I love the look of the original Moka, If they could switch out the aluminum for stainless steel I would definitely replace my Venus with it.

YES! I'm not a fan of the new designs. The unique angular design is much easier to grip on to as well when tightening them together. However not being able to put the old aluminium mokapot in the dishwasher is annoying!

Okay, you got the stainless pots misnamed. The flared bottom is the VENUS and the tapered bottom is the MUSA.

Good thing about the stainless steel ones is that they work on an induction hob or at least the one I bought did.

Their are induction adapter plates, or converter plates now for aluminum and copper pots.

Hi, The temp of my coffee brewed with cold water is max 60C and with boiled water max 85C. Pouring to a cup, I lose another 10C, so coffee is undrinkable. Any idea what can be wrong? Note that I'm grinding the coffee with timemore c2 using 13 clicks.

Bought my first one, before watching this video. Was in the store and had no idea the sleek models were just newer versions of the old model. But I took them apart and they appeared to work the same. In the end I bought the old model because its design is so unique and interesting even if maybe not as pretty as the newer models.. More of a conversation starter I think.

I find espresso grind is too fine: I tend to set the grinder between espresso and drip. The Bialetti Brikka is interesting because it has a pressure-cooker-style weight on the central column, which bumps up pressure in the grounds basket and gives you a much more tasty cup than the traditional moka pot. It's still not espresso but it's good. When I pull an espresso on my Lelit machine I use 15 grammes of coffee for a single shot. No caffeine problems. 15g in a 10 cl Brikka shot stands me on my ear. So: strongly suggest you have a look at the Brikka. It's fun, too. Oh, the 2-cup (10 cl) model gives better results than the bigger models. Cheers, and thanks for the great videos!

After drinking coffee with one of these for 30 years, go to a coarser grind. Not as much as french press but close.

Interesting. I actually prefer halfway between espresso and turkish grind. Call me crazy. :-) But then again I use it to make latte's.

I use my mokka almost every day. Currently with Hawaii kona and honestly even when you use a cheap mokka pot you still get an excelent tasting coffee...Hungarians call these kotyogo which refers to the sound of the sizzling coffee escaping from the middle valve.

Can I add coffee in the filter & milk on top reserve at the same time as to make a cappaccino? I asked as I saw a video where a Bialette moka Expresso pot that froth the milk after the coffee got into the top part. if I can which moka pot would it be?

Why not? If you can froth your milk separately (either with a standalone frother or a wand), it’s worth a try. Keep in mind the espresso won’t be as strong since the Bialetti will pull at 2 bar instead of the normal 9 bar. Cheers!

Do any of these have the possibility of making half a pot? I'm replacing an Alessi 9090. One day I needed a cup of coffee, put it on the stovetop and fell asleep. It was a 3 cup but I could put a plate in the grind holder and make half a pot. Very convenient. I also have melted rubber that I have got no idea how to clean off and the company doesn't service their products or tell you how to clean them. I'm stuck. So it's back to the classic. However. If I want a single cup the little ones are difficult to regulate and overheat.

My brand new Venus Bialetti after two coffees the bottom water tank turned brown from gas flame I guess, I can't remove it. Is it normal that stainless goes brown right after the flame touches it ?

If the tank goes dry and you heat the steel too much, all stainless will turn brown because it is oxidized by the heat. It may be possible to polish that oxidized layer off the exterior, but I would not mess with the interior.

I have the bialetti and use it too infrequently. I tested a multitude of grinds from true espresso to extra course trying to perfect the cup I get from the bialetti. When I finally determined that a course espresso grind kept grinds from over saturation of the coffee the problem became making 4 cups for the road in a timely manner. Bottom line, good coffee makers do not have to be expensive.

Try boiling the water first in a kettle, and use that to make coffee. That also protects your espresso maker, and is the recommendation from Bialetti. It cuts 3/4 of your time. Bonus: the coffee also tastes better. 😊

I read that Bialette did make the original moca pots. The aluminum ones were made on some of the original machines in the same factory, until quite recently. I used one for years but changed coffee habits and forgot about it. A year ago I was given a stainless steel mica pot and I have used it regularly. I start almost every day with the moca pot and Lavazza's creme e gusto or Rossa. I no longer use aluminum cook ware of any kind so I was pleased to see the stainless steel pots appear.

