Great, thank you for sharing this secret trick. I have no idea how to use efficiently Bicorno before. It looks like this posta allows you to use this straight line trajectory to thrust with a two handed sword without bending your left arm in a weird and unconfortable position.

Guys, make sure you grab and marathon the film trilogy of Rûronin Kenshin this weekend!! Best kenjutsu stunt fights ever. Proper use of the weapon build too. No absurdity like edge on edge block and the like. Best wire work when th blades I've seen in ages too! Those guys are top gymnasts and excellent fencers. Beyond the show and anime visuel of the fights ( which are for once true to the manga fights) the mastery of their craft and the fight artistic an d martial direction is incredible. I hope you find the 3 movies and can share them with siniore Campobello. I've only seen Adorea provide audience with such a millimetered choreo using European fencing systems.

I see something very similar with Joachim Meyer's Rose, but he uses it to cut his opponent's chin after they leave a high bind. I also see that reversed hand position in Paulus Hector Mair, also associated with the Rose... I've started experimenting with changing side in a Longpoint bind to thrust in on the opposite side (cut from Right Middle guard and just as you're about to bind, shift into the reversed grip and your sword will circle around to bind on the opposite side - can be very sneaky, but I haven't gotten really good at it yet... :)

Hello! Nice video! At 3:32 when the punta starts before the bicorno. How is that posta/guardie called?
@MartinGreywolf4 жыл бұрын
This works in practice, looks like the pictures in the manuscript and also fits in nicelz with how posta longa is supposed to be full of deception and bicorno is supposed to be just like posta longa. That makes this interpretation as good as it gets. We even have the added bonus if it being able to defend both mandritto and reverso from above. My one question is, what are the Fiore-approved counters? Exchanging points seems tricky (and liable to get you a pommel in the face), breaking the point charges up a nasty counter cut, so maybe close in to grapple? Or try to keep your distance, deflect and hit the hands that are now fairly high?
@FedericoMalagutti4 жыл бұрын
Parry and grab, parry and sottano, parry and mandritto fendente are all good options.

I have tried this technique several times since you put it on your channel, in a Diestros fencing club in Spain. 100% satisfactory results even without having internalized the technique well. They still don't know what I'm doing to them, but I also have to say that I alternate them with the Falso Drito/Falso Manco to hit their hands.

Today, I have accidentally found a way to use bicorno to go around opponent's cover in a similar way to german Kronhau. I have not seen it anywhere on YT, but it seems to be working. First cut a simple fendente from posta di donna to longa. When you hit opponent's cover, switch to bicorno in a similar way as you show here kzbin.info/www/bejne/hn_alqp_adSEac0si=H-QrY-4lb9tlb15S&t=72 but without turning sword, and continue extending arms. The point of your sword goes naturally down, behind the opponents sword. Thus you can continue your cut, or turn it into thrust.

In ogni caso bellissimo video.
@FedericoMalagutti4 жыл бұрын
Essendo una posta con la punta estesa verso l’avversario si sovrappone in modo parziale alla longa ;-)

An observation: I was taught how to sling stones by a guy who grew hunted with slings. He showed me to not swing it repeatedly overhead but only once. He said this was because a squirrel would see the initial movement going away from him and would not be scared but then all of a sudden the direction would reverse and a stone would be upon him. This seems to be the same principle. The initial feint may not even be necessary.
@FedericoMalagutti4 жыл бұрын
Philip Bombard uhm, to be honest in my experience the feint is the only thing that stimulates the parry that expose the target so it is essential ;-)
@bombardboxing4 жыл бұрын
@@FedericoMalagutti in your clips of sparring there are several times when the technique is effective without a preliminary feint, the withdrawing of the sword being the feint itself. I am a big fan of feinting, though, so I don't disagree with you.

I know this video is almost 2 years old, but I still don't get it. How come your opponent doesn't hit you in the head while you convert into the bicorno? You feinted a high thrust, so their sword is high. How come they don't just bring their sword down onto you?
@saladarmeilcarmagnola76912 жыл бұрын
Yes, the foreseeable instinctive opponent reaction is in fact to blow to the head; but fortunately, there is an effective coverage given by the "advantage of ligament" (through the theory of the 5 methods for the gripping of the center in the opposing forces). In practice, the after blow is inhibited by the position of the bicorno itself.
@andusz55182 жыл бұрын
@@saladarmeilcarmagnola7691 Sorry about the misunderstanding; I was not talking about afterblows. This whole twisting motion after the feinted stab seems too slow and any opponent who didn't completely blind themselves by overreacting to the high thrust should in theory just bring their sword down and react

Why not do a feint trust then a real trust without the spin of the blade? The blade spin seems like wasted movement to me AND it opens you up for a counter.
@FedericoMalagutti4 жыл бұрын
Every action have multiple counters. This is a variation of the simple feint and thrust action, why it works? Because is different.
@jaketheasianguy33072 жыл бұрын
It makes you missed your timing. You were expecting a feint and a real direct attack, suddenly the sword suddenly spin and it will break your expectation, confused you and you got thrusted while your brain is processing the information. Of course if you got exposed to it many times or just watch an explation video you will think it's a wasted movement
