Watch the beginning of a detailed restoration and rebuilt of an old Sportbicycle from 1950 with new and some NOS parts.
Welcome to my second video - bicycle restoration no 2 - part I.
This time I restore or rebuild a „Stricker” Sportbicycle.
I got this bike very cheap from a collector in the neighboring village together with a Torpedo ladies bike last year.
The frame number is 479711. So it is from approx. 1950.
I did no further research because there is another focus on this project.
So it will be not a real restoration, but rather a rebuilt or a kind of restomod.
The hole rebuilt is divided into three parts.
In part I you will get to know the original bike. Pay attention on the beautiful shape of the frame and fork tubes (“hydroforming” from 1950) and other nice details. You will also see how it works (or it works not). Particularly interesting is the Fichtel & Sachs 3-speed derailleur and the fancy Wippermann front brake.
Finally you can see the complete disassembly. Only the frame, the fork and maybe the handlebar will be reused for this project.
But don’t worry, none of the other parts were thrown away!
Part II shows you the reshaping of the edges on the frame and fork after sandblasting and also some braze-ons. After that the frameset will get a fresh powder coating.
Besides of overhauling some parts like the front lamp you can also see the wheelbuilding with a nice pair of NOS hubs and Pacenti rims.
And in part III you can watch me how I put all this stuff together to a lovely bicycle. The final result will have some influences from old French bicycles (randonneur / porteur bike).
So stay tuned.
Also got a new cam, it’s a Sony FDR-AX53. It is great for close ups and fast movements.
The tools I use are from Gedore, Hazet, Wiha, Parktool and my grandfather.
If you have any questions about the video, the bicycle, the tools or the cam just ask me in the comments.
Hope you enjoy watching my new video.

I used to restore bicycles now and again a few years ago. I bought a classic racer with the same gearing as this one and knew nothing about the toggle chain derailleur gears so sold it. It was a 1959 carlton race bike. Looking forward to the next installment. I might learn about this type of gearing. I had been building and repairing my own bicicles since the 1970's. Not now though.

I'm very impressed with your thoroughness but in contrast it looked like a pretty clumsy removal of the seat post. I just finished rebuilding a Norwegian bike from 1944. It had been out in the weather near the ocean for many years. I'll tell you, removing screws and nuts was a whole other story than you show here.

Thanks for your comment! Only the frame and the fork will be left after the rebuilt. The drivetrain was from fichtel & sachs and is already sold, regret that already. The chain was in standard 1/2" x 1/8" size. Sorry english is not my first language. Greetings