I have the Bialetti Venus moka pot. I love the high quality coffee that it produces. I have found that, in its upper chamber, in the circumference crevice below the bottom of the upper chamber, some slightly thicker oil residue doesn't come out with rudimentary cleaning. Inserting some folded, pressed napkin or paper towel into that circumference crevice does remove some of the resudue. Do you know of a method or substance that will help to remove the almost invisible coffee oil residue from below the bottom surface of the Bialetti Venus Moka Pot 's upper chamber? Thank you. I have been using this mocha pot for years, and own the 3-cup-, 6-cup and 9-cup versions (the 3-cup is my most often and easiest to use). Unfortunately, the effort is not "Minimal" as shown in the video description. To get the very best from these mocha pots requires some additional investment of both money and time. The quality of coffee you get strictly depends on the quality of the coffee you use. Fresh, dark, whole bean is the best, but a good grinder investment is required. Buying your coffee pre-ground usually results in getting stale coffee. Even coffee that is ground fresh will lose most of its flavor within a few days. Whole bean stays fresher for a longer period of time, and holds the natural oils which are important to the overall taste. Grocery store beans are good to learn with. The problem here is that you really don't know exactly what the beans are or how old they are. You can look online for reputable coffee sellers who will roast your beans to order, then ship them out immediately. By the time you get them, they will be totally degassed and ready to use. However, expect to pay more for this service. I typically order 24-ounces at a time to insure freshness. With shipping, that comes out to about $35 ($23 per pound). Unfortunately, that's the cost if you're after the best. The flavor, though, is night-and-day. That light brown topping you get on the coffee is not creme, but rather foam. This is a good indicator of the bean quality. Freshly roasted and ground beans will produce a good layer of that foam. Stale beans will produce very little, if any. So, if you're not getting that delicious-looking brown foam at the end of your brew, your coffee sucks. Compared to drip coffee makers, prep time can be long. Start to finish, 10-12 minutes. You need to be there the whole time, especially when the coffee is brewing. Don't boil the water in your mocha pot as instructed in this video! That's way too hot! Use a medium high heat. The water does not have to be boiled to produce enough steam to make this pot work! If your water is too hot, it will produce a more bitter pot of coffee.

I refute this! I blast it with an electric grinder, practice gets you to the right grind....youll have a chance every morning! Buy decent beans the best you can find/afford. This does not have to be complicated!

Well steam is produced only when liquid passes the boiling point, at least some of the liquid. In my opinion full power at the beginning is better and then just lower it when you start to hear it.

You also, preferably, want to boil your water before you dispense it into the moka pot. It cuts boiling time on the stove much shorter and produces a much better cup since the grounds aren't being heated with the water as they would be if you started with cold or room temperature water.

RD M. It is not really 10 minutes time for me, it is always less than 5. I have my fresh beans pre-loaded in the grinder. I pre-heat the water on the range top, in the stainless steel base, on medium. I grind the beans, distribute the coffee in the filter basket and put the basket on base. I put the top on the base. (I have the Alessi and it is easy to do when hot). I turn it down to medium low. In about a minute, the coffee starts to trickle out. It is less work (including cleanup) than the high-end espresso machine I also use. For others considering a Moka pot: Although Moka coffee is not the same as from an espresso machine, it produces a very good, strong coffee and gram for gram, it produces more caffeine. If you get your beans, grind and temperature down, it is never bitter.

Regular coffee is best. Espresso grounds are quite fine and can go through the filter holes. Finer slows down the brew time too, I think. So can affect taste.

The old Prodotti Stella where great sold stainless steel moka pots I have had one for seventeen years, still works fine, I wanted a smaller one and found out that Prodotti sold there designs to De'but a Taiwanese company, bought one and there a Beautiful moka pot and work superbly,

I got one of the old bialetti stovetops as a present, its not the big one you have, one size smaller. However, the sealing ring is damaged after 3 years of usage, do you know how I can tell what size of ring I have do order? On Amazon they are sold like "bialetti for 4 cups ring" etc., I dont know how many cups my is supposed to have. And I cant see a declaration anywhere on the thing. Thanks.

​@@arvintan3629Musa (the cone shaped) would be a better choice in my view. Above all it's induction compatible. Don't ask why Venus is not, they both are stainless steel, and seem to follow the same principle. Yet this is the key difference.

Nice as usual, you missed (as others have noted) the arguably "best" Bialetti, though: the Brikka! More pressure than the three versions you have shown and thus a little more espresso-like coffee. Now you have to make another review with just the Bialetti Brikka! ;-)

None of the stainless steel Bialettis lose metal flakes. These are high quality items. My whole family uses Bialettis since the beginning of time. They do not degrade even though I regularly clean mine with citric acid to get rid of limestone. No rust either, it's stainless. And the right kind that is still stainless after you boil water in it countless times. So be confident taking a Bialetti Musa or Venus.

I loved in Italy and until 1990 this was all that was available in the house. The ones in the caffés cost $10,000. I think the pro.iferation of a chain from your home city made "espresso" popular and pushed the market for home machines. Possibly they were made but when you could have the real deal 100' away it boiled couches to two. Anyway coffee in the home tasted like this. I did get a semi-automatic but moved to a place where they don't drink espresso. So I didn't need to be pulling shots. So I need a stovetop that makes 3 cups or 1. A single cup of coffee seems to be difficult. Little pots are hard to control. I recently broke my right shoulder so the "camping" option is out. Also I always kept the top open while the water boiled and the coffee came up. There's a little screen in the shape of a tiny cup that goes on top of where the coffee comes out. I don't know the word in English so I can't search it. It was just "screen" in Italian which doesn't help. Can you help?

Have both and I prefer the stainless steel due to the fact it’s better quality. Used them for 5 months and the classic boaletti corroded and had to be thrown away. The stainless steel is still going strong. My experiences and others can be different.

