Growing up in church I was never popular, handsome or rich. I saw many girls going after the jerks, the popular, and the rich. Me and other good Christian friends didn't stand a chance. Now I see many of those women divorced and having all kinds of problems in life. My friend said that he actually enjoys to know that they had marriage problems. He/ she cannot do it without the consent of the other spouse .1 Corinthians 7:5 But that is all . For the rest , the wife must submit to her husband in everything because he is the head of the wife . If mutual submission was true , then it would mean that the wife is the head of the husband , which makes absolutely no sense at all . Mutual submission is a heresy rooted in feminist rebellion . When I read the comments coming from other men in this discussion, I am alarmed to see certain common attitudes. I see arrogance and rudeness. I see an assumption that God gave husbands to the right to be the bosses and controllers of their wives. I see men a blindness to consistent teachings and themes in the Gospels. Jesus consistently condemned brutal fundamentalism although the terminology was different. They were called Pharisees and Blind leaders. Jesus consistently supported persecuted women against brutal self righteous men who quoted the bible to support their authoritarian bullying. ANSWERING Bill Derham Although it is very wrong for a man or woman to maliciously intentional and consistently criminally assault their children the Bible teaches that the Christian spouse can not divorce except for sexual immoralities, fornication, adultery etc. But the Bible also tells us to keep the peace we can separate leave or move away from that situation then come back together again when the issue is truly resolved and worked out. So Biblical advice to a family in that situation would be for the parent that is not the abuser to leave the house with the children and pray for their spouse to get help and for God to move on their behalf while suffering being in a different location where there is no harm or have the abuser leave the house. Which will do one of two things if the abuser didnt realize what they were doing because of whatever reason it will help make them aware of how serious the problem is and if they truely love their family it will help convict their heart and do whatever it takes to get their family back whether its counseling, parenting classes, etc. because some people have baggage, wrong teachings about how to discipline from past teachings or experiences and they think that what they are doing is right and is part of love, growing a child up. The other thing the seperation might do is, if they are not willing to change it might send them into marital unfaithfulness by seeking another relationship and committing sexual immoralities , which Biblically now gives a believer the right to divorce but even then you need to ask God who might still want you to stand for your marriage by faith to be restored. Or they might get a divorce without them committing sexual immorality which means in God's eyes you both are still married if you are both believer"s because there was no biblical ground for the divorce, unless they are an unbeliever then it does not matter if its sexual imoralities or not we are not bound as believers in those situations to stay with an unbeliever if they want to divorce for any reason but as believers we are not to seek a divorce but let them go if they want to and even then you still pray an ask God because He might still want you to stand for your marriage to be restored before the divorce and after the divorce because All things are possible if its His will and if we believe.

Clearly "loving" God because you don't want to go to hell is different than loving God because you fell in love. I think there is a similarity with marriage - life has "bad" or "tough" spots, whether you are alone or married. NothingButTheTruth Well this has been a BIG doctrinal change for me but i am so happy i got to the truth. The gifts and callings of God are without repentance so yes some men and women are called by God to biblical plural marriage, eg David, Jacob and many more in scripture where caused to have plural families. I had been brainwashed by our western culture and years in evangelical church community that plural marriage had been done away with by God after Jesus came, but no where in scripture dose it forbid or say plural families are bad or sinful and some of our most celebrated heroes of the faith had plural families. Now we all know Mormonism and Islam are evil false religion that abuse and oppress women. I am talking about christian plural families. Some are called to be celibate, some are called to merry, some are called to marry more than one wife, and it is good and blessed by God. As i have studied this my understanding is that many bible scholars admit and agree plural marriage in not forbidden or sinful according to scripture, but they refuse to publicly admit it because of the political fallout, That is what i call a "coward"! The teachers need to stop adding to and taking away from Gods word! God gives strict instructions on what sexual relations are acceptable and those that are not. God even gave instructions on how to conduct family relations if a man takes an additional wife, does God participate in sin? It was the Roman empire and Roman catholic church that forced "one man one women only marriage on society" so it is actually a pagan custom to refuse plural families as legitimate. Paul cautioned men and women to remain celibate, than stated basically if you are horny it is better to merry than to not satisfy that desire, and he went on to "recommend" staying a one man one women family but he qualified what he said as a recommendation not a "rule" or "Law". Paul new better than to contradict or change Gods word that was already established. So God never closed the door on plural families! One example of a modern plural christian family that i listened to there testimony was this husband, who felt called or compelled to bring another wife into the family, well his wife was upset and wanted nothing to do with that at first, but the holy spirit softened her heart and gave this husband and wife individual understanding of who the lady was to join there family, They asked this lady to be a sister wife and she joined the family, turns out the first wife has had 9 kids but the 2nd wife is unable to conceive, so the wisdom of God should be obvious in this family. God knows best we need to accept his word and stop manipulating the scripture to fit our culture.

I can't answer for those men. I can however say this; no man, in any situation should abuse a woman. In MARRIED western couples, women initiate PHYSICAL abuse just as often as men. However, their physical weakness means they usually wind up with more damage. As a physician I see men with broken bones and other trauma from their wives. If they call police they're laughed at. The only man who told me where the police arrested the wife, it was a woman cop who took him seriously. As to verbal abuse, that's difficult to quantify but in my experience, FAR more common from wives than husbands. I'm married 35 years. Most churches are just as gynocentric as the western world. Now, in non western cultures, it's quite different, as in most of history.
