I’ve got the same bike in a 59 frame. It’s currently running Ultegra Di2 but I’ve just collected the entire Super Record EPS gruppo and will be swapping out soon. I’m also running Zipp 303 Firecrest wheels with Vittoria Corsa 2.0 graphene tires. Looking forward to completing the build and hopefully a break in the wet and cold winter weather! Thanks for the inspiration and I’m glad you’re enjoying the bike. Cheers!

Lovely bike. Some will never understand why anyone would spend that kind of money, which is fair enough. My non bike friends think I’m crazy but compared to racing cars, it’s good value and keeps the old ticker going. Hoping to get my new build finished March (about a year after pushing the button on ordering). Custom builds are great fun. Shame waiting times on bits just crazy at the mo.

Got an ex demo unit XR4 Disc (pristine, has about a hundred miles) with Dura Ace Di2 and Vision 55 SC wheels for about 5500 pounds. It’s astonishing how stable and planted it feels even in strong gusts. The freewheeling also caught me by surprise. It just rolls so effortlessly. But at the end of the day, it’s not leaps and bounds above my 2016 Merida Reacto Team with Dura Ace 9000 and Campagnolo Bora Ultra 50 tubulars. That bike is also wonderful and it’s really hard for me to justify the extra 3500 grand for the Oltre. However. The Oltre was the first bike in years that felt perfect and like a superbike. Not even my former Trek Madone SLR comes remotely close to this feeling. Some things are just not quantifiable. :)

That bike looks absolutely stunning with its unique colour and it does have a matching hefty price tag 🏷 you must secure that bike and don’t bring it to London Richmond park. Pedal power combined with petrol power makes this channel distinctively unique and I am loving it.

That's a lovely bike. I built and rode a pair of Bianchi XL-EV2 with Record back in 2000 which were light and comfortable but had a short life because of the aluminium seat tube eventually fatiguing. It was the same type of bike that Pantani & Mercatone Uno were riding at the time. The bottom bracket area used to sway from side to side under power on the big ring. Later I built up a replica of the Bianchi S9 Matta that Backstedt won the Roubaix on. I've still got that one as my winter bike, the change from aluminium to titanium made a big difference in comfort and a huge one in longevity. I can crash it too without writing it off unlike a carbon frame. I now ride a bespoke carbon IF with Super Record and it's another level but it was made to measure. Instead of comparing group sets or grams saved the most important factor I think is getting a bike fit. I know you mention this and it's something you've done but so many people don't. It's free watts. It's more comfort. You're more aero. I like having my elbows at 90 degrees whilst in a tuck, your bars look further away than mine are. The only thing I'd probably change on mine is to get disc brakes, I've been on the far side of 60mph many times on descents in French mountains.

I've got an XR4 rim brake which I rode for the first time on the road yesterday, I've also got a Noah Fast, both Di2, so one is about 5. 5k the other 9k. Yesterday 110km. 1000m climb at 34.5 kmh, I've done the same ride on the Noah at about the same speed, difficult to compare speed due to temp wind speed etc. The XR4 feels really plush, agree it dampens out all the ride vibration but it's not lazy, it feels really responsive just like the Ridley. One comment ditch the sequential changing it'll slow you down. Mine weighs 7.4 kg without pedals. BTW I didn't pay 9 for mine I got it second hand from a lad who could nt ride it due to injury but it's basically brand new. It's not about the cost it's about the value you derive from it

I built up my dream bike a couple of years ago, with quotes of £12,000+!!! I eventually built it up by shopping around, eBay, etc for under £8,500!!! I had a Colnago C60 with Campagnolo Super Record EPS, Bora Ultra tubular wheels, silk tubulars, Look pedals(upgraded to Ti ceramic!), Deda Alanera in- tegrated bars/stem, Selle Italia carbon saddle, Campagnolol Super Record bottle cages, etc! It is a real looker with plenty of jealous faces! Unlike you, I also spend on the clothing, too, with over £4,000+ spent on top end hand-made kit from Italy & Spain!

There are so many of the bits on your bike that I can agree make the difference- frame stiffness, tubeless comfort, great wheels and bearings - even if my rear hub wakes up the neighbours on a Sunday ! - they all add to the mix. 😎

2 mph faster would be huge ! If I could get an uplift of 2mph on my averages then it would be £13k well spent. It certainly sounds fast. If it feels faster it probably will be. Reduced rolling resistance, a stiffer frame, with some improved aero must add up to some extra speed. The psychological effect of riding something that nice, must be worth an extra 10% 😁. I’m liking the new Ribble Ultra. I’m getting very tempted, your videos are not helping me resist

That’s a good looking trick piece of bicycle engineering. The Bianchi bikes are as far as I know the only make that has a factory color. A color that makes it immediately recognisable. That’s great brand recognition. I ride a 2004 TREK Madone 5.2, which is basically Lance Armstrong’s TDF bike from 2003. I spent quite a bit of money on the bike at the time and have found no reason to replace it until recently. The combination of precise electronic shifting, hydraulic disc brakes and ceramic bearings may be the motivation I need to give myself a retirement present. One of my reasons to avoid Campagnolo has been the freewheel noise. Too loud, actually so loud that to avoid it, I’d have to keep peddling 😁. What is the freewheel noise on your bike like ?