I have the Venus 6 cup and we had this 4 cup in my old house. It's a big improvement on the famous Decagon shaped design; screws together easier, better spout that deals with enthusiastic pouring better, and the central tube points the coffee down, so should you check it early, you don't spray the kitchen in coffee.

I'm a big fan of your videos, and I'd love to see you compare a couple of portable espresso makers. I'm very interested in the Minipresso GR by wacaco, compared to the Handpresso. The minipresso is a newer product so it's hard to find many direct comparisons between the two, and it'd be awesome to hear an opinion from a knowledgeable source. Thanks!

Stainless steel > aluminum, particularly if you are like me and are too lazy/impatient to let the thing cool down sufficiently enough to be able to handle/unscrew the thing to clean and wash the parts. You don't want to let the coffee residue to sit for too long in the reservoir or the hopper as the grinds and liquid are quite acidic....... and we all know what acid does to aluminum. Sure, acid can eventually corrode even stainless steel, given enough time and the right temperature conditions..... but at least stainless steel is a bit more resilient to corrosion than aluminum, especially when we're talking about the level of thickness used for construction of the pots. I also mentioned this elsewhere on other KZbin videos, but I do two types of grind...... 'normal' and 'espresso' (aka fine to extra fine). I make 3 layers in the hopper: normal - fine - normal...... so, kind of like a sandwich. This allows slightly more pressure to build up than normal. It does trigger the release valve a few times, but at least it is doing its job.... and I get a stronger brew.... which I like.

There is another reason that stainless is WAY better than Aluminum. Aluminum conducts heat too well and can over heat your grounds a bit if you heat the water from cold with the unit fully assembled. That is what I am told by the experts at least. Stainless is a comparatively poor heat conductor and there are no worries about over heating your grounds before the brew starts. Stainless is vastly superior to aluminum in every way for this application. 😀

the aluminum ones work well if you have soft water, but if the water has a lot of minerals in it the lower boiling pot corrodes rapidly..

Alper Tunga Özcan . stainless steel! The older original aluminum will produce corrosive peals within 6m. That complaint alone made the company come out with stainless.

I love lattes and Spanish coffee. I have a Rancillio Silvia with Rocky grinder. I also have the 12 oz. Bialetti original. Using the proper grind and very good beans there is no difference in end product. Save yourself a thousand dollars and grab a Bialetti.

This didn't really answer questions about pros and cons of stainless versus aluminum (I think the aluminum makes coffee much faster than the stainless models). Bialetti's site also says not to put even the aluminum models in dishwashers. Are all the parts inside aluminum? Or is the filter basket the same as the old aluminum model? It also doesn't talk about cleaning. I've tried these since the 1980s and they always seem to have cooked coffee oils and off flavors within just a week or so. Some Italian guy did a great video about prying out the gasket and cleaning all the black junk in there that otherwise you'd be drinking, but nothing about that here. How to clean? Pros and cons of aluminum versus stainless. Also, I know it's not true espresso, but when new before those oils build up it's a pleasant alternative. They also have the Brikka model that supposedly makes crema. They used to have a 2 cup and 4 cup version. Now just the 2 cup version. Did it simply not work with the 4 cup version? Two cups isn't much when it's demitasse cups.

if a cuban coffee is made right. you can get somewhat of a crema. its more like frothy suger.

What about the Neapolitan? There are no videos of, any repute, on the "flip-pot", "Neapolitan" or "Cuccumella" anywhere on KZbin. Well, ones that aren't in Italian. I've a little ILSA model. It looks like a health and safety NIGHTMARE. If the thing comes apart mid-flip, it looks like 3rd degree burns to me.

@@christga100 I'm currently unable to drink coffee, due to certain unusual things unrelated to coffee. I'd say that neapolitan is of a different quality than moka but neither is superior. On using water from a kettle, it's still near boiling water. So, if the neapolitan pot were to come apart mid flip, the results could be scalding, either way. Another method that's similar but safer is the Vietnamese phin filter (cheap), with Vietnamese coffee (Weasel brand), prepared in the traditional Vietnamese way - research it. It's definitely different and they like putting sweetened condensed milk in it.

@@christga100 Thanks, as do I. Vietnamese coffee beans are robusta but are a much higher quality than the stuff used in instant. They've got a thin sugar coating, as the beans are roasted at a lower temperature. I'd say it's bitter sweet, in a good way.

lots of videos on bialleti...theyre all like 2 minutes long..like: water here, coffee here, screw together, hot. How they stretch them to 2 minutes I don't know! I know this, I have one and the coffee it makes is serious and wonderful...all on the dirt cheap.

If you don't use this pot according to instructions, it makes terrible coffee. Part of those instructions include using the proper amount of coffee. You can make the coffee properly, pour 2-ounces in a cup, then dilute it with hot water (approx 190-degrees) to create an Americano. 4-ounces of water will create a 6-ounce cup of coffee which is a typical cup your probably used to drinking. The nice thing about using this method is that you can experiment with different amounts of water until you find the mix that gives you the flavor you love the best.

There's nothing bad about milk. You probably heard about cappuccino... But if you insist, it's not a spresso anyway. Not at 3 bars for sure.
