Just some basic EQ'ing on the BICs. Much easier than rebuilding the crossovers but not necessarily better BUT good enough to make a noticeable improvement. This can be done rather cheap these days under $100, cheaper than a decent component EQ and WAY more abilities.

I spoke to an audio engineer that has designed several top rated high-end speakers. He said the DV62si is extraordinarily accurate for a speaker pair under $250. He suggest a 4-ohm resistor on the positive tweeter lead if you want to smooth out the high-end. Simple; remove the tweeter then add the resistor, reinstall. I did this and the results were amazing. Midrange still very open and holographic but high end is smoother with no loss in detail.

I have a pretty heavy audiophile background, and have had very pricey systems back in the day (meaning before marriage/kids!). I picked these speakers up in the complete surround system for a home theater. And for that purpose they and the sub and center were fantastic. But for music, I was disappointed. Until I moved and moved them into a new room that was much more heavily dampened with wall-to-wall rug drapery, etc. I expected the home theater experience to be good, and it was. But was shocked to hear them with music. All of a sudden, they sang. So experimented more. In other words, I put more time into setting them up correctly. Moved them away from the back wall, etc. I have to say, I was blown away. These are no different than any speaker at any price. If you do not place them properly they will not shine. Not all speakers placed well shine, but these do. I have not experience the overly bright high end as many talk about, so it was interesting to see your readers do not back that up. Neither do my ears. As to the bottom, well, they are still bookshelf speakers, even if on the large side. I think the base is reasonable for their size, and if you want more, add a sub. Which I have and it works wonderfully. Thank for the video and work, very informative! BTW, I recall getting my B&W 802's decades ago. They were around $8,000 for the pair and came with a print out of the individual reading from my pair. While B&W are known to be very flat sounding, the graph was no flatter than when these BICs are showing in your test. Meaning, the graphs are good and helpful, but at the end of the day, it's about what we hear.

Someone gave me one of these UMM-6 mics. What software, besides REW, can be used along with the UMM-6 to create a signal and then interpret the input signal? I just want to create some FRD files, but I don't understand how to use this mic or what software is used for speaker measurements.

How would your use equalizer apo for a center channel speaker too

that mid section got fixed quite nice... did you attempt to take a few measurements around your listening position? it may be that speaker or listening area repositioning could solve some of the response issues (like the 63Hz).. that is preferable instead of drastic EQ shaping. one reason is increased distortion when a speaker is asked to play that much louder certain fqs. (as we know +3dB requires doubling the power, and distortion gets more pronounced as power/cone movement increases)

Some of it was room placement and treatment. Later on after doing nore room and treatment and moving them about 24" off the wall then measured from my listening position it helped. Also going a bit off axis so tilting them back out a bit about 10° helped with the highs. Still had to pull the middle up a bit but no doubt these are great budget speakers with a bit of EQ. I'd recommend a calibrated mic and REW over the more expensive xover upgrade. Much easier and better results. But hey I'm a DSP guy...

you should put at preamp gain to -8.9db because you now have a peak 8.9db...this peak gain must be 0.0db (at Analysis paanel)

how do these perform with the audio crossed out at 120hz for a sub though?
@iowaudioreviews
@iowaudioreviews 3 жыл бұрын
They should actually perform better removing that low end duty on the woofers. Should be able to play louder without as well since the woofer won't have to move as much not dealing with low frequencies.

@@iowaudioreviews don't you think you should test them this way since these are actually sold with a powered sub also made by BIC .... These seem to be decent for a 2.1 setup, like for a computer. It would be nice if you actually tested them properly! I would hope that you actually have interest in providing information rather than brand-shaming like many other KZbinrs do!

@@andiarrohnds5163 I usually don't because most people that buy these don't pair them with a sub. I have tested them with a sub myself as I have with all the bookshelf speakers I have reviewed. But more often than not most people (general consumer) don't pair with a sub and even if they do they don't implement LFE or a high pass filter so its a wash. Most of the time with typical bookshelf speakers a highpass filter and a sub always makes things better.

@@iowaudioreviews yo these are meant to be paired with the Bic Venturi v1220.. in fact these shell speakers and the power sub are both on sale together at parts Express.com .. but other than the sale these are actually meant to be paired together yes the sub seems excessive but it actually works. Not sure why you're pretending these aren't meant to be paired with the Venturi sub but whatever man.. if I were be doing this at least I would personally be more interested in providing as much information as possible and doing it accurately haha. But it's cool
@iowaudioreviews
@iowaudioreviews 3 жыл бұрын
@@andiarrohnds5163 Because I've read about these over and over for years and its never been mentioned they're supposed to be paired with any specific sub NOT EVEN ON BICs website! Thats probaby why, and I wouldn't use that sub anyway. Yeah there's a whole Venturi line that can be used togather many brands do this doesn'tean ya should. BIC is typically garbage, here and there they do good for the price but thats it. The only BIC subs I'd recommend are the F12 and Acoustech 12 otherwise theres better budget subs.