I think Your bike's great👌👍❤there's so much to like about it. Thank's for sharing the build process & riding video I thought was pretty good too. I've ridden a couple of alloy road bike's & found that the stiffness of the frame & front forks helps a lot for confidence in cornering downhill, going around tight bends & getting power through the cranks to the back wheel. I dream of one day, owning a nice carbon road bike, but for now I'll settle for my trusty Trek.

I would say we are pretty much the same size (although currently I’m somewhat heavier 😳) but your bike looks pretty much the same dimensions as my road bikes. Just seen title Sunday Cycle PODCAST. I can answer the question in the title. It’s a ten percent racier better feel 8k-16k over a circa Ultegra 2.5k bike day Decathlon pre Covid prices . I own SLR Emonda 9000DA and German AX lightness. Isn’t over 6 kilo it’s epic and wasn’t too dear, kept build cheap-ish. Base was a 3k used bike and groupo and then 1500 for german wheels…. I also own ALR Alu Emonda on 105Shim and old 2k 2013 Bontrager wheels. The latter my winter bike rides 2kph slower due to winter tyres and heavier c.2 kilo. Winter bike feels rides plush supple still rides sporty amazing. The SLR rides super darty feels faster. Is faster. In real world they’re both ace. I love winter bike so it’s kinda pointless having a summer bike. Snappy / sharp / fun spritely / responsive is how I’d sum up summer bike. It really is so close now tho.

I don't know about anybody else, but I feel cheated, Pete rides in leg & arm warmers so we can't see his tarantula limbs & no record of him donning the lycra. 😉 That's the negatives out of the way, other than your aero bike has ROUND water bottles. C'mon mate, lift your game, or were they empty? 🤣 Now on with the good stuff that I picked up on. Ceramic bearings throughout the complete drivetrain? 😳 The single lever electronic control shifts both front & rear derailleurs for PERFECT transition throughout the ratios. WHaaaaaat. And you want to know what gear you're in? The tubeless tyres run at lower pressure, & in my opinion should contribute to a more comfortable ride, while also ACTUALLY lowering the rolling resistance. How good is that? All control tubes & cabling are COMPLETELY invisible, unlike traditional inner tube cable routing. How much aero difference it makes is debatable, but it definitely looks stunning. USB charging port, hopefully, USB C, accessed at a bar drop cap. Nice. Your legs didn't splay when pedalling, full credit to Paul & the fit kit. 👍 Your arms have a nice slight, but aligned bend to them, again credit to Paul & the fit kit. The front "compact" chainrings weigh fractionally less BUT mean the rear gear cassette can be smaller too, again giving a slight weight reduction. Enough, I need another feast of Petrol Ped goodness. Catch you later.

A question, maybe for Paul (who incidentally, sold me my first proper bike, and got me hooked). I appreciate, and agree that weight isn't everything, but as you say yourself, a bike of this quality is about every little detail adding up, and I suggest weight is as much a factor as for example ceramic bearings. I have just ordered a Scott Addict Ultimate, RRP around £11k (SRAM Red, Zipp 353, Quark Power meter...) with a spec weight as configured of 6.7kg. Trek's Emonda is similarly under 7kg. You say the Bianchi is "a little over 8kg". Where is the extra weight, when compared to say the Addict, or a top spec Emonda? I guess I just don't understand the extra 1.x kg.

Great series of videos. I live in Edinburgh and spoke with Paul a few weeks ago regarding a potential custom build Bianchi. The main issue I'm wrestling with is whether to go with the Specialissima as a more all round road and light weight climbing bike, or do as you have done and go full aero with the xr4. I'd be interested to hear whether or not you considered the Specialissima, and what ultimately dictated your decision to go for the xr4?

I think we get the answer after 1 second of video here just looking at his hoodie. £13K is a 700% uplift of the actual cost so feel free paying for it people.

In light of COP 26 I think you've now invented another channel that could be called 'Pedal Ped' ☺

Was wondering why a cycling channel carries the word "petrol" in its name. Then, the words the presenter uses to describe the bicycle parts such as "gear changer" (which is usually known as the shift lever), explains that he obviously mostly deals with automotive matters.

A proper racing cyclist would never have the front ring changer and the rear derailleur mechanism working together. Coming towards a short hill it is more efficient and much less chance of losing your chain to just leave the big ring and just cross chain if nessassary until over the top, a racing cyclist has enough power with the large rear cassette range to not change the front derailleur usually, especially a time triallist. On longer ascents use the smaller chain ring if needed. All the aerodynamic benefits of this expensive bike can be trumped easily on a cheaper bike with clip on time trial bars. On that bike you look like a parachute collecting air as a recreational cyclist usually does.

I would only buy a power meter if I was training for an event based on my FTP, which as yet I’m not. Other wise it’s totally pointless 😜👍

$17,000 USD for a push bike? Bwahahahah.. Laughed so hard some pee came out. You know you're wealthy when you can spend that on a deadly treadly.
