This person is a literal Ink Ribbon Hero!

The last two colour inking machine I installed cost A$ 40'50,000 but that was 25 years ago, we didn't know very much in those days, but we did know enough to use IMPRESSION Fabric, we also used coloured inks that would reject one another so that we didn't get "bleeding" one colour into the other, I might add the inks were not ink pad inks , but inks prepared with specified viscosities to enable the inks to migrate between the fabric warp and weft..but then we didn't know very much in those days. almost forgot to tell, our impression nylon come in 900 yard reels, our machines were able to unwind , ink and rewind onto 900yard reels inked and ready for migration storage before us on the spooling machine but we didn't know very much

I spent slightly less. If you spot a supplier of impression fabric on a roll of an appropriate size please post a link , it's a common question on this video. I did try using a separator line of a resistive (forgotten what) liquid, I saw an old (100 year?) patent for keeping inks apart, the application of it was more trouble than the problem it was solving.or resisting. I suppose a new inked ribbon could be bought and then washed. I've noticed over the last decade that the internet seems to be reducing the available information . I did see some vague images of inking machines, that looked rather resource heavy wall of tool steel. Considering I spent the price of a happy meal, and got a result, that can be replicated by watching a few minutes of video. I hope to encourage people to experiment and see what works for them. Material specifications can be made equal to what is available, I hope that they don't excessively gunk up the segment and vibrator . It's a trade off between keeping an interest in the machines by using them. and gathering dust and being forgotten lost and discarded.

This video is pure gold since in my country I can not seem to order ribbons... Can you please tell me, what blank ribbon did you use? (the fabric) It can be found in the fabrics stores?
@crazygeorgelincoln6 жыл бұрын
OᐯI SᕮᖇGIᑌ its from arts and craft shop. Hobby craft. Tried to find the smoothest finest weave. They were all quite similar. Apart from the ones with hearts and stuff printed on them.

OK, so today I did it: I inked it and I let it outsinde in the sun to dry but it is still wet. What should I do? How did you made it usable after inking it?
@crazygeorgelincoln6 жыл бұрын
i didnt let mine dry, just rolled it up on spool, and let the oily ink even itself out.

Hey! I want to ink my ribbon meself cause I want the right color. So I bought fountain ink and glycerin. Do you know which quantity of glycerin I need to ad? Cheers :)
@crazygeorgelincoln5 жыл бұрын
Melvorgazh you don't want it to dry out . So just enough ink so the stuff makes a good mark on paper. Is my initial guess.

The original patent uses peanut oil. FYI.

Hi.. what's the key in the typewriter that you use to switch colors? Pls lemme know
@austinsilver61876 жыл бұрын
It’s not a key, it’s a leaver. Locate the leaver that has the colored dots on it. The black or blue dot is the top half of the ribbon, the red dot is the bottom, and the white dot is stencil. On most desktop models, the leaver is on the front face on the right, and most portables it’s on the right side of the keyboard.

Does it dry with time? or it stay wet? Thanks on advance
@crazygeorgelincoln4 жыл бұрын
it does dry a little bit, a lot depends on the ribbon, seem to remember it being good for months , under light use in a unheated room.

How on earth did you get a wooden platen?
@crazygeorgelincoln5 жыл бұрын
jeremynv89523 it came like that. This royal 10 MK2 14" was originally made in 1919. When I got it it had a peeling crincle finish paint. Crincle finish was popular around ww2 onwards as typists got less reflected glare from desk lamps. This machine was remanufactured somewhere in the war era,a time when materials were scarce,make do and mend ect ,rubber was a scarce material, so cork was used as an alternative. I have seen I used on some underwood typewriters also.

el material de la cinta en blanco es nylon, algodon, que tipo de tela?

The text is ok. It is a little fat . (If this is the wrong answer to the question I will correct it ) 😀

muy bueno, quiero hacer una cinta de 16 mm. de ancho, con que material la puedo hacer? gracias
@crazygeorgelincoln4 жыл бұрын
Hi super Mario. Today I have no access to computer to translate. I will check later. My guess is your asking about materials used. They are from hobby superstore Hobbycraft, ribbon if from sewing department, it's more glossy and thick than what I wanted ,it's synthetic. Is the only thing they have in the correct size. The colour is foam pad, for rubber stamp. It's an oily ink. Thank you for your enquiry, I will look more thoroughly when I have more than a phone to look on.

@@crazygeorgelincoln yes, The material of the tape, is cotton nylon ????
@crazygeorgelincoln4 жыл бұрын
@@supermario326 definitely not cotton, i have maybe nylon or a woven acrylic . If I could find silk I would try that. Everything in the shop was made of plastic.
