Spreading manure on Grass after completion of 3rd cutting of Grass. Things heat up when a bicyclist calls the police on the truck. Huge thank you to Carlisle Police Department for doing their job and being down to earth and realistic. It can be rather challenging farming in such a populated area and the general public having no idea of how a farm operates or how much cation to take when farm equipment is on the roadways.

This is a common problem. People move out to rural areas for the "charm" and then they start complaining about what the locals are doing. The worst part is once enough of them live there they will start to push out the locals and turn it into the places that they are "getting away from".

I live in a part of the UK which is all farming. One of the local farmers sold the farmhouse to raise money ( he had a smaller home nearby) with the caveat that it was attached to a working farm with all that entails. A woman from London bought the farmhouse, had extensive work done to it and moved in. She then tried to get a court order to stop the 'noise and activities' before 8am! It eventually went to the local magistrates court after much back and forth between solicitors. The magistrate on the day was a well known local farmer, he lectured this entitled townie for nearly 10 minutes, explaining that by 8am in the summer the farmer has already done 4hours of work and has at least 12 more before he can rest. The farmhouse was back up for sale a week later at the purchase price plus 100k and remained up for sale for two years with the price dropping incrementally. It eventually sold for 50k below what she paid for it. Guess who bought it? 😎

I heard a crazy farm story about someone moving from a city into a farming area. An old farmer sold his farm house but the farm land was being used by the neighboring farmer growing stuff on it. Plus the neighbor farmer was allowed to cut so many trees from the woods at the back of the farm for fire wood at the cost of letting the farm house get 20%-25% of the wood (because the main heat to the house was a fire place). Well man from the city didn't like the high land tax. So he sold his house an land and bought the farm house. Well when the neighboring farmer came over to introduce himself and to tell the new owner of the farm house the agreement that was done by the previous owner the city man did not like that. He wrote a new contract that states that the neighboring farmer can only cut down X amount of trees and he gets 50% of the wood. Also that the farmers can only use the farm land if the farmer pays him X amount of dollars per crop. Well the farmer didn't want to do that and didnt agree with the city guys contract. So the farmer never use the farm land that farming season and he never cut no trees. So the guy never got any more fire wood. So half way through the winter he had to heavly rely on his gas heater which cost him a lot and if he wanted fire wood he had to buy it. The next year the farm land was in horrible condition. The farmer called the county to get a tax assessor to come reevaluate the land and told him what the new owner was doing by not letting him use the land for farming. Well they came and checked it out for themselves. When it came time to pay on the land tax the city guy had to pay 2-3+ times more for land tax then he was in the city. He was mad and when he asked why they told him *"because you wasn't allowing the land to be used for farming anymore the land got switched from being agricultural land to residential property and agriculture land tax is low because the land is used for farming."*

@EAMitch I’m placing bets that most of what you are saying is irrelevant SovCit non-sense, in most places if an incident happens the cops will ask for your ID and you’ll be required to give it. This is so they can do a speedy investigation and get on their way. Yes he could detain everyone call them into the station and do a full investigation but the Cop know this is BS(Literally) and is just dotting the I’s and crossing the T’s. As countless lawyers have said “The time to argue abut your rights is not at the road side with a cop. You’ll never win that argument and you could get shot!” For the very few places where they don’t like the rule of law and don’t let cops check peoples I.D’s after an incident. Sorry to ignore your special pleading I can only go by the majority and the way that keeps bullets out of my body. IE: just give the cops my ID and keep communication to the minimum requirements to get the cop to move on.

@@pnwRC. That's .. that's sad. Here in Denmark, we obviously have a lot of bike lanes too, since it's flat land and short distances, so it's great for bicycling. But at least people use them here, I'd even dare say it's really unusual to see bicycles behaving badly here. On a more fun note, some americans once came over here with the intent of doing a "critical mass" event ... unfortunately, there wasn't enough of them, and they got swallowed up in the bicycle rush hour traffic. 🤣 Not a single newspaper wrote about the event. It was pretty funny. Even so, Amsterdam is the real bicycle central of the world.

My grandfather was a bible throwing fire and brimstone preacher man; my dad a 20 year Marine vet; the local cops knew better then to show up on some frivolous. I was riding with grandad once when some dude got mad because, well, you know, tractors don't do 70. He cuts us off, got out of his car and started to tell Grandad he had no business on the highway blocking traffic. Grandad was a big guy, 6'3", 250lbs with a big stash and bigger grin. Got down out of the tractor, holding his bible and proceeded to preach. Never laid a hand on the man but he turned several shade of red, then white, then got back in his car and drove off. When grandad climb back up he said, "Some folks feel the need to tell others the what's and how's of life. I just gave him some thoughts for his immoral soul." Grandad used to preach to unruly cows, too, and they'd become meek, too. Miss the old man, I do...

