How was it,? This makes me want to read it. Just read it, it's pretty good. Honestly the video here gave me different expectations than what I read.
Well, reading the original work, it's kinda hard to not think of wonderland as some weird dimension where logic basically doesn't apply and there's loads of vague, scary things and you can get killed easily just by meeting the wrong people, so yeah, it always was kinda hellish.
@ileonardoi3791 Жыл бұрын
Did... did this archetypal "pure girl" win against the evil entities that wanted to consume her!? I was sure until the end that this would be a cautionary tale of sorts, but she lowkey heard the "warnings" of that thing and said "bet." AND ACTUALLY ESCAPED WHOLE AND WITH A S M I L E . THAT'S ACTUALLY SO BADASS
@TheMickellPickell Жыл бұрын
Alice's determination is honestly both inspiring and downright disturbing. The question of the whole series is "Why is she SO determined to escape this place, despite knowing that supposed *sudden death* awaits?" and then when you reach the 8 chapter mark (roughly where this animation ends), you are left wondering "Why was she able to escape, when everyone else couldn't?". The answers lay in the source material~

This way of animating the original panels looks a bit weird at first, but with further visionings (and after reading the manga), it's actually really cool Every movement looks off, too smooth, making the characters and scenes slide like ghostly beings. But that just goes SO well with the unsettling atmosphere of Bibliomania ! It looks a bit like a puppet show, you know - every element moves on its own with a mechanical vibe. Which greatly enhances the 'weird, but beautiful too' feeling we get from the original material .
@TheMickellPickell9 ай бұрын
My animation style is heavily dependent on the puppet tool so most of my animations do tend to look like a Wayang performance, though this one I deliberately made characters glide around the screen with stiffer motions to really emulate that effect. I wanted this MMV to feel like a pop-up book so I'm glad that your take-away was similar to what i had envisioned in the edit.

BIBLIOMANIA MOMENT !!!!! mickell you are so goated with the sauce for this one istg ok but like seriously this is just so good??? maybe it's just your experience with animating the mia manga, but the fact you're able to animate even the most detailed of panels and still make it look good is so fucking cool man, plus the presentation is really good, it quick to fit on pace with the song and yet leaves a trail of mystery regardless with the lack of dialogue that provides most of the context behind what's going on lol it makes the manga feel even more like one of those dreams where it's logic is so strange and bizarre but you can't help but follow along as it warps and twists into ways you didn't think were imaginable to the eyes, but the human conscious is more vivid than we typically perceive it as, so too can the same be said about the human desire, even at it's worst... also putting together the greatest living show and bibliomania??? actual giga-brain move it fits so well and i never realized it until now the hard-work you put into these videos is very admirable dude, keep up the good work man! :D

You're SUCH A GIGA-CHAD! Every single video I swear to god, you're far too generous for your own good brother! This is a short, psychological-horror manga called "Bibliomania". Unfortunately there is no english physical release, but you can find high quality english translations on Mangakalot and Mangadex. While I wouldn't want to spoil the series, I'll give you the VERY basic premise: A girl name Alice awakens into a white room, when a serpent figure approaches her and says she can have whatever she wants providing she stays in her room. But for some reason she protests and is insistent on leaving this world of dreams. However, the further from her original room she is, the further her body will begin to dis-configure itself. The point being that this world is meant to trap its inhabitants by fulfilling their dreams and desires. The question is, why would Alice want to escape such a blissful world? And who are the other occupants who reside in such a realm? Those are the main, driving factors of this story. Unfortunately its an INCREDIBLY underground story, as it never took off as a manga. I'm hopeful this video will help inspire more people to give it a read. Because despite it being so short, it says so much in such a short amount of time.

okay, I'm gonna read Bibliomania after writing this but, just so that I don't lose my train of thought, I'm posting it here. I love the choice of song for this. To me, The Greatest Living Show feels like a young girl being coerced and trapped into a job that eventually tears her apart. And from what I gleam from Bibliomania here, it feels like it could be that. Alice is archetypal, in most if not all panels shown, she doesn't speak, nor does she even think or voice her thoughts. She is a one dimensional character with one goal: to get back to her reality. She represents girlhood and its determination, the drive that many have felt before it gets stomped out and killed by outside forces. The antagonist seems to be exactly that. They feel reminiscent of a larger thing that rots and kills young girls, coercing them into playing their games. It's similar to Kyubey's role in Madoka Magica, where he coerces girls who are either dying or desperate to make wishes and exploits them; letting their morales and minds rot before exploiting them again when they become witches. That's all I have to say. Thanks so much for making something so cool! Can't wait to read and binge all of Bibliomania because of this. :D

I wont say much because I don't wish to spoil your experience with this incredibly underrated piece of fiction. All I will say is that if you enjoy the existentialism that is Madoka Magica, then I think you're going to have a really wonderful time with this. Keen to hear your thoughts after you read it! Thanks for watching :) I'm glad this video is helping to bring attention to this really awesome manga

been a few days and i don't know how to really wrap my head around it. But honestly I love it. I love how weird it is, I love how much of the human experience we manage to see through wishes... it really highlights what an outsider's viewpoint would be if they viewed humanity through the books like Alice and the Serpent did. I also did not expect for her to transform into something so terrifying in its sheer magnitude, and also the thing that sorta ties them together (fhe serpent tail on both of them, a physical indication that they are the serpents to humanity's collective "Eve") Honestly don't have much to say other than: - It's weird in so many good ways. - The visuals match its writing so well in its absurdity - I need to read it all over again.

I think that girl has strong courage and curiosity. No matter how rotten and crumbling and time passed, she could be renewed until the end because the various experiences she had were not all bad. She hasn't changed
