year. It not as hard as my mother made out to be. Honestly few people lift up textured skinny coil hair. Most people want loosely curled hair-constantly looking for products that will elongate - curse shrinkage curse Puff. She and her mama are just being very bold and blunt. But why do people want looser coils - is it really just self hate? Or is there more to it?
@monember2722
@monember2722 3 жыл бұрын
What we don't seem to want to own up to is that looser textures are simply easier. If that were not the case, we wouldn't have so many black women with head fulls of healthy natural hair in protective styles, tucked under wigs and weaves. We practice being offended and thinking it's about beauty and acceptance when it's so often about practicality. It is time consuming hair, easy to make a misstep, and easy to damage. There are thousands of natural hair videos confirming the issue but we continually focus on some misguided sense of people hating how it looks. It's ridiculous at this point and tired. If black people dislike textured hair at all, the beauty of it is probably low on the list of reasons why we do.

I really could care less. That’s how she feels and her black mother with 4c hair perpetuated this negative view of 4c hair. And black women with 4c hair further make these women feel superior to us by wearing the wigs with textures the furthest from our own. I’m not giving her a pass she feels how she feels and no matter how we try to dissect it and educate these types of women they won’t change. Why does she have to change her mind? It's ok to feel grateful with what she was given. Kinkier hair can be work to figure out and then also to ensure it thrives. If us kinkier girls are grateful for our hair texture than she can feel grateful for hers. I'm grateful my appears thicker than it is. She's grateful for the lack of struggle, yanking, knots,... @@monember2722 she doesn't have to change her mind the issue a lot of people have is not that she feels blessed but is that she is saying she would not want 4c hair over her own specifically because it is "unmanageable". She is blessed to have her hair just as 4c people are blessed to have their's and everyone else. also not all 4c hair needs work to ensure it thrives their are many areas of there world where black people do the bare minimum and it thrives the needing work is more of a western ideology. also struggle, yanking, knots etc are not exclusive to 4c. The are prone to it but it happens a lot if looser textures as well. It all depends on how you take care of it. Many black people have a harder time finding readily available resources for how to take care of their hair, so its just a learning curve. @@malomusende3018 but questioning her reasoning is unnecessary. Black people have known that our hair is not necessarily easy. It is prone to various detriments and needs diligence for it to thrive. You feel the need to question her perspective because you choose to distrust her because her hair is not 4c and she is mixed therefore you suspect her of looking down on those of us with kinkier textures.

4c women wearing wigs with various textures (bc black people can make VARIOUS different textures and not only curls, although rare) does not make these women feel superior that is themselves. last time I checked pale ppl tanning doesn't affect how darker skinned people feel about their skin to that extent. please know that divorce and remarriage is adultery, the Lord Jesus says that your first spouse is your one true spouse until death do you part, if a person is divorced they must forgive their spouse and go back to them, Luke 16. Lord Jesus Christ is coming back everyone, please don’t worship celebrities and entertainment, focus on Him alone. I promise there’s more to life than money, partying, homosexuality and music. Hell is real, repent from sinning confess your sins and ask God to forgive you, I know He will if you’re sincere. Hell is very hot, people please repent! In the mighty name of Lord Jesus Christ, Amen 🙏💪✝💜❤✝! Idolatry such as, Islam, Catholicism, Sangomaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Racism, Santa Clausism, Confucianism, New Age, Science, Evolution, halloweenism, Harry Potterism, Politics, Donald Trumpism, Easter Bunnyism and other religions/faiths that are outside Biblical Christianity lead to hell! Don’t believe them, believe the Almighty God the Father of Lord Jesus Christ, who begot Him. Our Creator, The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is mighty, He doesn’t need a woman to beget a son, He is God. I choose to put my faith in a God who can do anything and everything, a God who has unlimited and infinite power to beget! So, it’s time to confess that Lord Jesus Christ is the Lord and to believe that He died and rose from the grave after three days and you shall be saved if you only obey Him by praying, worshipping, praising, reading the Bible and living holy and righteously according to the Bible. You have to endure until the end, carry your cross daily and build your relationship with God by following Lord Jesus daily until the end. You must never renounce your faith in The Lord Jesus Christ, there’s hell awaiting those who reject/deny Lord Jesus Christ and those who continue living sinfully, even the Christians who don’t want to repent will face the same fate, so please repent beloved people, in Lord Jesus Christ’s mighty and precious Name, Amen.

