After several months how long did the ink last on the ribbon? With water based did it dry out quick?

I just checked for you! It's very very very faint. I think picking water based inks led to it drying out much quicker

This process seems simply delish! I’ve thought about inking my own ribbons before though the bichrome ribbon manufacturing seems super tricky. I’ll have to try to make some rainbow ribbon. Best of luck by the way with finding a platen knob for your Corona. I looked through my machines and those of some friends but couldn’t find any parts machines of the 5 series corona. Always love watching your videos!

I don't recall that real typewriter ribbon ink was ever particularly "washable."

For next time, try brushing on ink from stamp inkpad reinkers using waterproof or archive ink, such as versafine clair, which has some great colours to choose from. It types well, doesn’t dry out too quickly and is just the right viscosity. Also, can use a glycerine spray or ink refresher to moisten typewriter ribbons, this can be as good as a reink if the ink has dried out. 😊

Hmmm: $18.76 was too expensive and now there are 12 used ink pads lying around (for further testing)? I'm still calculating whether the $18.76 wouldn't have been cheaper... - oh and the unsaturated band at $8.00 isn't included, and gloves, and time... - nevertheless I left a subscription because the presentation came across as so friendly and I generally like the “typewriter” theme. - I would probably have done the "self-experiment" in exactly the same way if I had wanted a rainbow ribbon, just for the joy of making it by myself. I live in Germany and have four typewriters: AEG Mignon (1917), KLEIN-ADLER (1925), Mercedes 6 Express (1940) and Olympia SM3 (1958).

Ha! I bought one of these rainbow typewriter ribbons a few years ago. It was Luke Winter who sold those. Unfortunately his The Story Wagon project seems to occupy him so much that he doesn't have time to produce any. As far as I know he also had ribbons in the same colour group (like yellow, organge, red, scarlet).

Cool. I once created a line of combination typewriter/gift wrapping ribbons, but it didn’t work out. Suffice to say, people don’t want to wear gloves to wrap a birthday present.😔

Maybe the yellow, etc would show up better on a colored paper of some kind. I wonder how it would show up yellow ink on black paper.

, I thought ribbon is the issue so I bought a new ribbon and replaced it but I'm facing an issue.. when I start writing it prints dark but after a few words it gets lighter and lighter..

It sounds like the ribbon isn't advancing- it's just typing in the same spot. See if you can reverse the ribbon switch, switch the spools, and make sure they turn
