Biceps seems like a mostly defensive tool. Also, mostly isometric. Being super strong isometric bicep will help produce a stop along with your other musculature. But won’t produce the drive to the winning side of the table. You make a really good point.

2:48 I don't do supinated biceps curls much, if at all, but I disagree on your statement on hammer curls. You don't necesserily do them just to be able to obtain a downpressure from an opponent, but also to be able to " HAMMER " through the opponent's wrist and fingers if he tries to supinate you or just contain you. Also this will help you to maintain the elbow angle you're most efficient with. I believe most fans of the biceps curls just benefit from the tendon stimulation they are doing on the area, but I agree there're better ways than the mentioned approach.

I train my biceps on a preacher bench because they are the weakest link in my backpressure chain. I don’t pull dominantly with them, but they fail before my hand and wrist does, so in order for me to toproll someone and use my shoulder power I need biceps to stabilize and keep my shoulder commitment

Hey Todd, thanks for the insight. I mostly agree with you. However there are many examples most notably Levan who seems to train heavy biceps vary regularly and he has a lot of success. I am aware that he obviously trains his hand and wrist a lot. But he wouldn’t be training biceps so much if he didn’t believe in the carryover to the table. I guess what I’m saying is, do you think the reason he trains biceps so religiously is because it stylistically is beneficial for him? Or do you think that if he trained other things other than biceps he would be even stronger?

As a posting toproller, i would argue that a good biceps improves your hit (without the strap). If the opponent lets you load alot, bicep strength is important. I would say all strength is important but in a hierarchy. I would never pick a strong bicep over a strong hand/wrist, but someone with a strong hand/wrist and a strong biceps got more power over all.

That's why I always tip Bask N Robbins 😃 knew there would be a Mr. Clean comment lol good stuff Todd. My philosophy, it's good to have a good bicep, but like everything, it comes down to tendons and static strength. All the strange small curls, negatives, all the good things to comprise what I believe is fundamentally important being flexion in your forearm. Like hinges vs joints. The pec, and bicep move only a few ways, the fingers and wrist, they move almost like a universal joint or ball joints on your hand and wrist. Aside from wrist and forearm, deltoid and shoulder side pressure strength I would find is far more important. Pulling is wayyyyyy greater than any lifting. If not completely superceding when it comes to arm wrestling development. Thank you Todd!

I have to slightly disagree. I remember getting into a grueling match at Sitdown Nationals, the guy took my hand but I sustained him with my bicep. He only won because he eventually stood up and dug into my wrist and the ref didn’t call it. The ref later on said he missed the call. Anyway, the next 3/4 days, my biceps were completely blown moreso than anything else. Of course Sitdown arm wrestling is different than stand up but yeah. Extra strong biceps have helped me progress in arm wrestling.
@Matt-ej1mb Жыл бұрын
I agree that maxing out on curls is useless but they are definetely involved.. the forearms is the most important but the brachialis / brachialis on a toproll and biceps on a hook ( expecially on a difensive position ) are massively important. If you are a side pressure kind of pullers i don't think they are that important thought.. but if you are like more of a defensive guy they play a big role. Devon pre Kings move was definetely using a lot of biceps tho

6030? Umm hmm...time to catch uncle Todd on his math 😂😂. Jokes apart, a question - what you mentioned about wrist wrench and lifting your PR one way made complete sense but what if people come into the sport with extraordinarily strong biceps and then forge their style around it? If we do a break down of armwrestling movements then what you say indeed is the most efficient way to get stronger in those movements but is it right that people develop their dominant styles based on some inherent strengths and if yes did your side pressure dominant style arose out of your particular strengths? Thanks for the content, sir. Always look forward to your videos. Have a great weekend.
@eeshan11382 жыл бұрын
@Harald Arnold-Larsen I agree with that. People will always work to strengthen their weakest link. At the same time, those people may already have a solid bicep training regimen and thus they keep incorporating that in their armwrestling routine and it being their strong suit, may develop a style surrounding their strengths too.