We have the same thing that goes on here in NJ. We moved here over 30 years ago we moved here with our two babies for a better place to raise our children .When we moved here we purchased our land and home right across and on the side of farm's and we knew what farmers do they farm and have tons of cows and another one has sheep and cows and hundreds of acres of land and corn field's that's what I see when I look out my window it's BEAUTIFUL in all these years we have never onces had any problems we all have some land so we aren't right on top of each other but you know the smells and the roads get covered in mud and manure sometimes but the farm's do their best not to but I always say to anyone that complains these farmers all have been here for generations and we LOVE it here so if the complainers don't like it to BAD !!!!! My house sits right across from huge field's that the hard working farmer plows from early morning till late late at night some time to get it done and he has his huge spot lights on so he can see and they shine right in my windows when he's headed for another pass . What I do is close the curtains and roll over and tell my wife those farmers are hard workers And my wife agrees we moved up here for this way of life so if any of those huge homes they built over looking these farm's don't like it GO back to the city and leave the farmers alone !!!!!! 🇺🇸

I enjoyed the ride, having moved out from southern California and the concrete. Here in Lodi, things are different. Life is better with cows and fields...spent time in my younger days tending herd and alfalfa fields. When the crews are out checking the crops or the vineyards, I stop to say hello. Plenty of times I got dirty lending a hand. That's what it's all about. As a mechanic, I'm not afraid to fix things up when I spot worn equipment or a leaking hydraulic line. I'll be back later with overalls and boots. Nothing's more fun than running into a group of guys, all kitted up with thousands of dollars in carbon fiber gear. I make a breakaway and show the kids what the old man can do. They ride on the weekends, and in the best weather. I tip my hat to you, I know what the work is like, moving irrigation lines just after midnight.

The problem, isn't that it will dry up and go away on its own. I know that, and you know that. The problem is that manure is usually corrosive, and damages paint and the undercarriage of vehicles. Thats one of the reasons why you are usually required to clean it up. Also if you get a light rain, it can become extremely slippery. Lets say you restored an old bently, and sunk a whole lot of money into it, and you had your paint fade or chalk out because a farmer decided to leave a mess on a public road. Or worse yet come around a curve and slide off of the road because manure sloshed over the side of a spreader? Be respectfull to your neighbors and the general motoring public. Clean it up, to the best of your abilities. Don't be a douche, and leave the mess.

But the farmers don't have more rights than everyone else. Just because you grow food, or participate in the growing of food, doesn't give you the right to spill a load on a public highway. Doctors save lives every day, so by your logic, they should just be given a free pass to break traffic laws? Careful, your "farmers privilege" is showing. A few years ago, in my hometown, a load of hay fell off the side of an overloaded truck, and caused an accident that killed a young mother. And all of the local farmers bullied the sheriff's department into saying it was a no-fault accident. Greed and not caring can have some very ugly consequences. And this all boils down to greed. He knew the truck was overloaded, so instead of unloading part of it, and wasting precious time and money, he took the load anyway. I am sending a link of this video to the professional standards people where they cop is from. That driver should have been ticketed. I would be willing to bet that if that truck had been hauling non agricultural products, and spilled, their would have been a fine involved. First time I've seen this guy. Moronic cyclist aside. I love his dog, seems super chill, well behaved and is probably an amazing road partner.

Not entirely. We have good farmers and bad farmers. There are problems that can't be avoided so we all accept that and get on with life. But when we have farmers who don't try to do what is right we all get pretty stroppy. If the truck was overloaded or not properly secured then there would be a reason for the police to be involved. Slippery patches on the road can be dangerous to other road users. So can loose animals on the road, or poorly maintained vehicles. If there is a reason to suspect carelessness someone should investigate.

The simple fact is, there was a spill, because the truck was overloaded. The driver is responsible for his load, no matter what, and if one drop hits the ground before it's delivered, a crime has been committed. The cyclist had every right to call the police. Other people who use the road have just as much rights as this moron driver, and they deserve to be able to use the road without some douchebag in a semi splashing manure everywhere. Remember, your rights stop when they start stepping on the rights of others. The driver has every right to haul manure, but he DEFINITELY doesn't have a right to spill it.

My in-laws in rural Georgia lived across the road from a field and every year the farmer down the road would haul chicken litter and spread it on the field. My Father-in-law had helped his dad build the house in the 1940s that he eventually inherited. They didn't like the smell but my Father-in-law had a really large garden too. That's why they call it rural.

Lol that cyclist must have been from the city nobody going to ride a manure spreaders ass with any sense. I live in a rural area in eastern Canada and I never would see someone act like that. That cop was cool though pretty much how they are around here. Stay safe and God bless.

mrwallen Same here. Use to having to go by the fields and sometimes having them go my house where I used to live (It's my mothers). General rule of thumb is you want to stay away. Mind you I haven't seen or heard about anyone as dumb as the cyclist in the video.

I agree. Here in Connectishit it's also illegal to be without lights after dark and to be without a horn or bell anytime. Most don't have either and some of them pay the price. And the cops are useless because they don't enforce any traffic laws to speak of, never mind the bicyclists.

now this makes me feel like the only bicycle rider who has a little common sense. (when I ride on the road, I stay on the side of the road to allow vehicles to pass by) I always try to stay aware of my surroundings and to stay at a steady speed