We as black people have been so brainwashed to believe that our natural features are a curse. Even some natural hair enthusiasts don’t embrace our “real” texture. We didn’t embrace our curves, lips, and skin tone. We are beautiful!!! People never liked big butts and thick lips until celebrities started medically enhancing their bodies. I am blessed. Links and all!

Thank God for my mother. I have 2 sisters, their hair is 3b-3c and mine is 4c. My mother never disparaged our hair one against the other. She always described our hair as thick and healthy. Thick hair in my house growing up was a compliment. It meant you had a full head of hair that when styled, would always look nice. Her mother is to blame but she isn’t intelligent enough to evolve despite being given a platform. I don’t know her but from that clip, I can tell she is just a pretty, light skinned, air-headed girl. The one who knows nothing but has captured people’s attention because she “looks the part” and people gravitate to her because of it. Guard your hearts and minds people. Put far from you people who have nothing of substance to offer. Pray for them, but don’t let them sow seeds into your hearts and minds.

Definitely instilled by her mom. Hopefully she’ll realize that thinking is an absolute NO NO, and will change it. Any woman that have hair is blessed to have it.

For the life of me I still don't understand why Black women had to come up with this 4c, 4b, 4a hair thing!! Why are we perpetuating this FOOLISHNESS that one type hair is better than the other. I swear we show other ethic groups everyday that we really don't like ourselves. It's sad!!

That's the problem with people. We tend to value what others have rather than appreciate the traits we were born with. I'm learning to embrace the features & qualities that God blessed me with. I hope you all do the same.

What’s also an important thing to know, is men aren’t exempt from the conversation as well! My roommate asked me what kind grade of hair do I have, or if I was mixed! It really hurt my heart! As a male, I’m proud that I can do my kinky hair well, and being asked that my healthy kinks are a result of me being mixed truly killed my spirit! We must spread this knowledge all over!

The only problem I have ever had with my hair is I just can't style hair and hardly have the time to try. I get headaches once (I) try to manipulate my hair. I just don't have the patience.

Yes she was wrong and texturist but we can’t not act like we didn’t grow up hearing and saying the same thing or that some of us ourselves participate in the exact behavior as her and her mother also to this day I see black women with “African American hair” say the same about their own hair I don’t have the solution because all the exposure of the natural hair movement has not made much difference of how people view our hair All we can do is be proud of hair and not disparage in front of children and other races

Maybe she never really learned to manage her hair. I don't hate my hair but it frustrates the ever-loving fuck out of me. Been natural for almost a decade, and nothing gets my hair the way I want it to be. Moisturizing, gallon of water, low manipulation, deep conditioning, etc. My hair is still always dry and still falling out.

WellI hope this helps! 😂😂 I mean! Instagram is FULLLL of these influencers! They are legion! The brands and everybody is promoting this type of features while we are seen as RATCHET if we wanna wear wigs or weaves!!! They are seen as glam, trendy and beautiful... In my opinion, when I see the promotion made around people having biracial features WITH SILKY HAIR, they are representing the new generation for the brands!! (by the way Thanks for us the dark skinned brown 4c hair type girls!!!!!) I could feel offended but I will not! I will stick to what I like to do the most! Be an exemple to my daughter! She is 8 now and since she was born, she sees me with natural hair. When the white kids (we from Belgium and are the only black ppl of the village lmao) are asking her "why don't you straighten your hair? Do you like to be black or would you like to be white? SHE GOT HER MAMA SHOWING HER SHE CAN BE PROUD! C'ause even tho' mama is in the hair game, mama is natural the WHOLE ASS TIME preaching love and respect for our black features!!!!!! GAHDAMN!
Girllll, I tried the no oils, no butters trend and we NEED to talk!
